    Either one should work.

    - Flame Sword (LV18): D16, Delay 218
    - Long Sword +1 (LV18): D17, Delay 233
    - Tuck +1 (LV23): D16, Delay 220

My advice is always upgrade your sword to the best one at any level if you want to stand on the frontline.

Personally, I used a Bee Spatha +1 from level 11-30. It has a good delay (225 I think) decent damage (14) and a +2 accuracy bonus. I just didn't see the need to upgrade it until Centurions Sword at 30. It will probably run you 4-6k, but its well worth it for 19 levels of use ^^
        FFXIV: ARR - Leviathan Server - 50 Bard, 47 Dragoon, 50 All crafts, 48 Botany, 48 Miner
        FFXI: Shiva Server

I'm doing the same thing. I've been using my Bee Spathe +1 since level 11 and have had no real complaints. Enhance it with En-whatever and it does respectable damage for it's level. Currently as a lvl 28 RDM, I've been looking at upgrading my sword over time, and I just decided to wait until I hit lvl 30 to get the Centurian's sword.

Make sure you have the best wand available to you also. Write equipment macros so you cast debuffs/nukes with your wand on, and then melee with your sword. That way you play the best mage you can, but can provide that little extra damage when you're taking a moment out from casting (and that time becomes shorter and shorter as the levels progress, so enjoy it )
