I dont think you'll be able to skill too long off the onzozo ones. They are DC to level 65 and they hit hard. I think they took off my stoneskin in 2-3 hits when I tried fighting one normally. I actually had to zone because I was running out of MP just keeping myself alive. Maybe I did something wrong, but I wouldnt reccomend skilling archery on these. I also got a scare when I got hit with a Tornado too... even though it did 0 dmg, it still gave me a scare, as AM always does.

I actually farm these quite a bit without to much trouble. I will have to pay a lot more attention while skilling, due to ancient magic and them wearing stoneskin more often but I think it will be doable.

I will use aspir as often as possible and when I have 300tp I will draw my trusty hornetneedle and unleash energy drain to deplete their mp as quickly as possible.

I am now level 70 and was farming them at 67 with no trouble, I will let you know how successful I am.

If it is not doable I will probably do crabs in Kuftal or Boyahda.

Your profile said 65, so I was going by that ^^

I was just letting you know i had trouble at that level, so I thought you might too. At 70 you shouldnt have much problem I would think.

Yea I haven't updated my profile in a while.

Well I was able to easily get from 137 - 147 on a single water elemental in Yhoator Jungle, though I ran out of arrows and had to kill it the old fashion way when my 800 arrows were depleted.

Next I went to Onzozo. the beginning of this fight was fairly hairy the air elemental that spawns in the entrance was able to silence me and got me down to 200 hp before I became unsilenced. I will be making some echo drops to take with me next time.

These elementals must have around 2500 mp I aspired it maybe 10 times and energy drained it at least 10 times and it cast tornado on me 4 times and aeroga II 4 or 5 times plus used buffs and silence and blink many times before I depleted it's mp.

Once this guy was on empty I just went to town with my trusty bow and dropped 1000 arrows into him and was able to get from 147 to 161 before I ran out of arrows with no sign of the skill slowing down.

After 1000 arrows he still was not even half dead so I will probably bring 2000 with me and shoot till the skill stops next time I work on it.

            Yesterday:
198 Arrows (2 stacks) At Korrokola Tunnel while waiting for LS to get online to decide what we were gonna do for the day (Was online at 6am-11pm cause was home sick):

            RDM-55/NIN-12
            -No Food
            -2 Bone Ring+1's
            -No other +RACC food
            198 Iron Arrows
            +13.2 Skill On Korrokola's Worms

+0.1 skill for every 1.5 arrows. Id say thats pretty good. I started with Archery Skill at 39.0 by the way. (Its my level 13 RNG's archery skill cap).

            Windurst Rank 10. ZM14. CoP M5-2.
RDM->62 (AF Completed), MNK->62 (AF Completed).

Interesting topic. I'm not curious to level my archery skill as well.

So, the recommendation is to use the cheapest arrows to prolong the fight. What are good arrows for me to start with? Do I start with weak worms or should I just go on to tougher foes?

I'm RDM75 and my current Archery level is 0. I believe I have a Speed Bow in storage. Thanks.

Id suggest using the level 1,7, or 14 Arrows (Wooden, Stone, Bone, or Iron) for the first 65 levels. Then for the last ten when you start getting into the nitty gritty to cap it for a 75, Id switch to something with +RACC like Scorpion Arrows or maybe Demon Arrows.

And yes you cant go for tougher stuff. You have to start out on the most basic of basic mobs, like the stuff in Ronfaure, Sarutabaruta, and Gustaberg.

Well I was able to get to 175 on the wind elementals in onzozo, though the skill gain had dropped somewhat I believe that I will still be able to use them for another 10 levels or so.

Sidewinder rocks!!!! All of the too weak mobs in low level zones are quivering at the sound of my bow string snapping. Even with a level 1 ranger sub I am hitting for 700-1000.

I have a scheduled LS skill up saturday I am not sure where I will post to let everyone know how it goes.

I think today I will be leveling ranger though, this subjob is too much fun.

Tomoh. I personally used wooden arrows for all of my skilling I figure you can buy 10 times as many as an arrow with +racc for the same price. You will definately have to choose mobs whose level coincides with your bow skill.

I also picked up some scorpion rings which give -7 acc and +7 racc for 1000 a piece and a mermans gorget for another +5 racc I am sure these helped me quite a bit.

What? No spectacles, Peacock charm and fugly Optical hat? :p

I agree, since youre not going to be meleeing the targets, best thing to do is spend a few thousand on - acc, + ra acc gears so most of your arrows connect. Never thought of doing that myself, thx for the idea.

