  • RDM Taru > Maat

I know there's a bunch of threads about this floating around, but when I prepared for this fight I liked reading a few different strategies and experiences, so I figured I'd give my own.

I beat Maat at lvl 69, on second attempt; only reason I failed on first one was because I was nervous as hell and just kinda stood there while he was beating me up.

I ate a melon pie (yeah cheap), buffed up (Refresh, Protect IV, Shell IV, Aquaveil, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Baraero) and rested back to full MP. That took a good 2 minutes but I knew I was going for the brute force - fast speed approach so I wasn't too worried about that.

After that, I removed his blink by casting Dia twice (NOT Diaga), and immediately after sleeping him (resisted Sleep II but then Sleep I stuck). The reason I didn't use Diaga was cause I wanted to sleep him right away, which my whole strategy hinged on. After he was asleep, it was simply a matter of debuffing all his crap, then I used a pro-ether to get back to full MP.

After that I chainspelled+Aero III, didn't even have to convert, he gave up before I ran out of MP. Somewhere in between he chainspelled too but I ended the fight with full HP without curing once - he threw some nukes but also some gimp Diaga II stuff.

I had a vile elixir and vile elixir+1 on me too, but never needed it. My equipment was full AF, enfeebling torque, phantom tathlum, morion earrings, int rings (whatever they're called), dark staff for the sleeps, wind staff for the aeros, and light staff for the cures (which I didn't need, but I have it for xp pt's anyway). I actually bought the lvl 70 JSE earring that reduces magic damage when you're in the yellow HP, but I was anxious to try him so I did it at 69 and didn't get to wear the earring.

The battle lasted about 5:30 minutes. I had 743 HP and 743 MP.

I know I got lucky in that my second sleep landed, and I don't know if you'd get away with non stop nuking as a non Taru... all I know is that I'm very happy now! ^^

Now to lvl to 70... and beyond...

69, we get our level 3 spells every 2 levels starting at level 65.

      Stone 3 - 65
      Water 3 - 67
      Aero 3 - 69
      Fire 3 - 71
      Blizzard 3 - 73
      Thunder 3 - 75

It took me about 8-9 trys to beat Maat, when I finally beat him I did it in under a minute and 50 seconds. Was before my chainspell even ended. I didnt have any staffs(I was poor ><) which would have helped a lot I think on some close calls I had early on =/ like him being 100hp from death/giving up.

Heh, if you want to insinuate people are lying, at least do your research.

Now I remember again why I had stopped posting here...

Reacting to a post (by Tifa), which another poster (Vinen) 7 hours prior to yourself has pointed out contains incorrect information, with a reply that insinuates things about the rdm forum, is not reflecting in any positive way on you (Peltar).

On all message boards and forums, i have frequented and posted on since I, in a by now distant past, started playing MMORGs (UO only a short time -> EQ several years -> FFXI almost a year), there has been people posting wrong information etc.

A few were trolls who did it in malicious intent, but most were doing it in good faith or due to a misunderstanding, thinking that some spell, mob, item, raid target etc. was something else that it really was.

Why you feel a need to react to a post that already has been miscredited/proven incorrect 7 hours prior by Vinen, with a post of your own, with insinuations of your own, is frankly puzzling. And why drop to the level of the said post in your own answer (and probably further since you take an issue of a spells level and extends it to an entire forum for a job in FFXI) is not very 'impressive' at all.

Negative things aside, and returning to the usuable content in this thread, i find it nice that rdms are beating Maat, which can be a tough fight for many, which in turn makes reports about the fight a welcome addition for those fellow rdm that have yet to face him.

Very nice. I was wondering when I would see a taru Maat strategy. As of last night I'm 2700 exp away from lv 70, so once I hit 70 and recap my skills, I'm gonna try him again, probably using your strategy. (Btw, that Dia twice thing is brilliant, and I haven't seen it in any guide but yours). Anyway, I have all the equipment you have, minus the morion earrings, but I guess with the extra skill from lvl 70 I should be ok.

Thanks for the guide and good luck on your way to lvl 75 ^^.

Isn't there enough forum "drahmah" in the server specific forums?

As for this guide, it sounds like your strategy was much like what I've been planning. Dia over Diaga sounds spot-on, and I think the Wind Staff is pretty important to the hard-and-fast approach.

Congrats! I hope I can do it as well as you did!^^
              There will be cake.

I won this fight without the wind staff using a brute force methdon, I did not have a Wind Staff though, and i did use a Vile Elixer +1, I actually just did Stoneskin, Blink, rushed maat casting Diaga, then chainspelled Aero3'ed drank VE+1 when I fell below both 50%mp and 50%hp, I cure4ed myself a few tims in the fight as well.

Yeah I just did your method. Worked alright, but I panicked during my chainspell Aero3 nuking lol. He came up on me and bashed me up pretty good. Ended sleeping him 4 times >< Battle lasted 7min40sec and for some reason I didnt see Asuran Fists. Lucky me I guess.

Haha, nice job, took me a few tries to realize that I need to bomb him has fast as possible rather than get fancy with sleeps.

Yay i just beat Maat as a taru!!!!!!!!!!!

I used the sleep aero III method. I got sick of losing (only lost twice) so I basically won the fight with gil.

                      I brought 2 Pro Ethers
                      2 Vile Elixers
                      Windstaff
                      Elemental Torque

I just slept (dark staff enfeeble torque) and Aero III'd for roughly 400+ dmg each time.

Towards the end after 5 Aero IIIs he chainspelled I landed a sleep, converted elixered nuked some more and won.

Pro ethers were used when my MP dropped below 200. I know its a waste, but i used it anyways.

Always keep blink and stoneskin up.
