  • Skillup Music!

So I have two very unrelated questions that I hope I can get answers to ^_^

    1. What do RDM who don't melee in exp partys do to skill up their sword/dagger skills up to the cap? I'd rather not join the random coffer partys for skillups.. unless there's no other choice.

Basically, I find that if I melee in an exp party my actual Mage duties suffer for it due to melee distractions and what not. I'd like to keep my weapon skills capped, but it's difficult and since I'm in a static pt, I want to do my best without hindering the pt... anyways, suggestions would be appriciated. Maybe I'll start seeing just how difficult of mobs I can solo ( Apple Pie).

    And #2.
I've been wishing I had more techo/rave type music to listen to, but my knowledge of these type of bands is seriously limited.. I really liked the song Apple Pie put to his M5-1 video.. if perhaps some of you who are interested in similar music would mind giving me some suggestions of who to look for I would be a happy Red Mage. ^_^

    Thank you,

    1) Stoneskin + Phalanx is a powerful combination. If you just interested in skilling up and not the rate at how fast you kill monsters, eat some defense type food: fish mithakabobs come to my mind atm

    2) Evens will be enough to skill up on for you, you want to actually be able to hit these mobs if you haen't been keeping up on your combat skills, if it's practically capped you can attempt toughs and very toughs as well. Just remeber Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Aquaveil is important. If anything goes wrong sleep the mob or chainspell + escape

I soloed the Crawler Hunters (scorpions) in Crawler's Nest to 200 at 59 and then I soloed crabs in Kuftal Tunnel at 60. Crabs are great because they constantly give us some extra MP (thank Aspir for that one).

yeah, i agree with Zem on that one. For me, I found a new love for Daggers (mainly because while tossing rendom crap in Pally, i was trying to drop a shell shield and dropped my Small Sword ;_ and the Decurion Dagger is very fun to use. Imagine, running through Konschat with a VASTLY underleveled dagger (my lvl 7 THF has it capped >.> ) and seeing "##### looks to weak to be worthwhile. It seems to have high defense" or "##### seems to be easy prey. It has low evasion, but high defense"

Wierd stuff. anyway, If only I could solo in Pallborough without getting linked... Aw, it matters not, just do whatever has the most fun. I think there was a chart that shows where you can skill up. >.>

Aw, i cant find it, and i have a headache. I'll post it later, or maybe someone else knows what i'm refering to?

personally, i prefer to put on some children of bodom or slayer while i butcher things. but that's just me. ^^

if you're looking to skill up anything below 80, head to qufim and kill acrophies and giants. i got clubs and daggers to 80+ in like 2 hours that way. i think batallia would be a good spot to go to after that, or maybe yuhtunga.

This is what I remember doing to skill up sword/dagger, although I dont remember the recomended lvl for taking these things on solo.

1-90 Qufim - Dancing weapons, best place is just to hang around the spine thats just outside the tower or kill the ones in the tunnel.

90-150 Crawlers Nest - Lizards, ones in the back rooms. laybrinth lizards?

              150-210 Kuffal - Robber Crabs

210+* Boyhoda Tree - Steelshells (crabs) Best place for when your solo or just with one other person is outside the zone for the cloister of stroms behind the waterfall.
Tu'lia is also an option if your lucky enough to have access.

*not sure how high the crabs will take you here I stopped at 240

I was soloing Knight Crawlers and Crawler Hunters, Even Match and Tough in CN the other night for sword skillups past 180. I think I hit 183 before my HP dropped a bit too low and the Crawler Poison Breathed me for 280 dmg and I died. Not sure how high these mobs would take me. Probably around 200? They con the same.. maybe a little bit lower.. than robber crabs.

Thanks for the music suggestions, btw. ^_^

I'm having an incredibly difficult time in boyahda tree. I'm lvl 73 Hume RDM now with sword at 232, I only want to get to 240 and can't find a PT for the life of me. Skilling in xp pt's isnt an option, the gap between my skill and the melee's is too great and I cant even hit the IT mobs. When I go to the Tree and fight crabs it normally goes something like this...

-Icesharc buffs, stoneskin, phalanx, shock spikes, haste, refresh, protect, shell.
-Icesharc debuffs, paralyze, blind, slow (didnt notice much dmg reduce with bio so i dont use it)
-After 3 or 4 hits stoneskin wears, I try to recast i'll be lucky and crab will miss/parry/shield/not interrupt and recast. or i'll take a hit for 60-90 damage.
-This continues a random number of times.
-After a few minutes I have to zone out and heal up.

I'd be lucky if I get a .2 during this folly, the crab normally has about 4/5's life left. A few questions...

What sub do you reccomend for this? BLM for drain/aspir? War for defender/double attack? Thf for evasion bonus? also what foods? Fish Mithkabob for defense?

Accuracy really isnt an issue here they are EM-T and I hit them fine, its just the damage I take makes it too difficult to efficiently solo. Also any other easier options to get to 240?

Totally not FFXI related but related to the thread, does anyone know where online I could possibly find the Freeless Mix of Mr Brightside to stream so I can listen to it before considering buying their mix album thats coming soon?

I did the Steelshells at 73. Used BLM sub and a defense food. Don't forget that if you don't put any DOTs on the crabs, you can sleep them if you start falling behind. Sleep II will give you several ticks of rest if you need it. And its easier to cast sleep than Stoneskin (both higher Enfeebling skill than Enhancing skill and shorter casting time). And you also might want to add Aquaviel to your list of buffs.

It also helps if you don't do it solo. I found it real easy to get BLM, WHM, BRD friends to come along as they also tend to have trouble getting their weapon skills up even in a normal skill-up party. If you start falling behind on Stoneskin, they can help out by throwing a cure and taking a few hits.
