  • Elemental Staffs and debuffs

    do elemental staffs affect their corresponding debuffs?

    ie. paralyze and silence are wind element spells, would a wind staff help these debuffs land?

    I've been sleeping things with dark staff equipped, I have not been resisted yet and my sleeps are lasting very long.

    paralyze is ice elemental i believe...and to my knowledge, the staves don't seem to help debuffs land better. i use paralyze while weilding my ice staff when doing coffer key hunts and other stuff...on IT mobs, i get resisted a LOT. also, as far as i know, sleep spells have a set duration. sleep I will last a maximum of 60 seconds, 30 if half resisted, and sleep II will last a maximum of 90 seconds, 45 if half resisted.

      I've tried this with a couple staves and so far all I have to say is "meh" I havn't seen any increase in their resistance and if they assist with enfeebling even 10% is an extra 24 points or so at our level. My enfeebling torque (enfeeble+7) and Mythic wand are working much better for me.

            Last I heard the elemental staffs only affect dmg for spells, like fire staff boosts the dmg firaga does by +10% and lowers blizzaga dmg by -5% (might be -10%). Haven't heard anything about them affecting resists.

              Yesterday, I tried to verify if the rumor that elemental staffs helps enfeebling spells land better is true and casted Paralyze with Ice Staff.

              I took the statistics with FFRep. (Pls check the image attached)

              Paralyze landed 99 times out of 106 (93.4%) while Slow landed 81 times out of 92 (88.0%).

              We mainly hunt Skimmers (LV72 - 74) and Steelshells (LV73 - 76). Because they are both weak against ice, +5% increase in land rate compared to Slow is thought to be normal.

              However, in order to get an accurate result, I think I have to match MND between Slow and Paralyze because I had +30 with Mythic (Slow) and +22 with Ice Staff (Paralyze). Orz

              Therefore, I haven't had my conclusion yet. In fact, there are many of us arguing between two opinions.

              One thing I'm pretty sure is it greatly helped my Bllizard II to do full damage (48 times out of 52, 92.3%, Max dmg: 362) at MB. I will purchase Elemental Torque in two weeks after I hopefully harvest some Ice Ores.

              My friend (Taru RDM) told me that he brought Wind Stuff and his AeroIII did Max "404" dmg on Ma'at without being resisted. I think I will buy one by the time I challenge him. I believe it will definitely make things easier.

                They seem to work for me. But high hnms still resist like mad anyhow.

                  I've done a little experimenting of my own with Dark Staff using Aspir and Drain on Robber Crabs. With maxed Dark skill, I found it resisted far less with the staff than without and I typically drained or aspired twice as much with it on as I did with my Rose Wand +1 on.

                  Doesn't mean they do anything to enfeebling spells, but I'd say it's a possibility. I have heard also that Light Staff helps with Requiem and Earth Staff helps with Prelude and so forth, which suggests they might help with any spell based on the element of the staff.
                  There will be cake.

                    Cool. I'm going to try casting Slow with Earth Staff once I get one. Well, I have to buy Wind Staff first for my Genkai 5 quest

                      I believe they do help, hardly get resisted at all anymore, cept when fighting gods. 5xarchangel, dynamis, fafnir etc debuf em np usualy. Nothing concrete etc, but I seem to land silence alot better even minus the 12 int i lose from using a wind staff.

                        oh and you can tell what element debufs are by the color of the icon in the spell menu.

                        gravity = wind
                        silence = wind
                        slow = earth
                        para = ice
                        bind = ice
                        sleeps = dark
                        aspir drain = dark

                          Just as a note, threads on the Bard forum here confirm that the various staves seem to help all the songs as long as the correct staff is used for each song.

                            Excuse me if this seems like a stupid question, but why cast Aspir on Robber Crabs? I've been chastised many times for casting Aspil on monsters that don't actually use magic, and sure enough, when I checked, I was only gaining a couple of MP, which isn't worth the casting time, I think. Likewise, casting Drain on bats is a waste of time.

                              It may sound funny but Crabs are PLD.

                              Because of their low magic resistance, Aspir works best on them as well as beatles.

                              I sometimes absorb 70 - 80MP from IT Steelshells in Boyahda Tree.
