My thf is only 28 but I bring bat earrings (+15 evade when blind) and ahriman/demons like to blind me very often. much more helpful than dodge earing IMO.

anyway, ahriman's ancients are easy to dodge. just cast blink when you see them starting ancients ^^ more than enough time for our blinks.
I've spent a decent amount of time here, and never had petrify last long enough where I was put in a "Omg petrify screwed me" situation. In fact, I've never hit the "Shoot, that was close" situation either XD. So I don't think it's quite as dangerous as some of you make it out to be. Worst case he nails you down to red HP, then petrify wears off and you can quickly recover with a cure (unless you came into the fight without a lot of MP). I suppose it would take really bad luck to get killed off by it, but as long as you don't lose your focus, any red mage should be okay.

Bat earrings are nice, but I don't seem to get blinded much. I still would recommend bring Dodge earrings due to this.

I'm not saying I'm dying from it. I'm just saying it's annoying. I prefer the demon guys more ^^

Apple Pie just posted a video showing his farming at centre high platform of Castle Zvahl at the following link:

ooo cool ^^ downloading now very interesting. The drops look identical except firaga but sure will be much more fun there.

          edit
watched the movie. Interesting, his melee gear doesn't have the AF hat on. I'm guessing he uses hairpin for the evasion :O?

En damage at 17 so he uses fencer's ring.

perfect tracking of cast time. Recast exactly when then spells wear off. very impressive.

once the ice weather was over he edit his en macro to en-fire too.

          why icespike tho?

Also, no DoTs so he can sleep the demons when stoneskin/blink wears off.

He hits the higher lvl demons for about as much as I hit the weaker ones. Wonder if he eats attack food, because he takes very little damage when hit as well.

I'll have to try out and see if i can survive o.O might be better to wait till 75 tho.

Thx for your insight, Jei, ^^)b, especially for the part on changing en-spells O.O);; .

You may note that I asked Apple Pie on the food and evasion gears he had on for the fights as I do notice he evaded the attack quite often.

Wat I suspect the reason for ice-spikes is the add-on paralyze effect it has on the mob.

I wonder if his sub is /thf

his sub is thf. on the first fight, he slept the ahriman and opens with a SA.

I'm pretty sure the reason for using Ice Spikes is that you can save some mp by not having to cast/recast Paralyze. Furthermore, none of the Spike-spells deals a significant amount of damage, especially against Demons and such who are resistant to magic. The only time I consider using Blaze Spikes is when fighting a Mnk-type monster that will hit me a lot. In these cases the damage will add up nicely.

As for the lack of AF-hat, I think Grendal used Ogre Mask on the other Demons and I would guess that he does that here too. I couldn't see properly. He might have switched to the Hairpin though because he did evade quite a bit and when you have good accuracy as it is, the Hairpin is superior to the Optical Hat.

I haven't been to Castle Zvahl in a long time now but this really made me want to go there again. Last time I tried the tougher demons I couldn't kill them fast enough before respawn and used too much mp trying to cure myself when Stoneskin dropped. That time I used Bio II though, sleeping to recast Stoneskin seems like a much better way to do it.

grab my hairpin from mule. I'll compare it out with ogre mask tonight.

I think last time someone asked it that the reply was "Its better than nothing". Or something like that. The additional Paralyse effect can be usefull aswell although casting that sperate and using shock spike for the stun effect might have been a better idea.

So I tried the tough demons last night. They hit me much more often >.> The blm and smn were easy but the sam (was kinda surprised seeing one with G axe drop sam textimony ) and the Drk, they hit me very often and very hard (280 crit from sam, ouch.) I had to sleep them 4-5 times per battle to renew skin/blink. Also with meat kabob+1 Im only hitting the Drk for 35ish.

I had total of +31 evasion btw... can dodge a lot of the weaker ones but not the tough ones : /

That's exactly my experience Jei. It's much harder but after quite some time farming the weaker demons they're getting so easy that I tend to lose my focus. The ones in the center room had me on my toes all the time. Even though I had poor luck with drops so far from two separate runs there it's a lot more fun

Hmm, well… I know this was old, but in accordance to Sepukku's reply... my mentor soloed Marquis Allocen the other day. He's one of the 21-24 hour pop NMs that are kinda near the farming area. She was 75RDM/37THF, I guess I overestimated them! The fight took around 13 minutes, and she had a pretty rough time because he kept bashing her at the wrong times (Double Attack kicked in twice in a row while she was casting Stoneskin), and she actually died to his 2hr because she was not quite ready (Convert wasn't up). But she had her Reraise Hairpin so she came back up and took him down. You need to watch for their special abilities, they can hit quite hard. She's going to hunt down the DRK now, so maybe I can ask her for parsed results.

Anyways... this brings up some more favors for RDMs that farm here, because some of these guys drop nice items (Absorb-DEX, Corsair's Knife just to name a few). They spawn at G-7, G-8, H-7, H-8; it'll mess up your 16-min repop pattern but all in all it's not so bad if you happen to know the ToD and can get some of these nice items!

If memory serves me correctly, those 21-24 nms are a cakewalk using the good ol sleep > nuke method.

I don't understand why the Emp Hairpin is greater then the Optical Hat, is it the +3 to DEX and AGI?

Maybe Apple Pie is eating other food? Or perhaps try other food? ^^

Maybe it's just a observation, but maybe the weaker demons are become easier to you because your shield and parry skill is going up? ^^

Last question. . . how do you guys feel the Fellowship Quest is going to affect how we farm here?

optical hat looks uglier. I hate that hat model.

I'm thinking we might be able to get ninja job for our NPC and have it be our tank. Now we can focus on casting/attacks? ;D
