AF gloves question ...

So anyway I finally got Eldieme coffer key for the first part of the AF gloves quest.

I talk to Guslam ... and he says "the boghart gloves are somewhere in Davoi." Because 2 months ago I started AF gloves quest using my THF, but then I quit and never bothered finishing it (thf coffer for af gloves is in Monastic Cavern).

Now ... do I have to open coffer with thf, then go fight dark spark first to complete the quest before reaccepting with rdm? I don't want to go all over eldieme and open my rdm coffer only to find out that I can't get the needed item because the quest is 'flagged for thf.'

Though I suppose it won't hurt to try ... getting my eldieme key was a pain in the ass, but having to do the entire coffer/dark spark thing with thf isn't exactly much less of a bother ...

Deodorant, I have no idea. If its anything like the missions you'd have to finish one before the other, but again I don't know for sure.

I also have a question as to the order of AF. I've done the Fencing Degen and Warlock Boots already. Do I have to do the next few AF pieces in order? Do I have to finish the gloves before doing the legs, chest, hat? I've been having some difficulty getting people interested in hunting for Eldieme Coffer keys so I was wondering if I could do the other ones first if possible.

I had been using Killing Ifriti's site for AF information but I haven't been able to access it for the last few days. Is there another site that explains the AF quests well?

No, just get the gloves quest (i.e. just talk to Guslam) and then every other AF quest is opened. You need to go to Sando to open the hat quest, but you will not do that til very high 50s-60. The legs and chest are open to you though.

AF1 (Weapon) and AF2 (Boots) are required before you can start the glove quest (AF4?). AF3 is the level 60 hat, WAIT ON IT. Don't do that yet. Just start the AF Glove quest and go through that one.

*I bet what you've run into is a quest flag problem. You'll have to complete the quest OR talk to a GM and ask them to remove the flag, I don't know if they will but considering its kind of halting your progress and gameplay they might put in a request to do so. Or you can complete thief a little bit, get some friends and do that glove quest real quick, then get in a Dark Spark PT in Jeuno. Then when the glove quest is completed and in order you can probably start it with Redmage.

*Remember to start the Dark Spark quest quest before you go, you need to have it started to get the Key Item. We had someone make this mistake.

umm, the way it works is like this

In order to accept the glove AF quest, you need to pass AF1 weapon and reach level 50. AF2 has nothing to do with it.

In case you already accepted Guslam quest for 1 job, you will need to complete it before you can accept the quest for other job. The part you need to complete, is only the glove which includes openning coffer, make a contract with the ghost in Port Jeuno, kill dark spark, obtain fire of darkness and obtain the actual glove. Once you got the glove, then you can accept the glove quest for other jobs.

Guess I got no choice but to buy lvl 50 equips again for my thf :sweat: unless ... can I go open Monastic Cavern coffer with thf, make contract with ghost with thf, but then kill dark spark with rdm? Or must it be thf all the way ...

... sigh in any case I have to fight dark spark twice ... well my rdm looks pimp enough now already so I don't have to get AF now now now, but still ...

I have no idea how it works, but isn't there a chance you can just pick the lock on the coffer in Davoi as a THF, allowing you to avoid having to buy gear again?

I'm fairly sure you can kill Dark Spark as a RDM for your THF gloves as well. I was helping some random people with WAR/PLD AF-3 and one of the PLDs changed jobs to WHM because we were short. He was still able to get the required item even though he was a WHM, so I don't think it'd be any different in this case.

Aha, in that case I'll just go naked into Monastic Cavern with thief tools (too cheap to buy living/skeleton, and I don't care if my thf dies ).

I'm tempted to go open eldieme coffer with my rdm now anyway, but it took me 2 days of begging my LS for help for a key hunt, so I'd better not risk it.

Just a thought - when you kill dark spark and examine the ??? ... does it give you a regular or a key item? Cos if it's the latter, there might be a chance that I wouldn't need to fight dark spark a second time after opening rdm coffer ... right?

i guess i can hand you a little tips.
AF gloves Quest. It is the one whish is prepared for every job.
if you accepted the quest as Thief, you gotta finish as Thief first.
then again you recieve the quest as RDM.
if you open the Eldime coffer now, you will get nothing but gils or item.

check your quest offer list. if there is AF gloves quest<Thief>,
you must finish it as thief first.

You receive a key item from killing Dark Spark, but it goes away when you use it to get AF gloves for a specific job. You basically have to kill it once for each AF gloves you want.

If it's any consolation, the PT only has to kill it once, and then every member can get shadow flame at the same time.

I see. In that case I assume that because I have AF gloves flagged for thf and not rdm, that I shouldn't open any of my other rdm coffers yet, either (got garlaige key last night, only oztroja left).

Semi off-topic, but my thf died 3 times last night opening monastic cavern coffer (if the region on rag becomes beastmen-controlled this sunday, you know who to blame )

1. Ran in front of Orcish Warlord, not knowing he was an NM and would pwn my invis.
2. (Too cheap to buy more expensive keys so I bought a stack of thief's tools) fail fail fail mimic ...
3. Fail fail [get aggro'ed, spam /item "Thief's Tools" <t> macro] fail succeed get key item die.

Fun, my thf is at 2.5k exp or so now :spin: LS did dark spark twice today but both times I was busy and couldn't join ... Finally got lvl 56 on rdm, so I want to hurry up and get my AF gloves and pants to match my boots and Royal Knight's Aketon (IMO this armor looks even better than Warlock Tabard ).

I am reading this information now. So far it states that if you got 2 AF quests, the coffer will give you the AF piece for that job which opened the coffer. Hence if you have both Thief and Rdm AF quest flagged, and you go as thf, it will give you Thf piece. If you go as rdm it will give you rdm piece. I am still reading till it gets to a definate answer... but the post has 1000 replies... will take some time to finish reading :sweat:

The problem is that you cannot have the gloves AF quest flagged (and not completed) for two or more jobs. With it flagged for thf, I had to finish off and get my thf AF gloves before I could get it flagged for rdm.

Of course, it's always possible that other rdm coffers would still give me my AF with quest flagged for thf, but I wasn't willing to take the chance and waste a coffer key

Oh, so anyway I fought dark spark twice, and got my thf and rdm AF gloves Going to garlaige now to get my pants ~
