  • My RDM dilemma.

    Well, I'm a level 32 Taru RDM and I am pondering over if I should get RSE or not. The Taru RSE is loaded with HP, and the body and leg pieces have +MND which couldn't hurt with my backup cures. I sub BLM, so that wouldn't really be all that necessary, but the HP would be awesome. The thing is, according to that Virtual Vana'diel Timer, the next Taru M RSE isn't until July 6th at 3:14 am, ending at 10:54 am. That's JP time and I'll most definitely be sleeping!! At the moment, I don't have enough gil to be spending on RSE in the AH, so...

    ...should I just forget about RSE all together? I know a ton of people that never used it and are doing fine. If I should require it's stats later on down the line, I can always go back and buy it or do the quest from the NPC gob.

    I read a Red Mage 101 thing and it said RDM shouldn't concentrate on tunics/cloaks. They should have ARMOR like a melee class. This is where I'm thrown for a loop. I'm sitting here in my Lv18 Black Tunic because I don't know if I should buy some armor, a Lv34 Cloak, or go do my RSE. This is where I need your help... any advice is greatly appreciated. =)

    Also, should I, as a RDM/BLM, be concentrating on feet/leg/hand pieces as much as I do body pieces? I don't need the extra DEF, and keeping gil for scrolls/food/misc and what not is always good. Thanks again. ^^

    the tunic/cloak thing is because with them u can't wear a hairpin.

    personally i really don't like taru rse(lvl30ish), its worthless except a few pieces of mind, the defense is to low to make it viable for a melee class, and the stats are enough of a bonus. i plan on questing mine and selling it. altho i havn't had a chance to really, i'm incredibly lazy about such things

      I'm Elvaan so you can discount my experience as needed.

      RSE gloves and feet for me are god like compared to the nearest level equivilent.

      Feet = Def: 5 MP: 20 AGI: 3 INT: 2
      Hands = Def: 6 MP: 24 DEX: 2 INT: 1

      Being Elvaan i suffer badly from lack of dex, MP and INT which these 2 pieces help greatly with.

      I guess as a Taru you suffer from lack of HP and MND. So i guess the question is, how much do you want to solo. HP i guess is only an issue if

      a) You cannot control your aggro and get hit lots
      b) You solo and get hit lots

      I guess the stats you need are all based on your playstyle. Do you like to group or solo?

      If you like to group and are careful then the brain buffs are all you really need.

      If you plan to solo then a mix of combat and brain stuff is what you want. HP being a large factor of soloing (not so much if you have Phalanx and Stoneskin)

      Compare the RSE to the nearest level equivilent and see which appeals most.

        You can just wait for another time. Just be prepared to have the key ready. If you are not familiar with that place you can simply go explore beforehand.

          And remember to take the quest or you will just get cash or something from the chest.

            Taru RSE is pretty useless, and not only that but it's butt-ugly. Looks like you're running around in a pair of pajamas.

            The body is almost completely useless, but the other 3 pieces are mildly worthwhile. I still wear the gloves because of the +3 STR , and a severe lack of good mage gloves. As soon as I can get a group together I will be questing for my AF gloves anyway, so they will also be gone.

            That being said, it's more useful for a RDM than it is for WHM or BLM. If you were a Taru melee (non tank) it would be pretty useful for level 30-40.

              about taru melee wearing the rse there is better alternatives.

              for gloves at lvl 25 monk/sam/nin can wear federation/windhurst gloves which give +2 or 3 acc/racc depening on +1 or +2 version non war/pal/dark can wear battle gloves for +3 acc +3 evasion at lvl 14, if u can't wear those at lvl 30 sandy conquest point gloves give +2 acc

              for shoes, at 25 monk/sam/nin can wear federation/windhurst boots for +3 or 4 att/ratt or leaping boots

              for legs, the bastokan/republic subligar (yeah even tho subligars look like crap) give +3 or +5 attack which is pretty nice at 25 and allmelees can wear them.

              i really like the gloves over the rse ones, the other gear is personal choice, i am currently wearing the lvl 30 bastok cp gear, (centurions i belive) for my chest and legs w/ the federation (+3 acc) gloves (didn't have 500k for kote yet) and windhurst shoes for +3 attk (lvl 34 sam)
