  • RDM Advice Needed!!

    Hello Everyone

I have just got my Red Mage to level 11 now but I have been told by quite afew people that RDM don't get many pt invites till after level 41+ until then it takes 5-8 hours to get a party. Was wondering if some other Red Mages have problems getting partys? Also what kinda things do Red Mages do in partys? I know they do abit of everything. Also can I keep my WHM sub or do I need to change it later?
    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks everyone

WHM get picked over RDM until level 40. It's a fact. Parties can be very slow in coming, best advice, if there are multiple healer-type mages in your level range, is to form your own parties.

Additional advice: Level your Cooking skill and make lots of Melon Juice before and during the party. You'll turn some heads and make a really good impression.

relax, it's not always the case ^^. in fact I never had any problem getting PTs as RDM at any levels. And I had levelled 3 Rdm all to 70 in the past.

At low level, your killer spell is actually Cure 2. Before lv22, only 2 jobs are able to cast it which are Whm(11) and Rdm(14). This spell alone is more than enough reason to invite Rdm at lower level given that no PT can survive without it (except PL.)

From what I said above you probably got the point : Low level PT invite Rdm for our spell. More specificly, for our healing spells. Enfeeble spells are also a great addition.

As you get higher and higher, approaching 30, your role as an enfeebler will become more and more obvious. Your enfeeble skill will slowly get ahead of everyone else. At 32, Dispel gives a whole new reason to invite Rdm. And from that point on you'll be expected to be the main enfeebler too.

At 40 we got convert, 41 refresh. These 2 like you know will give the PT even more reason to invite us and introduce us a whole new role : MP machine for the entire group. It's not *the level* where you start getting invites. It's the level you get *even more* invites.

Just to let you know earlier what the PT wants. They want your spells. So, give the PT what they want and they will happily invite you. Over and over.

My experience supports Jei's. I suppose the white mage populations on our servers as opposed to Icemage's might make the difference.

Red mages in low levels are inferior as healers and nukers to our desaturated cousins, but are still entirely adequate in either role. So in the absence of a black mage or a white mage, you'll get called on to fill in. If there's plenty of both, well, from 10-14 you should at least get picked before thieves.

Unfortunately, at least on my server, nobody looks at a pt setup and gasps at a hole in the enfeebling department, so the pattern of getting called in as an ersatz blm or whm will probably continue until 32. Once you get Dispel, though, you become absoutely indispensable against many common exp mobs (beetles, crawlers, crabs, antica), so don't think you have to slug it out to 41 before you become really desirable as a pt member.

Actually, a lot of the time lately I have trouble completing a group because of lack of DDs... strange, but nonetheless true.

As someone who played RDM before either Dispel or Refresh, I can honestly say Gravity is being hugely overlooked in this topic
It's a surprisingly useful little spell, and will save the BLM's ass a number of times at low levels.

I don't remember having much trouble getting Lowbie PTs at all; in fact I remember pretty fast invites. Around LV60-LV70 is when they really started to slow down..

I totally agree. When I'm not on my rdm, I am shocked at how many rdm's do not use this spell. I am religious about using it.

When I lvled my current rdm on Midgard, I had no problems getting pts from 1-40. I was main healer 80% of the time. It just goes by who's lvling what at the time. Sometimes there are a lot of healers available and other times there are not. Just do a /sea all on whm's and rdm's near your lvl to gauge how long or short you may have to wait.

                    Re: RDM Advice Needed!!

Gravity is an excellent spell, but I can't remember the last time I looked at a party and thought "Man, this setup would be perfect if only we had a gravity-er." I don't imagine it weighs on most party leaders' minds so much as the absence of curaga, sleep, dispel, refresh, etc.

So partys won't be as fast as WHM obviously but I do want a decent invite rate hehe. I like BRD but I like RDM more. Can I keep my WHM sub tho?

Whm sub is a wonderful sub. Blm sub is more beneficial when they need a pseudo blm. I highly recommend having multipe subs for your rdm. You'll just love the versatility!

I believe you should have possible subs for your RDM readily avaliabe. As the above poster stated, flexibility is something that will make you look good to others

                            Re: RDM Advice Needed!!

Honestly, I've never had a problem finding parties for my RDM. As a matter-a-fact I've often had to "beat them off with a stick."

Before I went on my huge DRK leveling spree, I would farm with RDM. Didn't have any other real choice. I had to go /anon because I was getting so many invites.

I've made juices and used them for just about all my parties once I could really make them. I often partied with a BLM friend of mine, and I provided juice for her and I both.

I often played during a busy JPN time. And either my name was spread, or they just really adore their RDMs, because I got a lot of JPN parties.

I've noticed the same thing. I think more and more people are playing mage / tank roles to gaurentee then a party but its gone a but too far and now there seems to be a shortage of melee damage dealers. Ended up with a party a few days ago where the only melee was the PLD and the RDM (not me, I was on WHM).

Like alot of other people here I neder really has a problem finding parties at any level. At low levels you'll either be a backup healer to help out the WHM or asked to be the main healer, this won't really change later on but you will have to take your role as enfeebler alot more seriously then and you'll be invited for it as well as your refresh abilities later. Your WHM sub will definatly help when you need to stand in as main healer but BLM can be more beneficial in other situaltions due to the higher base MP and Aspire abilities which can come in really useful since you don't always get much time to rest in a party.
