noob needs help on picking a main for rdm

Yes im a newb and i was wondering if someone could tell me if there are any good advanced jobs, that would be a could main for a red mage?

Maybe BRD for fast cast, but you'd be giving up a lot in lieu of a white mage sub (i.e. curaga, -na, raise).

Since RDM is a "jack all of all trades" it doesnt really make a good sub. The jobs that would work with it the best some extent would be...BRD and BLM.. IMO...

The abilities you're giving up with a RDM sub as opposed to WHM or even BLM don't justify whatever it is RDM can give to a SMN. (Level 1 nukes? Cure II well past level 20?).

Being different, imo, is fine. To an extent. If you're having to strain yourself to keep up with the pt because your spells, well, suck, it's alright if you keep it up.

But I have yet to see a SMN / RDM who can be effective in a PT, unless that PT needs an avatar SMN.

The only job I think can really serve the best from a RDM subjob is BLM in the endgame because of Fast Cast, especially if one can get his hands on a Warlock's Mantle. SMN could do it, but it would be a disservice to his PT, and even moreso for a WHM. Usually I find more BLM/RDM past 60 than BLM/WHM, but I can't think of another job where this happens, especially advanced jobs.

As for BRD, the major advantage of RDM sub would be Fast Cast again, but losing -ra and -na spells, which is usually a main part of the BRD's job besides singing, would be kind of silly just to sing slightly faster.

Speaking of this... has anyone ever done the BC30 that drops the mantles? Before I go, I have a BLM friend who I'd like to help get the Warlock's Mantle (since none seem to even exist on Remora, and if they did, imagine the price... )

BLM/RDM is preferred against RDM-type weapons such as Infernal Weapon in Ro'Maeve and Aura Weapon in the Shrine of Ru'Avitau when there's no RDM in a PT (e.g., BLM + BRD + WHM).

BRD/RDM with Warlock's Mantle (-5% reduction in casting time and -1% ~ -2% in recasting time) may be nice when we have two or more RNGs in a PT and BRD has to sing Prelude on each of them.

As for the price of the Mantle, I believe it's about 300K to 350K here.

Unfortunately, the last I checked, the mantle simply hasn't been received or at least put up for sale on my server, thus I am wondering about that BC30 since that may be the only way to get it.

Anyone who's done one of the ones that drops the mantles and has some advice, it'd be appreciated...
