What's RDM like pre-30? Will it be busy-work like I hear it is post-41? I don't plan on playing RDM too far past 30. I want to sub it as a BRD because I can't stand to play WHM, too much stress. I really don't want an incredibly busy job, so...umm, yeah. :D

Rdm pre 30 plays near identical to whm. Both are semidecent at melee but are best used as main healer.
If you don't like whm, you will absolutly hate brd. On top of that brd/rdm misses out on a key factor of what bards do, handle status effects like poison, silence, etc. You head out with a blm/whm, rdm/blm, brd/rdm back line, look who gets stuck handling status effect. On top of this, brds have very limited mp, so they get the most out of it by spamming curagas since they have low hate, but /rdm can't do it.

Also, I hear BRD/RDM isn't that bad. In fact, I hear it's the 2nd best next to /WHM. And considering I don't want to play WHM, I'll just give some backup nukes or heal between chains. Also, you really don't want to fight mobs with tons of status effects w/o a WHM. XD So, that situation wouldn't come up very often, although, it is a good point.

BRD isn't a laid back job, the first portion of the battle your runing around and getting people to stand where they need to be in order to cast songs, with WHM you basically press cure every few seconds, standing still (mostly).
Once you get regen (19..or 21..bad memory) you basically cast Regen, and then cure when HP starts hitting yellow. You will get virtually no complaints as a whm if you keep everyones HP white or near white, and Regen makes that really easy.
BRDs wont nuke..but WHM can MB on Light, Transfixion, or Fusion skillchains with Divine Magic or Cures, =D...yeah I really suggest you give WHM a try. There is no knowledge without experience.

Just an fyi, but you have a lot more potential to be blamed for a death as brd than whm. It's the bards duty to handle all adds and sleeps, if they mess that up (or fail to do it at all) and it results in a wipe out, the brd is the one catching the blame rather than the whm. 10-30 as whm is really quite easy, just rest and cure. People will be so happy just to have a whm at those lvls that they will rarely get upset over the occasional death.
The reason I say brd/whm would be handling the status effects is because they are standing most of the fight. So either the whm has to stand up and miss out on 40-80 mp from resting to cure a status effect, or you can cure it since you are already standing. Also, some mobs like to do aoe status effects, so having more than just the whm to handle it is better (tigers in kuftal do aoe paralyze, so having the 3 back line mages cast a paralyna makes things much easier).
You will also find as a brd, your favorite main healer is going to be rdm instead of whm because the rdm will refresh the pld and relieve you of the need to worry about hitting him with ballad during fights (biggest pain of being a brd). Thus, it won't be too uncommon for you to be in charge of curing status effects. And from 37+, almost everything you exp on will do some kind of status effect (except crabs until you get erase at 64brd/32whm).

Yeah, that's kind of what I was getting at. They have a single and aoe sleep that don't cost mp and don't have to worry about being main healer during links/adds like a rdm would. Also, 51+ with light staff, brd sleeps feel the most reliable. Gravity is a great help during adds as well, but too few rdms take advantage of it.

*cough* its a wind staff that enhances Sleep not a Dark and it doesnt really matter if you enfeebling is maxed a Bard is the best at keeping things under control when and i quote someone(forgot the name) "when shit hits the fan" the only thing that can really go wrong is when ppl start to panic about then dieing just keep calm and let the bard handle it, i am sure if a bard can handle a bunch of tiny mandragoras in BCNM they can handle 1 extra mob plus on the weird side i would assume a LV 75 RDM would the elements to there own spells.People look at the world and think why, i look at the world and think why not.

Last time I cast sleep it was Black not Green. Did they change this in one of the many recent patches? There is no knowledge without experience.

Hey I was curious if the wind staff effected my sleep spells, I have all the elemental staves and when i was going through my spells I noticed that sleep was wind, would wind staff have an effect on sleep resists or length or is it only for nukes?
now either something changed or 3 ppl are extremely confusedPeople look at the world and think why, i look at the world and think why not.
