About the Melee'ing......I'm A 43 RDM / BLM , and i melee for not much damage (10-20), but my WS's do about 100-120 at 100%.... In Almost Al Of My Parties, I Make The SC's So I Put Myself in them.. It always Works good. I Like To Melee Too cuz i like the Sword... People always say the RDM AF1 Sword sucks but.... 10+ MP , 1+ INt , 1+ MND... on a weapon....i think thatz pretty friking good.

However, it's a no with a lil' prenup.

From 1-30'ish I support RDM melee. These levels, it's not much difference between accuracy or damage between a red mage and an ok equiped war.

Stay offa mandies tho, and the name of the job, red MAGE implies that we are in fact, mages. Our highest proficiency in a weapon being B further supports the Mage idea.

Your weapons are used when you solo/farm stuff, which we do well, although it takes quite some time.

Well its an optional thing, but the higher and higher you go, the more and more pointless and ineffective it gets no matter what you arm yourself with.

Your damage gets to be so pitiful compared to everyone in the party around you even with Enspells that its seriously of questionable worth.

While meleeing lower powered mobs in a party at least allows you to hit... you should see what the real melees are doing. I'm lucky if I can even do 100 damage total with all the casting done... due to refreshes and enfeebles plus the Magic Burst. I might get in about 5-10 swings total.

You'll see when you get there though.

Red Mage is indeed a mage. It would be a mistake to believe it was anything else.
