  • What's so bad about RDM/WHM??

    Hi all,

I've been doing a lot of reading on multiple forums about the RDM (I like to try to get as much info as possible about job classes so I can play them effectively), and just about every rdm i see is a RDM/BLM. Even in threads to new RDM's I see stuff like "you'll be coming back here to level your BLM anyway".

My question is, why aren't there as many RDM/WHMs out there? Granted I'm playing a RDM/WHM because I already had a lvl20 WHM before I started RDM, but is this a futile attempt?

    Thanks ^^

No. RDM/WHM would actually be more usefull in a party in a way pre warp and escape. Most RDM just choose BLM for the convenience of warp and escape.

Edit: Ah yes. As the post below me said, Conserve MP is very nice, as well.

I was RDM/WHM up until around maybe RDM55, in which I gave into RDM/BLM-pressure and decided to go with /BLM sub. However, I plan to level /WHM and /BLM to at least 37 so I can keep my job more versatile ^^ Maybe /BRD too~

Both are very good combinations, and are very feasible combinations which complement the group very well either way. The main reasons why I sub /BLM are for Conserve MP and Warp, 'cos I'm lazy ^^

      /WHM pros:
      1. -na spells, good to cast to keep your WHM in party less stressful (Silena is a godsend in Quicksands)
      2. Curaga spells, you can cast these and supposedly not have monster hate you too much since Refresh/enfeebles/etc. don't draw that much enmity
      3. Divine Seal, works hand in hand with Convert and Cure III or IV ^^

      /BLM pros:
      1. More maximum MP, though not by much; maybe 10~20MP..
      2. Conserve MP. Yes, it kicks in around 25% of the time but the overall MP saved is very noticeable.
      3. Chainspell+Escape in case your party is REALLY screwed over
      4. Warp if there is no BLM for Warp II
      5. More INT~? And access to the elemental debuffs, Drain, and Aspir. Good if your Dark Magic is very high because RDM Dark Magic rises so slow *_*

Having both BLM and WHM sub maxed is always a good thing. I'm a gimped RDM for my WHM is at LV1. Not often, but there have been times when a PT asks if I can sub WHM NM PTs have also asked for WHM sub in the past. WHM is by no means a lost cause, but thank god for BLM and SMN with WHM sub in my PTs.

Most good RDM have both BLM and WHM subs lvled fully so they can adjust according to what their situation is going to be.
          There will be cake.

I agree, try to have both subs available so you can assist according to your pt setup. If you want to only choose one, imo /whm helps your pt more defensively while /blm aids in enfeebs and offensively. Plus warp is always convenient.
btw is escape even available for /blm as a sub?

I'm in a similar situation, but I level my WHM for BLM sub. I guess you've subbed RDM when levelling BLM until now? I've only ever been asked once if I could sub WHM with RDM, and when I said no, they invited me anyway.

RDM/BLM70, BLM/RDM40, and SMN/RDM26 are what I use I'm such a gimp. Maybe one of these days I will level WHM.

If I were a PT leader, I would prefer WHM sub for my BLM & SMN.

IMO, a RDM/BLM is better because he has Warp, Sleepga and Escape. Those things can save lives.

RDM/WHM is far superior in exp parties, from Divine Seal alone.

Heres a typical Convert sequence from a RDM/BLM:
                        Convert
                        Cure IV - 88mp
                        (only about 50% hp cured)
                        Cure III - 46mp
Another Cure III or 4 - 46mp minimum
                        Total: 180 mp

                        Typical Convert from RDM/WHM:
                        Convert
                        Divine Seal
                        Cure IV - 88mp
HP is white, ready to go
                        Total: 88mp

As you can see, having Divine seal makes Converts MUCH more efficient. Not only does this save you close to 100mp, but it saves time if you have to convert during battle.

Before you think, realize that 100MP is nearly 1/5 of a RDM's mp during the 40's. During the 50's a non-taru rdm will have 550+ mp, so 100 is still a huge chunk.

Don't be selfish. Don't sub blm just for warp. There will always be a blm/whm or a whm/blm in your party to cast Escape, so don't think you need to have that in exp party.

                        Be smart. Sub WHM.

If you know how long it takes to recast Blina, you'll soon realize how useful /whm sub is to help WHM to concentrate on healing a tank.

If you know the real strength of RDM, you'll soon realize who the best caster of group bar- spells (need /WHM) is against creatures with group effect like tigers. Ah, don't forget avatars, too

Both /BLM and /WHM have advantages as often mentioned here and it really depends on what we hunt. It is nice to have both subs leveled enough.

                              Me? It's still underleveled O....rz

Well, as soon as I purchase Erase (need 100K more but some ice ores will pay for it next week, hehe), I'll start raising it again since it is preferred when we go to Gustav hunting skeltons.
