At level 18 you have to level your sub up anyway. Use your sub to get crystals in the nebwie zone - and sell those.

If your Bastokan or in the area, go to the Fumaroles and farm for Beehive Chips and Honey - sell those in stacks.

Go mining. Go fishing. Go logging. Do the Selbina Monument quests.

Go into the Market district of whatever your town and /shout "IM POOR PLZ GIV ME GILZ" a billion times until you get some cash.

Look at the AH, see what sells well. Write it down then see if you can farm for it. Theres no fast way to make money, and very few things are assuredly going to get you cash server-wide. You have do some research.

        ........

just as a warning or whatevs, there is no "quick" cash making scheme. everything takes time. you could do the bubbly bernie quest in bastok. basically just take anything you can that stacks and sell it.

Luckily the most expensive spells & equipment do not come into play at the later levels..

My way of making gil will take place when I hit lvl 34 RDM / 17 BLM. This is when I can use the BLM ability to WARP. (4 lvls away )

What I will do is travel to the Tanrongi Canyon via Chocobo.. There I will kill bees and mandys in 1-2 swings.. Sooner or later ill get stack of bee chips 3k a stack from Bees & Cotton 400 gil each from Mandys. Once I have filled my inventory I will warp back to Windy and sell my goods. Notice this process wouldnt be as fast without warp because you will need to march back everytime...

Although I havent done this yet I know ill be able to rack in gil. Once I find a better farming spot for my level, I will just repeat this process there...

          Hope this helped!

The problem with this, is that you pretty much -need- to sub THF 15+ to get anything worth anything when farming, thus warp is gone. But it doesn't matter, there's a chocobo right at the Crag of Mea.. so it's not like you're walking back. And it takes me like 1.4 minutes to get back from tahrongi to windurst on chocobo. Go figure..

Something I like to do sometimes is get a scroll of insta-warp and go out to Meriphetaud mountains, and farm sadflies for Gausebit wadigrass.

There is a Choco at the Mea Crag??!

Dang that woulda helped before.. lol

Yeah you are right I should probably farm in the Meriphetaud mountains and go for those Gausebit wadigrass. THEN I can warp back to Windy.. lol

Would I still get some grass drops with a BLM sub?

EDIT : One more ?, What lvl should I be to hunt these flies?

                Thanks!!

Yeah, you'll get the drops.. but to farm and get good cash off of it then I would suggest a BLM sub, and just get a scroll of insta warp for 750(right?) Conquest points. You can farm these as a RDM, at level 30.. maybe a little bit before, so this is prolly not a good idea for a level 18, BUT if you're trying to get your chocobo liscence, get another level 18-20 player and farm these babies. They drop fairly often, with two people you can clear out the flies and sell the grass or use it for your chocobo license. Anyway, the only thing to watch out for there is gobs x.x.. those are dangerous.

For the grass, /THF really isn't too needed. It's such an easy drop I stopped taking /THF and just take /BLM so I don't have to walk back. Plus, the flies link, so I just Dia one, and link about 4 or 5, and -ga them to death. The average drop is still 3/5 even with /BLM. And I also suggest selling them in Jueno, the price is usually a lot higher there (900 is average, but ranges from 700 - 1k, 1k usually being on the weekends).

I agree, the fly drop rate for grass is extremely high. I was taking someone from my LS to jeuno for his first time, and we stopped to kill some flies for his choco quest. Killed 7 Flies, got 5 grass (I kept the last one)

Then we proceeded to kill a few Skinks in Sauromuge and got 2 raptor skins (1.8k each) but later I went back and killed 2 dozen raptors with no skin drop This was all with THF sub.

One of my high level friends (74) told me something interesting the other day. He said ex items are lottery drop and /THF wont change their drop rate. So Skull, mold, papyrus, etc, THF doesn't help at all. But rare or common items, treasure hunter helps.

I went to horoto ruins last night with my RDM/THF to farm Goblin Thugs for wild onions. Got a stack in about 30 minutes... drop rate was at least 2 onions/5 gobs. Considering Wild Onions are currently 6k/stack it was very profitable.

Crawlers for silks are always a favorite since stacks are 10-12k. I like beetle jaws lately too, sold my last stack for 11k, but I can't find a place to farm where jaws drop frequently, mostly get insect wings and shells which are worthless.

I'm derailing topic a little but I'd like to mention this

One of my high level friends (74) told me something interesting the other day. He said ex items are lottery drop and /THF wont change their drop rate. So Skull, mold, papyrus, etc, THF doesn't help at all. But rare or common items, treasure hunter helps.
There is no proof for either theory on this, if TH helps or not. Some say both help, some say neither, and then there are some like me which believe only TH2 affects rare/ex. No one has solid proof though, not even the JP who've been around for 2 years, although of course they developed opinions on the subject.

My preferred ways of farming are ram hunting thf/rng when my AH, or at least my mule's AH is totally emtpy about. If it's full, I do hunting in which you obtain gil, such as farming beastmen trains with AOE spells/ws. And items from beastmen at lower lvls normally sell only slightly lower than AH rate anyway.

Crawlers are fine but they bore the living heck out of me. I'll on occasion also farm beehive chips and make beewaxs, level 0 alchemy you can start, gets you to 6. It's actually no profit, slight profit, or slight loss on my sever, but it's easier to sell 12 of one thing than 36 of another in most cases.

Also if you get bone and/or leather craft up, when you kill rams you can craft stuff right there, especially with leather since skins drop so often and so much(I've gotten 5-6 countless times). This saves room for more skins and it's profitable to craft them. However to get to rams first requires a thf/rng or rng/thf(post 50) since there is almost always competion or lucky people passing by.

Also with thf primary or subbed you can steal silver or mythril coins off beastmen, but you better have an exit near, or be high enough to kill them off (flee, hide,SA are such useful farming tools). Note steal rate is better with thf primary though and I can say steal rate is largely affected by level from personal experience, as well as other things such as timing etc. Stealing coins is normally a good "addition" to killing beastmen though, not as a primary farming technique, unless it's gold or higher really and you got thf AF(lots of +steal) and a 60+.

Point of post, there are so many ways to farm, I just covered the tip of the iceberg, do what you enjoy because you'll be farming lots if you plan on staying with the game.

EDit: since rdm could only equip rng or thf sub one at a time though, you'll most likely be farming something with very good drop rates while using /rng, or /thf but attacking stuff that you can find around every corner. Know what you're gonna do then level one sub. IMO this would be you're best course of action. And since rdm is a good solo job, preheps there are some things you could begin farming way before a thf(crappy solo) or many other jobs, it's up to you.

TH does appear to help with rare ex drops at least it appeard to help a LOT with Unlit Lanterns in Ugglipeth / Den of Rancor. Took us 5 hours to get 3 one time without a thief, brought a thief with us killed 2 Maledictors and got 2 lanterns.

That's what you call "good luck". Don't thank your THF so easily - try taking a THF along to all your item hunts, and you'll soon see what I mean
