  • Gman I would look at maximizing your str and mnd for your WS. I actually concentrate more on str and it seems to work for me quite well. When I was using Gold Sword +1 or Analice I was only getting 300 ish with Savage Blade and maybe 500 when stacked with Sneak Attack. Now that I use the Martial analice I get 500 at 100tp (150 with bonuses) And 7-900 with Sneak Attack.

I have not gone through the trouble of getting Joyeuse yet but I have no trouble killing all 4 demons and getting a few ticks in before the eye spawns with the analice. I also make a point to save tp at the end of battle and start the next with a sneak attack ws. The demons being a sight mob this is really no trouble and basically taking a quarter of their life in one shot really helps bring my kill times down.

Edit: forgot to mention that mnd and str are the multipliers for savage.

Also my attack is 399 with meat chiefkabobs and we are the same level, you may need to check for some different equips to maximize that.

    • I'm having no trouble killing before the next Ahriman pops, unless one of the Arch demons give me lots of trouble (which can happen if I get unlucky). I generally dont Dia 2 Arch demons, since if an emergency happens, I wouldnt be able to sleep them. Other than that, Joyeuse comes as advertized. With the ability to double attack on 50% of my turns, the mobs go down fairly fast. Usually I take the mage-types down before phalanx/haste/enspell wears out. The melee types take me a bit longer, and i usually need to recast those spells near the end of the battle.

Overall I guess I just need to beef up my STR and ATT stats. My average hits on these seem to be about 45-55 DMG (+enspell), and maybe that's too low. The fact that I have Joyeuse probably hides how weak I really am. I already discussed my gear earlier, and the changes I've made are:

      Earrings: 2x Dodge purchased
      Waist: Swordbelt +1 purchased
Hands: Carapice Gauntlets purchased (HQ ones have not been up for sale)

I eat regular Meat mithkabobs. Chiefs are too expensive to bother with for the extra small attack boost.

Last night by mistake I went to Zvahl without food, just forgot to buy it. I noticed my dmg being less, but still got the final demon killed with about 10 secs to spare before eye popped. Not bad, but of course I had to rest first :/

      • my gear isn't exactly where i want it.

        i use:

        joyeuse
        genbu shield
        opti hat
        spike neck
        narasima's vest
        amemit mantle
        warwolf belt
        dusk trousers
        duelist's boots
        ruby ring x 2
        suppanomimi
        dodge earring

        i have 63 str +31

        i have 1139 hp and 547 mp

394 attack and 340ish def with protect IV.

avg hits are like 70-90. i crit for 130. (i think, been a couple weeks since i was there)

i always posion II the mobs and cast dia II on the blm, eye, and smn mobs. and bio II on the drk and sam ones.

        • Wow your strength kills mine. I think mine is something like 55+11. Just bought 2 new pieces of gear last night. Ogre Mask and Dance shoes.

Last night I farmed for a couple hours with no food. I had logged out there after farming for about an hour the night before. Damage was 36-65, critical for about 80-100. Damn I feel weak. My attack was about 311. My take for the time I was there wasnt bad though.

          3x demon horns @ 25k each = 75k
          1x ahriman wing @ 25k each = 25k
          4x shellbuster @ 4k each = 16k
          1x orc piercer @ 8.3k each = 8.3k
          1x Ice spirit pact @5k each = 5k
          2x Ahriman tears @1k each = 2k
2x ahriman lens (not worth much)
          2x stack dark crystals @5k each = 10k
Probably 3k in gil drops from demons
          ---------------------------------------------------
Total gil for maybe 3 hours = 145k

The drops were very bad during certain stretches too. I went through 2 full rooms of mobs without getting a single drop at one point. (except a few dark crystals) So I'm confident it can be much better. With the prices of demon horns and ahriman wings being 10k more than when apple pie farmed here, I should be making more/hour than he was, but I'm making the same. Maybe they adjusted the drop rates, or maybe my luck was just bad.

          • Too bad your alchemy is not in the fourties Gman you could turn those Ahriman Lens into prism powders at half the cost. I sometimes just farm the morbid eyes upstairs just for that and occasionally get a whole stack from one synth.

