  • Landing debuffs at high levels

Ever since lvl 50 or so, when i started leveling off anticans, i notice that debuffs are getting harder and harder to land

Of course my skill is maxed and i have my AF bonuses, but i still got resists, usually on 2 of my 6 debuffs at the time (have since cut to 4)

To remedy this problem as of late i have taken to making macros with 5 lines of equip changes to suit the spell

For paralyze and slow and all cures and haste i have +27 mnd, for all the black debuffs and dispel i have +25 int (with food)...

And yet still get resisted 1 of the 4 debuffs i choose on exp class mobs

I've been levelin on toramas and processionaires, the problem does not seem to go away, i'm hoping enfeebling torque at 65 will help, but not sure...any suggestions? nothing i can really think of...

It might not be affecting you, but some monsters just resist certain types of enfeebling. Ever tried to sleep a bat, for example? I'm not saying they have total resistance, but it is way higher than usual mobs. Failing that, I don't know what it is. Personally, I haven't noticed any difference at 58 than the 1-30.

Day of the week affects the effectiveness of the debuff. For example, Sleep will land much better on dark days. I can't list since I don't choose PTing based on the days. Also, another big factor is the level difference between you and the mob.

Understandable for Dispell, Sleep against anticans. They are dark based on their own so drk based spells such as blind, dispell and sleep will probably get resisted. Same goes with Drain, aspir and other absorbe spells based on drk element.

Buy a Spider Torque or a Enfeebling Torque.. I don't care save for it because skill > stat in almost any situation. Right after I got a Enfeebling Torque life became a lot easier.

I didn't say it was expensive, i got the spider one for this lvl and i still get pissed when the same crawler or crab resists a spell 3 times in a row...

I noticed that Toramas were kinda resistant anyways. I got my enfeeble torque after fighting in Boyada Tree and it made a huge difference.

Tell the Dark Knight and/or Black Mage to do their job and cast shock and absorb-mind . Even if it eventually gets ovewritten it doesn't matter because the debuff (slow, silence) still sticks.
                Just do it.

Debuffs harder to land on high lvl mobs? Not really. In exp parties my debuffs land on first try 90% of the time. I am just too good I guess :D

Day of week, monster resistance, and weather also play a part in how well spells work.

For instance, as noted above, Anticans are highly resistant to Dark magic, so Sleep and Bio are much harder to stick (ditto for bats). If you were a Bard, though, since Lullaby is a Light effect, you can very easily sleep Antica and Bats with Lullaby.

Against Torama, which are Coeurl-type enemies, they are resistant to Lightning but weak against Earth, so Slow usually sticks like glue to them, while Shock is much harder to land.

Usually there's not much you can do about the day of week/weather/monster weakness thing, since you basically are always casting Slow and Paralyze, but sometimes its worth burning up an Elemental on if you think you're going to be resisted a lot.

                      Lullaby is Dark based

Both Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby are Light-based, not Dark. Go do your homework.

rofl Icemage...you're brutal man. I love it ^^

Anyways - always, always, always make sure the BLM casts shock, even if he casts something else later in the fight. Shock is too good to pass up. With shock, I, as a BLM, can land 33-66% of my attempts to land debuffs. I'd imagine RDM's would have an easier time with things

But yeah, torama's are a pain for spells >_<

Some debuffs are resisted by mind, others by int. Luckily Shock and Burn stack :D so have your blm cast both, along with Choke. (Quick question for BLMs out there: Are Shock/Choke/Burn resisted by INT? Do you get lower resists for the other two if you cast Burn first?)

I hate beetles, they resist almost everything (dispel still hits 95+%), but other than that I haven't had any major resist problems yet (except for monsters that resist a specific spell, like sleep vs. undead, silence vs. Air Elementals and I don't even try blind vs. bats anymore).

While exping on torama, I noticed that when I got shock to land, burn landed with 100% accuracy. When I got burn to land, shock landed with 100% accuracy. Without either up, I got about a ~20% resist rate (with ice staff) on shock, ~5% resist rate on burn. I didn't count all the times I got half-resisted...but w/e lol

I always like to cast shock/burn, as it helps the mages the most, and I don't feel that frost will make a really big difference if the melee's are up to snuff. In weaker parties, I'll use frost to give the melee's a little bit more power...but most times, I prefer burn.
