  • Yet Again..

I know and have read many sub class posts, and hate to beat a dead rotting horse.... But ....

Most of the posts pretain to high level, end-game subbing, how you will do at 60/30 blah blah..

Well i have a question, I want to sub thief, on my red mage, ONLY TO LEVEL 30!

Will it really make that much of a difference in party play? I know thief is supposed to be only for farming, but will i really "SUCK" if i keep thief subbed in quifm?

    Thanks

Yes. Your melee damage will be horrible. Qufim always has a shortage of mages so you'll be expected to focus on magic. Will you get parties? Probably, due to the shortage of mages. You will probably be asked to be the main healer at least once. Will they be good parties? Not with your lower MP due to a melee sub. Expect to spend a lot of time in slow exp parties, or being lfp.

There's no point in it, especially if you're going to bring up a mage sub for after 30. THF sub to 15 is sufficient for farming past 30 and that's it. Besides, most of the mobs you level off of don't even have anything worth stealing, if that's your reason.

I would definatly invite a RDM/WHM or RDM/BLM before you, I'll put it like that.
      There will be cake.

I concur. RDM/THF is only good for farming(and we do it well). You will have better luck lfg with a mage sub.

A rdm with a whm subjob in the dunes is a godsend for those 3 levels that you fight the damselflies. You'll still get invites as rdm/thf, but you're just gimping your own xp, as others have said, by having a smaller MP pool.

Of course, there's a level 61 (might be higher by now) mithra whm/mnk on Titan...she's been whm/mnk since at least level 25, the first time I've grouped with her. She obviously believes in the combo; she keeps her mnk sub fully leveled. So yes, even gimps get groups.

Mithra retired November 2004 - Hume started November 2006
          28 WAR | 18 MNK | 15 WHM | 12 BLM

The responses here don't seem to be answering his question. He isn't asking for end result opions of it but the actual flow. Doing RDM/THF as you are going along I don't see much benefits THF is going to give you as you level RDM with it up to 30.

About the only benefits you'll get from THF as your Mains level approcates 30 is that'll give some evasion bonus, ability to steal, and Sneak Attack/Treasure Hunter at lv. 30 RDM with a THF of lv. 15 or higher.

All those skills and such weather they help or not will kind of depend on the party situations you frequently end up in. I don't see a RDM as frequently being a Tank or taking damage often so the Evasion bonus has little help. As mentioned before steal isn't going to be any good against monsters you level with. Then Sneak Attack/Treasure Hunter your getting at lv. 30 which is as far as you're saying that sub is going with you as a normal sub.

So SA/TH hardly helps much since you get them at the end of that subs planned run. Other then that /THF will give you more DEX but again since RDMs damage isn't really the best and as you start getting higher in level the amount of time spent actually doing melee becomes less so DEX becomes less effective for the party with you having it.

The combination may have more solo benefits then it will a party use, unless you are taking damage very often (which a better option may be to not continue with that party and find a better one). With RDM subbing something like BLM, WHM, SMN, or BRD would have better benefits to you, your position in the party, and the party itself as you are progressing to the lv. 30 mark.

Really every combination has viable use but it's all situational. So what works as a good sub will depend greatly on how frequently certain events occur that you need strengthened.

What are you going to steal or treasure hunt in quifim? At best you'll get more rock salt off crabs and get a little more gil on giants. If you are looking for a ruby get a real thief in the party and it will be more effective.

                HAHAHAH!

Well the only advice I'd give you at the moment is use a dagger for each both classes that way you won't have to bother to buy another type of weapon for the other class.
