  • Its hard for me to tell when to dispel...

    I'm lvl 34 now, in Crawler's Nest...

I have some filters on so i dont see what OTHER groups hit or miss or whatever, i dont care about other PTs and it spams my screen.

So the thing is I dont get a text message saying Crawlers uses X ability on itself (they're defense up ability, whatever it's called). So what I do is get close enough to see the bubble that forms around them when they us ethat ability, then I know I have to dispel, and I do.

Why don't I see a text message when they buff themselves? Could it be one of my filters? I wont be able to get close on mobs that AOE so I need to be able to tell when to dispel.

I believe its under the filter "Special actions initiated by others". Not sure, but I'm pretty sure it's something under the "others" filter. What I do is have no filters on, but have damage to overhead only. That way I can still see any special moves to dispel and no damage ever spams my screen

square fudged this one up and i expect to see this corrected in a coming patch

the filter that blocks this is "Special actions initiated by others"
this SUCKS because "others" means both other players in parties near you, AND the mob.

they really need to separate mobs from players with this filter.

turn all damage off and you should get minimal spam from other groups (still some tho) and see your own mobs buffs going up

If you turn all damage off or put it onscreen only then you don't see skillchain effects and you won't see if your debuffs get resisted. Filter options flat-out suck.

There is a section under config that lets you select which special effects initated by others to filter.

              ...

however messing with that for half an hour I still have not figured out how to get it to work.

What I do when there are other parties close by for the text to show is try to look at what the monster is doing whenever a message of what you need to dispel appears.

i've had a problem with this too, since my parties have picked me up as a healer and always want me to dispel too. i don't mind dispelling, but it sucks while i'm healing, because i have to pay attention to the hp bars of my members and the monster since i have the special actions filter on. it sucks to have to look at two places onscreen at once and pay attention to both.

You have to do that as a whitemage as well for status affecting ailments.

Just get used to it. It's not that bad.

actually, i changed fonts for when my party members are affected by status effects. the text is blood red so it catches my eye and i immediately cast the appropriate na spell. it'd be easier if i could see when the mob was casting the defense buff in my text box, cuz then i'd just hit my macro and dispel immediately and the melees won't hit it a few times for 0-3.

Don't worry. Soon you'll get to the point where eight parties don't cram themselves into one tiny room. (hopefully... don't they know that ruins everyone's exp?) Just watch the mob and listen for the sound of the buff, that's how I've been doing it.

If you're having trouble knowing when to dispel ask the tank, or one of the melees, to make a macro with a <call> in it to help you.

Personally I also filter enemy WS's, but I am often in melee and catch it, if I fail to do so I have my PT on voice comm with me to make me aware of the need to dispel.

maybe have your pt's attacks on, so u can see the stream of they're damage, if u see it start to dip, cast dispel. i'd rather have a rdm dispel and not need it, than not dispel at all