I've used Shortbow +1 (7K in AH) for racc +3 and Beetle Arrows for racc +5.

Tomoh, if you have enough time, I recommend you level your RNG to LV30 first for Accuracy Bonus II, Barrage and Sharpshot.

Accuracy bonus II gives you both accuracy (+22) and ranged accuracy bonus. Barrage gives you chances to skill-up multiple times (up to 4 times for us) in one shot every 5 minutes (check the picture attached). Sharpshot increases your racc a lot for 1 minute.

                      > You will definately have to choose mobs whose level coincides with your bow skill.

As for mobs you ask for help :p, what Drow II suggested is definitely correct but if you're willing to spend some money, you can take stronger mobs. On the picture attached, I asked Mr. Orcish Predator (LV52 - LV57) at Monastic Cavern for help although my archery skill was only 112, that was LV41 cap but I didn't have any problem.

After it reached 151 (LV51 cap), I went to my favorite castle with my friends to ask some ahrimans and demons for help. Well, they trained my archery and gave me some money, too :spin: After it reached 183 (LV60 cap), I organized skill-up PT to the sky for Light Elementals and it was finally capped (= 210) the other day. Only four days (= about 8 hours) from 98 -> 210.

All you need is racc+ gears, /RNG30+ and Sushi. By the way, it depends on nations controlling regions but you may want to consider borrowing these gears from Jeuno AH.

                      Junior Musketeer's Tuck+1 / +2 (racc+4 / +5)
                      Bastokan Greaves (racc +3)
                      Republic Greaves (racc +4)

I never thought a RDM could even consider Archery being as i was under that impression since we dont even get to use Longbows But using Sidewinder in a 60cap Ballista!!?!?

Well now, Its already unlikely that I will be taken out, now i just made myself a damage dealer =P

Grendal-dono, make sure to tell me what side you'll be on so I can make sure to steer clear of you ^^

                          Neither did I

It seems to me that some racc+ foods, especially Sushi, have made some drastic changes. I hope S-E won't do anything on them in the future.

Well, I'll attend to uncapped match tonight, probably Meriphataud only because our LS is planning to do Garison quest for Mighty Bow. Anyway, if RDM archery works again there, that must be cool, no need to be defensive anymore.

Thank you all for the great info. I went from 0 to 75 today. It dawned on me that I needed to level RNG to be able to use WS ><

RDM/RNG would be cool, but not as useful as /DRK. So far, I have 41WHM, 41SMN and 40BLM to go along w/ my RDM75. Not sure if I'm up to leveling another job from start.

Heh, yeah I was in King RT today skilling up, and as of posting time i got from 0 to 47 Archery. If you start this at a high level, dont go the RNG way and hunt Worms. Personally, I compare my archery level to the lvl it would be if i had RNG with exact skill. Then I fight mobe 6-9 levels above me.

Best mob i found for skilling up on would be anything that is strong to piercing, I.E. Bones. Lvl 18 for a skill of lvl 14 (or 15, cant look at my chart now) So every hit gave me at least 0.1 skill up.

I talked a quick sec to Grendal and It makes sense WHY we hunt worms, like RNG. RNG hunt worms because they dont move, giving them the ability to attack, pull back and repeat. Also, this tactic works for any class able to shoot post-24 when they have access to Utsusemi from NIN sub.

He told me that RDM can silence worms, hence why we dont need a NIN sub. So with this in mind, I think it'll be fairly easy to skillup against mobs DC-EM, provided we have the right gear.

Just a summary of my gear (Oh, its kinda suprising what RDMs have access to in terms of RAAC, and stuff. Almost like they want us to be the outright cheesiest class >.>)

                                RDM lvl 44 / RNG 9
                                Body - Iron Musketeer's Gambison - RAAC 3 RAAT 3
                                Hands - Windurstian Gloves - RAAT 5
                                Legs
Feet - Bastokan Greives - (when nation controls area) RAAC 5
                                R.Ear - Beater's Earring - LE (with RNG sub) RAAC 3
                                R.Ring - Horn Ring +1 - RAAC 5
L.Ring - Marksman's Ring - (stats escape me right now)
                                Range - Self Bow +1 - RAAC 5
                                Ammo - Fang/Beetle Arrow RAAC 5

I'll edit it later if i remember what i missed or if any info is wrong, but i use this gear and Squid Sushi when i skill up. I'm level 85 right now, so it must be working so far ^^
