  • Latent Spell effects?

I'm a 51 RDM/WHM and I must say I love it. It was my original plan after reading Jei's journal and it's the best.

Ok, real question. I recently started using Gravity in battles because it was rumored that it lowered evasion for mobs. I find now that this is not a rumor but fact.

Can someone list any latent spell effects such as this? (e.g. Gravity = lowers EVA) I want to know I'm making the right choices in my debuffs and have something to say when the other party members question my judgement.

Also, I know this has probably been beat to death but I believe that Dia and Bio don't stack. That still true? I usually prefer Dia II over Bio II. Thanks.

To my knowledge, the only spell that doesn't have a latent effect clearly outlined besides Gravity is Blind (lowers accuracy), but that one is pretty obvious.

Yeah, Dia and Bio still don't stack. The heirarchy remains:

Bio II > DiaII > Bio > Dia

I have dived into the arms of infamous darkness, only to walk the shores of a forgotten land.
I am the student who has bested the teacher, yet knows my learning continues.

...How is Blind lowering accuracy a latent effect? That's the purpose of the spell, isn't it?

Ok, I know all the Bio>Dia threads, I've read most of them, But I know a lot of people who say it's just a myth. Is there anyone here who can actually give me a screenshot(or video) of casting Dia, then Bio, and watching the damage the enemy takes? Because It is kinda important.. It wouldn't be if everyone thought one way or the other, but It's kinda half n half. Some groups I go to choose which debuff, others just cast one of them. It makes sense for them NOT to stack, but it appears to me that they MIGHT stack. I have actually yet to see proof on the subject, besides people telling me that it doesn't.

you can easily test the dia bio thing out. find some weak monster and cast both on them. see the effect wearing off messege. you'll notice that only 1 effect will be wearing off. You can try cast sleep on the monster to really proof that it has no dot effect anymore.

Go to Beaudeax, pull a Garnet Quadav (WHM mob) it will cast Dia II on you. Then aggro a Zircon (BLM mob) it will cast Bio II on you - overwriting your Dia II. Then continue to beat on a Garnet till he casts Dia II on you again. You will note that Dia II does not stick as long as Bio II is up.

This is similar to the mute/diseased status ailments blocking each other.

You can do a slip damage test as Apple and Jei have illustrated numerous times in the forums, but the best way to do it is to test it on yourself. When farming, I've found these two mobs, the Garnets and Zircons, within close proximity of one another and usually chain cast these spells.

Here's what I did to prove this.

                  http://www5.sppd.ne.jp/grendal/FF11/dia_bio.avi (19MB. Need DivX5.11 codec)

                  This is what happened.

                  1. Casted Dia
                  2. Casted Bio
                  3. Saw the message saying "Bio went off."
                  4. Casted Sleep and the Orc fell asleep.

If both stack, I'm supposed to see two messages saying,

                  - Dia went off
                  - Bio went off

On the other hand, try casting Bio and Poison (= They stack) for example. You'll always see the message for each of them.

                  P.S.

Thanks, I've just gotten tired of debating with people and then having no proof to actually back it up. But I might make a video of myself doing it and host it so others can see with roman characters. Thankya, Apple.
