  • Soloing .... Ice spike vs. Shock spikes?

Since we already have para, do you guys think shock spikes can help us solo better? Shock spikes can prevent a hit or two, saving us mp and time but with ice spikes we never have to recast para. Thanks.

Dumb question... what does each one do? I know one of them paralyze, but which one, and what does the other one do?

Ice spikes is para, shock spikes is stun. I dunno, I never bother casting any spikes while solo'ing. Damage done by the spikes is insignificant, and the extra stun from shock spikes doesn't really seem to affect the mob hit speed, etc, at all ._.

I use spike spells when I'm training multiple mobs at once, then use Blm ga spells to finish them off. I find spike spells can do a suffient amount of damage to low level mobs if your going to be just running around taking the hits anyway.

... As to the question, I would assume Shock Spikes would be more useful. But as Deodorant said, against a single tough mob, 10 extra damage everytime you get hit isn't a big deal.

I use Shock Spikes whenever I am going up against something tougher then the usual mobs I farm on.

While the damage is really not much, the stun effect is a big bonus. Ice Spikes inflicts short-term Paralyze, but I already have a Paralyze spell that causes long term paralyze. So that's not as useful.

With Paralyze, Rasp, Blind, Slow, and Stun from Shock Spikes , I am taking conciderably fewer hits.

In a typical battle against a EP enemy, the stun effect kicks in about 5 times, which means I am taking 5 less hits and dealing about 50 extra damage. It's not that bad IMO.

shock spikes for its stun. It's like a stack over slow spell imo.

oh sorry i was talkign about the damage from the spikes, i was talking about the effect. Mine don't do damage at all really, i was more about stun vs. para for the effect to save mp from healing.

Spike spell damage sucks regardless. Ice Spike effect happens so rarely, even on too weaks...that leaves Shock Spikes. Shock Spikes I'm very fond of, the stun effect happens all the time, damage is negligible but when fighting many enemies at once all those stuns can add up. I have a solo/melee macro that's Phalanx, Shock Spikes, Enblizzard with I think wait 6 between each one, they're all on like two minute timers so I just hit that macro once every two minutes and don't think about it too much.
