  • Opinion for this post lvl 50 pt formation

Just recently I ended up in another static pt which I was hoping that I wouldn't have to be the main healer in the group. Unfortunately, things didn't go exactly as I had planned.

Anyway here's the set up of my static atm: PLD, DRG(was initially a warrior but things aren't working out), DRK, MNK, BRD, RDM

I don't mind being the main healer despite that I have to somehow join skill up parties. Right now, my mp is at 506 w/o apple pies and the way we set up the healing order is that the brd and the pld will heal once in a while so that I can conserve as much mp as I can. For enfeebles I usually just do the typical ones like blind, para and slow and the occasional gravity for the high evasize ones and maybe a bit of elemental debuffs. At post lvl 55...would this party set up still be viable when Cure III becomes the norm?

you might consider having a whm in your pt for raise II and raise III.

getting a raise I is quite an expensive loss of xp at lvl 50 and above.

Considering you tank is a pld, that set up is not too bad. Maybe lacking a bit of firepower in spell department but thats it. Although you will end up being the main healer in there.

I had a similar setup from 45-58 in a set PT:

PLD, SAM, MNK, DRG, RDM, WHM

It worked well but eventually the monk left and we had a blm. Things moved much faster with the blm, but personally I couldn't stand the personality issues.

But the 4 melee thing isn't that bad, however you might want to pick a blm up later if someone drops from your PT.

thanks! I know that w/o blm we're going to restrict ourselves to a few enemies and w/ a bit of a slower battles but I think the pt's ok with it. One thing I was really worried about this is that we wouldn't have enough healing power later on in the game.

Should you struggle in the future, try hitting Tought ~ Very tough instead of the usual Tough~ Very tough~Incredibly tough routine. You don't actually have to hunt ITs to get good exp. Just do alot of T~VT and exp in the end will flow. Keep pld yourself and brd when he is low on mp and should be ok.

Was not a static party, but I did played main healer and refresh debuffer when I was your lvl. With samurai tank. Since you have a pld tank he can probably self cure most of the battles.

So if i'm correct, in that level range it is expected of a RDM to:
              1) Heal(as main healer)
              2) Debuff
              3) Refresh
              4)possibly hasting melees too

my thumbs are already getting soar as lvl 23 rdm...can't imagine 50!!

Hm, a bit melee heavy. I definately think you need a dedicated WHM otherwise you're not going to survive to see your 60's. As a RDM, your duties and MP are tied up in debuffing/dispelling and refreshing. Handling primary healing is going to sap your already high mana expenditure. If you ever plan on hunting ITs well into your career, you need to draw a line in the sand: RDM are no substitute for a WHM.

My permanent xp team consists of:

                PLD/WAR - tank
DRG/SAM - DPS class and renkei starter
DRK/THF - DPS and helps with Hate control via Trick Attack
                BLM/WHM - Nuker/elemental enfeebler/support healing
                WHM/BLM - Primary Healer & Haster
RDM/BLM - Enfeeblement, Refresh, support healing/hasting/nuking and occasional melee support

In this kind of setup, since I have 5 members of the PT who need refreshing (DRKs need occasional refreshing too), it's a MAJOR part of my contribution to the PT. I think the most ideal PTs are balanced melee with magic. In my experience, this has been one of the best combos for me.
