  • RDM as main healer

A friend and I are starting a static party where I may end up becoming the main healer (RDM/WHM). He will be BRD/WHM.

I understand that this is possible, but does anyone have any tips? Any specific equipment I should look into buying? I'm thinking of a pair of astral rings at the moment.

    I am currently Lv13.

I suggest you get equipment that boosts MP and MND.
I got Saintly rings (+2 MND), Friar's Rope (is that was it is..), and a justice badge (+3MND).
Also, get a hairpin. Bronze will suit you well, until you get a silver one.

Also what i recomend for getting +INT and +Mnd..have a club in your inventory for when you will be healing and casting ....not meleeing......Williow Wand is +2 INT and +2 MIND....while Yew Wand gives you +3 INT and +3 MIND.....im a lvl 21 rdm...my mind is at 25+8 ( +3 Wand, +3 Justice Badge, +1 Friars Rope, +1 Mind Ring )

Rdm/Whm are possible to become the main healer with another sub-healer helping them out. For equipment, wear as much +mp and +mnd as possible. Pretty important, and remember spells come first, groups don't always want a rdm as a main healer all the time, they think of a rdm with dispel and refresh later on, but you don't need to worry about that at lvl 13. Goodluck!

I heal in every battle, and when in a battle, I use rose wand +1, which is +6 INT and +6 MND, together with TMC INT & MND +1, Red Cape +2 +2, Royal Knight's Belt +2 +2, and finally an apple pie.

I am 36 and I am still usually main healer in groups....most of the time only healer heh. It works, but...unless your a taru I would advise against it.

from 60-65 ive been the main healer in groups then I have been a backup. Personally in a area you are comfertble w/ everyones abilites to the point at which you are almost 100% sure you will not die I think the best thing to go with is to have Tank, DMG, DMG, RDM/WHM, BLM/WHM, BRD/WHM this should allow for more then enough healing.

Eremite's Wand is what I'm currently using whenever my Sword skill is maxed for the current level. +5 MP, +2 INT, +2 MND, 25% less cast interruption. And it doesn't cost a fortune, either! ^^ I plan on using it at least until I can afford a Chestnut Wand, or whatever the +4/+4 Wand is.

Don't forget to level up your Sword skill, though, when you get the chance. ^^ You'll probably be kicking yourself one day in the future if you haven't leveled up Sword at all and you need to farm/solo/hunt. ^^

LOL, I can imagine someone with 0 in sword skills, and then they get their AF1.

They'd probably be like, "What the HECK do I do with this?"

I've been in a fair few parties with 2xRDM 0xWHM in the 50s. Usually I'm the guy with the higher MP because that's what my equipment is geared towards, so the other RDM always asks me to be the main healer in such cases, but generally speaking we don't run into trouble. I don't concentrate on MND so much, because my sub is always BLM and I tend to eat pies, thus giving me a heavy INT bias, but I still have a slightly + stat for MND.

One problem with rdm healer is ... no teleport!

Last night was in a pld mnk rng thf ... rdm rdm party I was main healer, so put on my int/mnd/mp wand and just heal ... party was ok, have high damagers so there wasn't really any downtime, ate roast mushroom instead of melon pie.

The shitty part of the party was after it ended we were like 'urm ok how are we going to get back' :spin: ended up having to sneak/invis from terrigan all the way to rabao

This topic is just what i was looking for. I am also starting a static party, starting at lvl 30 with the following

                          BLM/WHM
                          BRD/WHM
                          Paly/War
                          Sami/Thf 0r War (depends)
                          RDM/WHM
Gotta find drg or drk, but thats ez.

So with the RDM/WHM can we do it, just as well as a whm pt?

My red mage is up to 30 and I'm frequently main healer. It works well except for a few things...

                            - no Raise (until level 38)
                            - no Curaga (until level 32)
                            - No group Shell (until 34) / Protect II

The lack of Curaga has been the main downside; we have a lot of downtime killing mobs with AEs (goblins, etc.) as I have to cure everyone individually.
