  • AFv1 set worth carrying around?

    Since I'm still wearing the head piece (I'm 56), when I checked out my AF from storage NPC I just carry the whole set with me. The only use for them right now
    - switch in the hands for shadow bind
    - switch in the legs for sharpshot

    I'll switch my head piece to something better soon like the war barret and that cute bone looking skull. ... Now, I'm curious if the bonus provided by the 2 pieces I mentioned above are good enough to worth spending more space carrying them around : / ?

    The hands are useless in EXP until you can upgrade to the +1, imo. For Ballista or soloing, the extra Shadowbind time would be nice, but it's a pretty crappy piece.

    The pants should be carried around for Sharpshot, and the +5 MND is nice when shooting holy bolts. The hat is one of the best head pieces for RNG, as far as I can tell, until you start going for +STR or you need +racc.

    And of course, the body has a nice amount of +racc... if only I could get that damn key to drop.

      oh yea the bosy @@ That too will be replaced with osode tho.

      Another thing. I'm at Lesser Colibri camp right now. To prevent them from flying around I'm shooting from close range. Doing 120-125 each shot. Compare to shooting from 9-11 range, I also am doing the same damage.... 120-125 @_@;; Am I right about the best range... 9-10 for bows, 6-7 for crossbow?

        Re: AFv1 set worth carrying around?

        I currently use Head Body and Feet AF.

        Hunter's Socks just because the stat on Jaridah feet don't warrant the inventory space and I'm about to move into War Boots anyway.

        Hunter's Beret I still use, but I have an O-Hat waiting for me. I'll probably still use the beret for WS macros until I have a nice STR/Attack build. Wyvern Helm otherwise and hopefully one day Scout's Beret.

        AF Hands - Pretty much only good for Shadowbind. Both RNG and CORs hand pieces are swiftly obseleted by Deadeye Gloves, which can more than hold you over until Seiryu's kote or Crimson Gauntlets. Puhluwhan hands (w/e I'm not gonna try to spell it) give some ranged attack and ranged accuracy as well.

        Hunter's Bracce - Good for Holy bolts and sharpshot, If I'm using holy bolts in PT, I'll leave the Jaridah Salvars off and wear these. Dusk Trousers look nice, but only for accuracy, I couldn't consider them a replacement since it reduces movement speed. I haven't looked in the leg pieces much otherwise. Bracce is a keeper for now.

        Hunter's Jerkin - nothing beats its save for Kyudogi, Osode and the Puluhwan Body from Assault. Shikaree Aketon is also something worth looking into since it its the only other body piece I'm aware of besides Kyudogi that gives Ranged Attack. I want it and I'll get it if I have to live in Sacarium forever! RNG mobs wouldn't drop it at all last run I did ; ;

          For legs I'm planning to get paluwa weeds. err seraweeds, something weed w/e. It adds 3 str and some little ranged accuracy too. Looks pretty neat imo. I just started joining mamool ja assault shouts after I looked into this piece a few days ago, got 6k points into the assault now.

          Well I might get Yigit hands first tho >.> Since it will benefit both my Blm and Rdm. So that's 36k more points to farm for mamool ja assault....

            Hmm more question about gears. It is like other jobs where you use R.attack for normal shots and STR for WS? I've been checking for leg piece, and the 2 that really stand out are
            - Taru feet level 62 RSE gives 3 strength.
            - AFv2 gives 10 R.attack. <-- this will be hard to come by tho.

            Taru feet RSE is the best strength boost for sideslug I can get in that slot I think , or am I missing something else o_O;

              I haven't really played with STR in macros to present. And since Sidewinder/Slugshot have a good chance of missing without accuracy gear on, I generally gear in favor of that right now.

              I'm about to ding 70, though, so a bit could change when I get the last accuracy trait and my O Hat on.

                Re: AFv1 set worth carrying around?

                I really don't change gear for ws atm. Like bbqkitten said, I'd rather have the extra ranged accuracy to help with landing slugwinder.
                I'm sticking with af head until O.hat as well. Legs I use for sharpshot with bow, and full time with xbow. Hands, I'm using Jaridah hands, don't have the money for deadeye gloves atm and static doesn't give me time to farm for them. May have to do the ISNM at some point and pray for a drop. Plus, I'm not a fan of the slow on them, since I usually build tp in melee range and drop to just outside it for ws's and barrage. (From what I can tell, Jei, as long as you're outside melee range damage and accuracy aren't affected, is everyone else having the same experiences?)
                Dusk trousers are nice, but I'm doubting I'll have the gil available when the time to use them comes around. I'll get them if I can, but they'll be replaced by Scout's Braccae at some point. Been using Hunter's socks still too, since they're really isn't much of anything thats more useful atm. Eventually be replaced with maybe war boots, and eventually scout's socks.

                  I use the taru rse feet. It's a great piece, most other rng get rutter sabatons for 3 str. Taru get the 4 str and 35hp instead. If you can get the af2 feet those are nice also.

                  also, a lot of people miss the archer's jupon. i think this is the best dd body piece around if you do not already have an osode (like myself).

                  the stats are 5str, 10rng atk, -10rng acc.
                  that -10 rng acc might be tough to get over at first but considering how much rng acc more rangers tack on pre-75 and with sushi... its a pretty meager loss.

                  for dd, str and rng attack are always the first things i go for. then rng acc, then agi.

                  get those rse feet if you can jei. its good stuff.
