  • Camping coffers for AFs

I'm just wondering what the best way of obtaining coffer chests in all three dungeons for the AFs (garliage, eldieme, oztroja)

Everytime I check eldieme, is seems to be almost empty at some point (after JP prime time and before NA prime time), while Garliage seems to always be pakced w/ people. Are these coffers usually camped for their other drops?

I heard (and also know since I see thieves in oztroja all the time) that it's hard to get the tabard in oztroja. Would it be wise to run around and wait 'till one spawns or simply camp one until one pops up?

Also, what IS the timer for coffers? i've researched it here in ffxionline and the answers seems to be inconsistent (30, 20-40...one HOUR)

Thanks in avance I might be able to start coffer 1-3 next week. i'll be sooo happy if I get that tabard...it's like my main goal in this whole game.

Having done the AF quests myself, here are some suggestions to make it easier for you.

    Eldieme:

Bring one person with you, preferrably someone who cast Sneak on him/herself so you two can split up if necessary. A BLM would be good for Escape. You might get lucky, and the coffer'll be up on the main floor of Eldieme ... if it is underground, the only trick is to open the right doors up on the main part so you can drop down to the right part of the underground dungeon. You will only need Sneak here.

    Garlaige:

Bring some friends (three others) with you to help you gain quick access through the Banishing Doors. Waiting for other parties generally means you have competition.

    Oztroja:

Camping this coffer sucked. It took me 3 separate tries, over 7hrs in total running around. Granted, I might have been able to get the coffer quicker if I had stayed in one spot but when I did camp the coffers here, I ran around (every coffer is placed in the middle of several spawn areas so you're going to have to run around to find safe spots to cast Invisible again when it starts to go).

The sad truth is Thieves are going to take coffers constantly here, because Astral Rings can be obtained from Oztroja coffers ... and there's nothing like Banishin Doors to prevent Thieves (or anyone else for that matter) from getting to areas with coffers, so this is literally a foot race against Thieves, most of them subbing ninja for the invisibility ninjitsu. At one point, I had 10 Thieves running around trying to get coffers. So, make it easy on yourself and try to camp this coffer on JP downtime and before the majority of the NA players get home (was around 1:00-4:00pm EST for me).

    Good luck!

For The Eldemine Necropolis a lot of people forget that there is a coffer spawn in the upper left mound and sometimes the Coffer will be there for many days. That Coffer is safe to pop as long as you are full on HP since it is up on a ledge. Take the glacier and go to the EN mound in North Battalia, if you are lucky it will be there.

Galiange Citadel is for a party of 4+. I would suggest going to the second gate and checking there since you can do a quest and check 4 coffer spawns then go to 3rd gate and you can camp near the zone. Thats a safe spot because you can zone incase you get agro or if you just want to leave the place.

Oztroja was probably my easiest one. Camp the place and have your lucky rabbits foot. I'd pick a dedicated area and camp it like no tomorrow. Either near the pool or upstairs with the higher level yagudo. If you want the safest spot you can camp the room behind the door, get into the door by lighting a torch (no flint needed) but it will be scary since each torch room is patrolled by 2-3 yags. Two of those rooms have coffer spawns. If you get into the room behind the door the coffer spawn is behind the statue.

Urm ... how did you get to almost 60 without knowing the basics of MGS? Invisible can be recasted on yourself without it wearing off or manually cancelling (you can recast it right in front of a yag and it won't aggro), so running around in Oz is arguably the easiest of the three coffers.

Sneak on the other hand requires you to manually click-off, which makes it a tad bit more annoying. On the flipside you can cast non offensive spells while sneaked.

I had heard it was true that one can recast invisibility without having to manually kill it first, but I didn't want to take the chance.

If it can be done as such, great. ^^

For me, Oz coffer was the worst. You really learn to hate Thieves here. Picture this. I see a coffer and start running towards it. Suddenly, a thief with flee runs past me and opens a coffer in front of my eyes!! I gave this Japanese THF a tell saying that, "I really need my AF. I have been in OZ for several days looking T T" He felt bad and decided to help me. He found the next coffer pop and directed me to it.

I really wish that there was a mechanism so that once you get a Astral Ring, u default to gils in subsequent openings. Better yet, make Astral Rings be available with coffer keys only!

Much better if you make astral rings Rare. Well maybe not... move the ring to Zvahl or Bedeaeux lol...

              My experience:

              Eledime:
Well I found the coffer near the ribbon quest. Where the 2 dark stalkers were. Found it in 10min.

              Garliage:
Died once since I forgot to bring oil pouders. After passing my banishing door I didn't notice my sneak wore off, had 2 bats on me and low hp bruoght some skellies guest... poof. Found mine past 2nd banishing door where the big gigantic toad was.

              Oztroja:
Not hardest but not easy eighther. Total of 3 hours spent I believe. Lots, I mean lots of invised thf in this area. Found mine past the coded door. 3 thfs were before me but I had my key macro so I opened it before

Eldemine Necropolis - Need one friend with sneak/invisible to play with the levers. I found my coffer chest the bottom with the spriggan (dopplerganger type monster). Macro Chainspell + Warp with a 3 second wait. Opening all chest with removed sneak so open it fast and warp the hell out.

Garliage - need 3 friend with sneak/invisible too. After the 1st banishing the other 2 doors are in separate room with either bomb/slime/skel/magic jar. Everyone need to be able to recast if it is wearing off. I suggested some sneak oil or invisible prizm because if you're stuck in the jar room there is no way out without aggroing the monster outside or the jar inside. Might need that chainspell + warp macro here since i aggro skel me when i open it.

Castle Oz - I got lucky on this one. Found the coffer chest on the second chest that spawn. I found the first coffer and ran toward it and didn't see a THF in sight and suddenly one uninvisible, open it and ran off. Second one i found in the leech's pond and once again i took aggro and chainspell + warp out.

Eldieme: A high level friend of mine and I walked around Eldieme a little and found it in like 10mins...

Garlaige: I camped the first door and luckily the second was being opened as I was running by. I found the coffer fast, and beat a group of high levels to it

Oztroja: I ran around for 2 hours, then saw the coffer, pulled off invis, aggroed a yag, but a PLD standing in front of it pulled it off me...THANK GOD. I did get the coffer in the end
