Hey guys, I havent been around since the site was reconstructed. Looks great, although I'm still trying to find my way around. Hope I can access it from work, or you wont be seeing many posts from me. That would be depressing, as I love this forum.

Anyway, on topic. Zempten.. I dont generally have problems with the Ahriman's but I was also 74 every time I went to farm there, meaning the lvl 5 petrify didnt affect me. For what it's worth, the only time I ever died there was to an Ahriman that cast flood when I was low on HP, and I forgot Stoneskin was down, and just cast Barwater. It wasn't too effective, and flood still did in the ballpark of 550 dmg, killing me. Besides that, I came close to dying to an Arch Demon once because of, you guessed it, Bio 3. My most hated spell in the game.

I start my Ahriman fights by Paralyze, Slow, then Dia 2. I just wack away at them for a min till they are dead. They have low defence and go down fast. Their only annoying moves are mind break (max mp down) Eyes on me (usually takes off stoneskin and 200+ hp) and their sleep spells. I'm sure lvl 5 petrify will soon be a pain in my side, but I have not been back to Zvahl since reaching 75.

My current farming equips look like this...

Joyeuse, Genbu Shield, Phantom Tathlum
Optical Hat, Spirit Torque, 2x Dodge
Narasimha's Vest, Ogre Gloves, 2x Ruby Rings
Amemet +1, Warwolf belt, Warlocks Tights, Dance Shoes.

This gives +24 STR and +41 evasion. I dont bother with equip swap macros, although my fights may be more efficient if I did. If I'm farming, I want to do so with as much space as possible. Besides, when I eat kabobs and cast dia 2 I clear the mobs with lots of spare time. I usually can rest for 3-4 mins.

The last time I was there I left with almost 500k worth of loot in 3.5 hours.

1 stack demon horns (300k)
5 orc piercers
3 shell busters
mages ballad 2 from coffer, plus lots of other junk.

last week I got 1 ballad everyday. Then after that, 15 money from coffers straight. Really annoying

Well for me, I think the problem was I was so out of shape from not solo so my bearings were all wrong. I'm doing better now ^^ I start using equip swaps for my Stoneskin and Phalax and I still have like 20 spots left.

What's really strange is I still haven't seen ANY Ahriman Wings ; ;

how do you guys search for coffers? everytime i get a key - i just toss it cuz i can never find the freak'n thing (it might just be the number of people in the area from my server)

Well usually there isn't alot of people when I go farming there. I think it might have been just too crowded

I don't understand why the Emp Hairpin is greater then the Optical Hat, is it the +3 to DEX and AGI?

Last question. . . how do you guys feel the Fellowship Quest is going to affect how we farm here?

Yes, that's the reason at least I think itäs better in some situations. When you have a high accuracy already (as these Demons are EP) there's no real need for the extra 10 from the Optical Hat. Boosting Agi for evasion/parry/shield and Dex for Crits (and I think, lower chance of crits from the monster?) is pretty neat.

However, in the video Apple Pie is using a Ogre Mask, I'm pretty sure of that.

As for the Npc-helper.....I don't know. It would be pretty good I guess but not necessary A better use for them would be if you're farming Cactuars.


A side note: Gman, we have almost exactly the same equip for this. I bring gear to swap in for casting spells though, mostly because I have no space in my moghouse. As an effect of this though, my Stoneskin is at full potential and my Savage Blades get a little extra boost (Promise Badge and so on).

I use:

Joyeuse, Genbu's, Lightning Bow,
Ogre Mask/Emperor Hairpin, Spike Necklace/Spirit Torque, Dodge + Suppanomimi,
Narashima's Vest, Ogre Gloves, 2x Ruby Rings,
Forager's Mantle, Warwolf Belt, Warlock's Tights, Dance Shoes

I guess that this is where you end up when going for +att/str as a Rdm whithout spending too much gil

Also, don't worry about the Ahrimans petrify attack. It's more annoying than dangerous. I haven't died to it yet at least, something that has made me a bit careless so I tend to forget to cast Barpetrify. Not sure how good it really is here though because the effect doesn't last that long even without it.

hmm demon horn's flooding the AH. Their main use are to make demon arrow heads aren't they? With the ranger nerf the demand for arrows sure to drop...

not sure what will happen if i have my NPC running after me and i jump into the pits in ZV... hmm will it run all over the place and aggro everything?

Thanks for the explanation Swingfly.

Jei makes a good point with the ranged attack nerf but I think Demon Horns are also used for crafting skill up so perhaps it'll still live on. However I too have noticed a flood of Demon Horns into the market . . . maybe people are just panicing and just selling them asap before anything bad will happen.

what a shame.. i almost died by the easy blm demons ; ;

it started by sleepga me, i got rid of stoneskin to wake myself up but it started casting Flare.
So I silenced it, and casted stoneskin.
But, the demon's silence wore off while it's still casting, so 2 seconds later the flare hit me for 660 damage. (I had 720 MAX HP)
I got 9 HP left, ran away in panic.
And luckily, because it's no longer silenced, it stood where it was instead of following me... so i got time to cure and recast my stoneskin....

First time in Zvahl since the update, and I could swear things have actually gotten stronger. I was having a lot of issues with less evades and stoneskin was disappearing much quicker than when I started here at 68. But, at the same time I'm seeing a lot more items dropping per kill, and only had one mob out of twenty drop nothing at all.

Standard gear before update:
Joyeuse, Genbu, Fortune Egg
Evasion Torque, Suppanomimi, Minuet Earring
Vermillion Cloak, Ogre Gloves, Sun Ring*2
Amemet, Warwolf, Warlock's Tights, Ogre Ledelsens

But just now when I tried I had to switch out Vermillion for Hairpin+Harness, Minuet Earring for Elusive and Ledelsens for AF it still seemed like the demons had much higher Defense and Accuracy than they ever did before update. Was it just the room, (Southeast, Orc drop, lots of smns and sams usually so I don't normally do it), am I just crazy, bad string of luck, or has anyone else noticed this too?

On a positive note, it definitely kept me awake longer and the xp changes to EP mobs made a nice little sidebonus.

I haven't been there since the update but if the demons are stronger now it will definately be more fun

Jei, those are the moments we live for I wish my deaths were as spectacular as that (even though you made it in this case), when I die it's usually because I start talking to someone in /tell and then lose concentration. Bio III and out of mp -> convert, get a tell and start talking instead of curing myself......stoneskin drops.....sadly that's happened more than once.

How much is Demon Horns on people's servers now? Theyre up to 40k per as individuals and 500k/12 on Midgardsmor.

sadly, yesterday i checked the price on phoenix - single horns are 20-25k (used to be 35)
but stacks of horns are at 470k... (they actually increased from 450k)

horn price on Titan varies between 20-30K. I always sell mine at 25k. Last night, my 8 horns all sold out at the same price. Hope it stays this way

Ran through Zvahl again today to test whether it changed or not, mobs went back to extremely easy and low drop rates. Maybe just a weird fluke or time of week/moon cycle (Full 90%, Water, Dark weather).

Midgardsormr's horns seem a bit flakey right now, still 38-40k but feels like they'll be dropping soon since the demand died out. The amount of people farming seems to have dipped as well, before update I was pretty used to seeing atleast 1-2 nins and 1-2 rdm/nin, rdm/blm anytime I decided to go out; but, yesterday and today I haven't seen anyone outside of coffer key parties.
