  • RDM Genkai 5 and Asuran Fist

Finally beat Maat today... on my 16th try

I had lost the previous 15 times because almost every time I had fought him, Maat would use Asuran Fists and I would die, usually when he has less than 50% life left after I've aero3'd him a few time.

I had thought that I was the most unlucky RDM since creation because people keep telling me that which Weapon Skill Maat uses in completely random, and that I was just unlucky that Maat decided to use Asuran on me 15 times in a row. However, "luck" was not at fault here.

Shortly after the fight, I heard a "rumor" that if you spend too long fighting Maat (one figure I heard is longer than 6 minutes), Maat will activate Asuran 100% of the time. Based on my experience, I'd say this is more than just a "rumor" and is in fact some algorithm programmed into the RDM Genkai 5. I like to go slow in my fights, and I usually use the Aero3/Sleep2 --> drink super-ether method. Super-ether's take a while to drink and there's a no-casting lag period after you've used it, so it would usually be about 5 minutes into the fight when I'd get Maat down to 50% health. Shortly afterwards, Maat would activate his Asuran Fists and beat me to a pulp.

So how did I win this time? I was lucky. I slept him 3 times in a row after he activated Asuran. I had chain-spell on by then and was able to cast the 8 aero3's necessary to win. I was amused to discover that being slept does not interrupt Maat's Asuran. The WS would just continue after he wakes up.

But anyways, I'm glad I finally got over this hump and can finally get in some lvl-up pt's. I haven't level up'd in 3 months

Just thought I'll share this bit of info about Maat and Asuran Fist with you guys. There is a lot of truth in saying that doing the Maat fight faster is better. Knowing this ahead of time would have certainly helped me, but I don't care now because I already won ^^.

Oh BTW, Asuran can hit up tp 6 times if you didn't know already. I once died on the 6th hit... And sorry if this info had already been posted elsewhere in another thread. I have been reading posts about RDM genkai 5 here and haven't read anything about it.

from what i've heard, maat randomly picks a weaponskill to use on your when u first try him, then from there out he will use that weaponskill vs you

As the single biggest "Total Loser" there is..

Having lost something like 20 times (lost count~) to the original RDM Maat, prior to the patch to "adjust his difficulty"..

I can confirm that this rumor is really not true.

I timed out against Maat twice in all my failing attempts, and on those two attempts he did not activate Asuran Fists. I am certain that he did not, because if he had, I would surely have died.

And in my final, winning attempt (First day after the patch, first attempt after the patch, and first post-patch RDM on Ramuh to win~), I took 6 minutes and 32 seconds to win. No Asuran Fists.

(And if there's someone out there who's a bigger "Total Loser" than me, I'd love to hear about it.. Because as far as I know, I've lost to Maat more times than anyone)

The exact timing I am not sure, but my fight took me 8 mins 56 seconds, and he activated asuran towards the end of the fight. On the 2 times that you timed out, did you get Maat down to around 50% health of less? Did he use another WS or did he not WS at all? This is of course all speculation of my part, but 15 Asurans in a row seems way too much to be coincidence.

I've heard the 8 minute mark is when he begins spamming Asuran.

I fought Maat 4 times total, and in all 4 fights he didn't use a single WS on me (I either won, or died, before 5 minutes in all of my fights). And no, I'm not claiming anything, just saying what happened to me.

I beat Maat on my 9th-12th try I kinda lost count as I was going 2-3 times a day at times.

Anyhow, In those times I only had him once ever use a WS on me that was my first try. Was spinning attack. Then again most my attempts never lasted more then 2-3 minutes.

Hrmm.. I can't recall exactly what he did on the times i timed out. I'm relatively certain he used a WS, because he always did, as I recall. But most of the time, he used some weak WS like tankei or combo.. yes.. COMBO.. Still can't believe he actually used that against me a couple of times.. Didn't even pull my stoneskin off heh. He rangeikei'd me a couple times too, which was a little more serious than combo, to be sure.

I only had him use Asuran against me on two fights, and on one of those fights, he used two back-to-back Asurans. Very painful. I survived the first, but it popped off my stoneskin, and the second killed me. Whee~

                  Oh, and maytrix..

Yah, and knowing is half the battle..

                  Sorry, major eighties flashback ^^

In my case, he never used any weapon skills when I fought him. I think its due in part that I never engaged him so he never got that much TP from me, although, he doesn't need TP to do it.

I also read in a post on another forum where the person who fought him on two characters (he said the first time he did it with his character and the second one was his girlfriends, both RDM's), stated that Maat uses Asuran Fists if you are doing something wrong during the fight and he just wants to kick you out of the fight. Thats when he starts spamming Asuran Fists on you.

It's really hard to say exactly when he uses his TP moves or for which reason. I guess in a way I was lucky he never used it on me on all my attempts, but he didn't really need to on most of my fights since he wiped the floor with me on 5 of the 7 fights I had (I got really close on the previous fight where I then realized what I had to do to beat him). From all the posts I've read on this fight, everybody has had a different strategy they used or the fight went very differently from each persons fight. I guess its all depending on how you play and the things you do during the fight.
Titles obtained: Aspidochelone sinker, Fafnir Slayer, Niddhog Slayer, Behemoth Dethroner, Kirin Captivator.
                    Titles left to obtain: None.

Damn, pwned again. 4th time I took too long and ate Asuran fist. 5th time, on wind day, Sleep II and Sleep only worked like 20% of the time with +29INT. To make matters worse, Convert macro failed (No convert yet ability was used requiring 10 mins wait)

Sleep 2 seems to work about 80% of the time on Dark days for me. I'm thinking of going on a Dark day now but making sure I don't waste too much time and eat Asuran fist.

So did others go on Wind or Dark days?

I went on Drk day on my winning attempt for exactly that reason. I had realized by then that, with the way I do the Maat fight, facing Asuran was un-avoidable, and that being able to sleep Maat is more important than the extra damage going on wind day would bring. And who knows, from reading various posts, it sounds like 8 aero3's is the magic number when Maat gives up, so maybe it doesn't matter how much damage each of your aero3's do as long as you land 8 unresisted aero3's on him.

It would be helpful if someone can make a recording of the Maat fight and post it somewhere. For people who's passed already, you can re-do the Maat fight as long as you have another RDM paper. I think a lot of people who are having trouble with g5 would benefit from viewing such a recording.

I will keep this in mind. Also I probably try having a macro to switch to drk staff when I cast sleep since it increases the sleep effect by 10%. Or so I heard. Also I heard sleeping method is quite unstable aswell. Now what to do when he cast blink first... since I have NO IDEA what he is casting at start when entering BC (you knonw when entering BC and the cinematics kicks in he is already casting his first buff which sux -_-)

For anyone who actually managed to beat this...what stat should you recommend concentrating on?

Mind, Int, MP or Elemental skill level?
