  • Macroing with Red Mage.

This might sound like a strange question to you Red Mages, or even to anyone else who've made macro's in the game, (Which is pretty much almost everyone.) but what do you Red Mages think are necessary macro's?

I've never played any mage class beyond level 10 (My PLD is at 64 and War at 37, and other melee classes at random levels over 10.) so I'm unfamiliar with their gameplay, to be honest. I know the Cure series will end up being a staple macro, so will Refresh and Convert. And perhaps Regen. Do you usually macro nukes for MBing, or just cast them manually? (I know quite a few who use them manually, was wondering if you think that's alright.)

    Just want some opinions, thanks~

I just redesigned my macro sets, so I'm not sure I'm remembering them all correctly, but I'll try.

    RDM/WHM macros:
    Ctrl-1 Paralyze
    Ctrl-2 Slow
    Ctrl-3 DiaII
    Ctrl-4 Silence
Ctrl-5 Protectra (will probably replace with Refresh, I don't use it that often)
    Ctrl-6 Regen
    Ctrl-7 Curaga
    Ctrl-8 CureII
    Ctrl-9 CureIII
    Ctrl-0 Chainspell
    Alt-1 Blind
    Alt-2 Poison
    Alt-3 Bio
    Alt-4 Gravity
    Alt-5 Dispel
    Alt-6 Sleep
Alt-7 Bind (hardly ever use this)
Alt-8 unused, I don't know what to put here (maybe Convert)
    Alt-9 HPMPTP report
    Alt-0 Divine Seal

For /blm I put Cure instead of Curaga, and Shock/Rasp on Alt-7 and 8. I use typed commands to cast nukes, status cures and anything else not listed (e.g. En spells, stealth spells, bar spells).

As you can see I have tentative spots for Refresh and Convert, and I'll probably have to squeeze in Haste somewhere too.

My macro priority reflects my play style: enfeeble, backup heal, rarely nuke. If I have nothing important to do I'll cast an En spell and melee rather than nuking over and over - it's much more MP efficient. (I'm a mithra so with Gravity, I haven't had a problem with accuracy. Damage is another matter, but En spells ignore physical defense and str/vit.)
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
    RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae
