I know there's a bunch of threads about this floating around, but when I prepared for this fight I liked reading a few different strategies and experiences, so I figured I'd give my own.
I beat Maat at lvl 69, on second attempt; only reason I failed on first one was because I was nervous as hell and just kinda stood there while he was beating me up.![Wink](https://www.ffxionline.com/core/images/smilies/wink.png)
I ate a melon pie (yeah cheap), buffed up (Refresh, Protect IV, Shell IV, Aquaveil, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Baraero) and rested back to full MP. That took a good 2 minutes but I knew I was going for the brute force - fast speed approach so I wasn't too worried about that.
After that, I removed his blink by casting Dia twice (NOT Diaga), and immediately after sleeping him (resisted Sleep II but then Sleep I stuck). The reason I didn't use Diaga was cause I wanted to sleep him right away, which my whole strategy hinged on. After he was asleep, it was simply a matter of debuffing all his crap, then I used a pro-ether to get back to full MP.
After that I chainspelled+Aero III, didn't even have to convert, he gave up before I ran out of MP. Somewhere in between he chainspelled too but I ended the fight with full HP without curing once - he threw some nukes but also some gimp Diaga II stuff.
I had a vile elixir and vile elixir+1 on me too, but never needed it. My equipment was full AF, enfeebling torque, phantom tathlum, morion earrings, int rings (whatever they're called), dark staff for the sleeps, wind staff for the aeros, and light staff for the cures (which I didn't need, but I have it for xp pt's anyway). I actually bought the lvl 70 JSE earring that reduces magic damage when you're in the yellow HP, but I was anxious to try him so I did it at 69 and didn't get to wear the earring.![Smile](https://www.ffxionline.com/core/images/smilies/smile.png)
The battle lasted about 5:30 minutes. I had 743 HP and 743 MP.
I know I got lucky in that my second sleep landed, and I don't know if you'd get away with non stop nuking as a non Taru... all I know is that I'm very happy now! ^^
Now to lvl to 70... and beyond...
