  • So what exactly did they do to my class?

Last time I seriously played this game the promyvions had just been released and people were racking up the price on all lv.30 gear. I used to do sky and HNM's all day and enjoyed being the most destructive class in the game.

So what the fuck happened to us? I'm going to start playing again since I finally picked up FFXII and just got so nostalgic over the time I used to spend on FFXI. So I hear our damage no longer blows everyone else out of the water and even spending loads of gil on expensive ammo/top notch gear, other classes can now match our damage output? That is so fucked up if that's true lol. Distance now affects damage as well? So no more ridill + kraken club TP spam?

Er, it's called balancing. Nothing more sinister than that.

So you're mad about not being overpowered anymore? The other classes still have to spend tons of gil, and put in a lot of time and effort in order to gear themselves up and develop the skill to play their jobs to their maximum potential. It's not like ammo is going to cause you to go broke if you have a ranger at 75 either.

I would just like to know if a ranger's DPS is now equal to that of any other pure DD class. If so, yes it wouldn't be logical for this since rangers spend gil on ammo. Essentially, we're tossing money at enemies in order to damage them. Thus, we should have some kind of advantage compared to classes that just spend gil on gear, weapons, food, etc since we do that as well. Do I think other classes should've been more competitive with rangers? Why not, I definetly believe in that. But for other classes to be matching our damage? On certain mobs perhaps, but not on an average number.

Ranger is still king in aspects of the game. I love having one or even two when going through a craig for promy. If you don't want to spend the gil on the ammo, perhaps woodworking could be a help if you can get into crafting. I have even supplied a broke ranger with ammo to do promy with since I could craft the ammo cheaply and I wanted them to come with my pt.

Way back when, our damage was lessened and it took some getting used to. Then the 2 hander buff came out and our damage started to pail in comparison. Then came velocity shot and all was well with the world. Get a good bow, pop velocity shot, sub war for zerk and stand outside melee range and your damage will be just fine. Last I played I could still pop huge numbers. (hit a sidewinder for over 2k on a dynamis mob before I quit). Its nolonger "OMG throw rngs at it" but we're still quite useful and do great damage. Don't worry too much about it, the job is still a lot of fun to play.

What about end game now? With so many different names for the activities I'm completely confused. Where does everyone hang out at in game now? Jueno reminds me of Buburimi Peninsula now.

Re: So what exactly did they do to my class?

I only gear as RNG in certain situations:
                1. Kited fight
                2. Fights that staying out of AoE range is a benefit.

If I can mitigate damage fine as melee, I probably go as SAM or BLU.

As for endgame usage of RNG:
Limbus - I don't use RNG on any zone farming. My group usually run with 1 1/2 PT max per zone. So Melee/NIN is my preference here, since they can tank well too. For Omega and Ultima, however, I prefer RNG. Simply standing out of range = better mp conservation for mages. Though our unbuffed accuracy can still be iffy on these 2 monsters.
Salvage - situational, RNG can be a good DD on Chariots. But need to keep in mind feeding TP on chariot also can fire back at your group
Einherjar - RNG is so so here. Like Dynamis, 1 mob can drop pretty quick here. You may not utilize 'attacking from distance' too much here
ZNM - This is the only event I do that makes me feels good that I leveled RNG. There are so many kited fight/ standing out of AoE range is a plus.
                Thanks,
                Vrytreya