            • Hehe, I was wishing the same thing. Actually, I am leveling Alchemy, so maybe when I get to the appropriate range, I can actually skill up when Ahrimans drop lenses. 1x lens, 2x glass fibre, 1x light crystal, correct?

                • Actually it is 1 lense, 2 glass fibers and a light crystal but the minimum yield is 8 so it is a nice synth.

                  • That's impressive, lazner...

Can I ask you a few questions? 1st, how do you manage to get +31 STR with that gear? I count +20 unless the Suppanomimi, Duelists Boots and dusk trousers have STR + bonuses.

                    Rubyx2 +8, Spike +3, narasimha +3, Amemet +1, Warwolf +5 = +20

Can I also ask if you sub THF, and what food you eat? I must admit I was a bit doubtful that you were hitting for as high as you said, but now that I see screenshots proving it, I need to know HOW lol. Also, what gloves do you wear? You didnt list them before.

It appears to me that a STR build may be more effective than an Attack build for this, or maybe a nice balance of both. *Sigh* back to the AH...

                      • Heh, I wish I hit as hard as you lazner. Even though it doesn't really matter here because of number of mobs and respawn time it'd be nice in other situations Maybe it's time to sell my Dance Shoes and Emperor's Hairpin and get ogre's instead.

                        • Ok, went back again last night, and if not for a stupid, stupid move where I allowed an Ahriman to cast flood on me, it would have been a very successful trip. It started casting flood, and I forgot my stoneskin was down. I casted barwater and kept wacking away thinking my swings would interrupt like they usually do... nope... flood did 522 dmg. I had to HP, and lost 2400 exp

For the damage, well I used a Spike Necklace and meat kabobs, so my STR was 55+15. Seemed to help. I think my attack was 372 with latent from gloves activated. There seemed to be a big improvement in damage for some reason. I used Dia 2 when I could, and against the weaker Demons, my attacks were like 60-85 dmg, 100-110 crit. The stronger ones, like a level 66 Blood demon, my attacks were understandably lower, doing 40-60 dmg. I was very impressed with savage blade though... all I can say is that STR must be a huge modifier, since it was doing 240-300 dmg pretty consistently.

Overall, it was still ok... I managed to get 2 wings and 3 horns, plus some other junk in about 3 hours. Maybe 150k or so, plus 4 of each seal type (Kindred and Beastmen).

                          • i think attack was the way to go before they nerfed meat miths. it could still be the way to go if you paid for $$$ foods, but since im farming a perfer cheap 30 min foods.

im also thinking about selling my dusk trousers and saving up for dusk gloves and boots for the 5% haste, that would be pretty sweet. and if i get some time ill camp ose for assault jerkin, that +18 attack would be nice to play around with. also thinking about changing out opti hat for something with more defense and attack and then getting an evasion torque.

but like swingfly said im already killing them all within the 16 min. i don't think id ever get to the point of hopping rooms would efficient.

or maybe moving on to the dc demons in the inner rooms. some of them drop flare =)

                            • Even though I've had lots of time between spawns, I've never tried to pull one of the demons on the bottom floor. I wonder where it would run if I tried....I'll have to find out next time Not that it seems as if they drop anything good but at least one of them drops Sands of Silence and I still haven't done the Opo-opo quest.

For the demons in the inner rooms I'm not really sure how I would kill them all between spawns. They hit so hard that it wasn't funny anymore I was considering trying them but using food with +def instead but I have a feeling that it would be pure luck if I got all of them between spawn. Maybe if I subbed Drk (or even better, had War leveled) I could do it if I spent yet another couple of million on my gear but I'm not so sure it would be worthwhile then.

Anyway, it seems as if I need to play around with gear a bit more to find a good mix of +att, +str and other stats. I'm kind of interested in whether a Swordbelt +1 or a Warwolf Belt is better. Also, I can pretty easily add 20-25 attack and 9 str to what I have now (+32-37 attack and +4 str if I go with Swordbelt) so I'll try with that next time I'm farming.

I'm kinda stuck on the same decision. RDM needs all the atk we can get, but seriously +5STR/DEX/VIT is just toooo nice to give up for +12 atk. That belt is just too awesome.
