  • Is RNG worth it?

Im probably gonna do my6 RNG quest here soon, but I just wanted to know if RNG was worth it or not? Is it a fun job. I mean... I guess it could help with farming stuff like NM with widescan. But really also, is this a really expensive job? Im gonna be a RNG/THF so I can make some extra money. But anyways...

    Re: Is RNG worth it?

Ranger at start is almost no better then any other job and WAR or DRK could do much what a RNG can. RNG gets it's benefits mostly from the right gear that's generally more RNG specific and weapons that are also RNG specific.

Ranger is a requirement to have as Main or Sub if you want to use Archery and Marksmanship WSs. The /THF adds little benefit party wise though, this is kind of like mixing oil and water.

Reason being is that RNG in order to get good ranged damage has to be at a distance, were as THF has to be close. Sneak Attack does not work on ranged attacks, Trick Attack does not work on ranged attacks. Sneak and Trick Attack are THFs main functions.

Choosing RNG/THF is only good for farming, and with the bonuses like Gil Finder and Treasure Hunter are only benefitical against the right monsters. For an EXP party both Gilfinder and Treasure Hunter is of little use. In effect all that /THF will give you in an EXP party is +1 AGI and +2 DEX.

For RNGs the better sub choices for EXP parties are WAR, NIN, DRK, BST, and SAM. The common choices are WAR and NIN. These two because of their benefits with RNG/WAR being the greatest in dealing damage, RNG/NIN being the greatest in accuracy (Both conditions requiring either the appropriate equipment or ability along with food). Both RNG/WAR and RNG/NIN are capable of being nearly equally effective when gear/ability and food is used in cross-over or balancing focus.

Outside of what I just stated if you do choose RNG/THF then your ranged attacks and accuracy you can expect to see this happen:

    Barrage:
RNG/THF 250-400 (Accuracy equivallent to WAR, Attack worse then WAR)
RNG/NIN 300-500 (Accuracy better then WAR, Attack worse then WAR)
    RNG/WAR 250-800

    Sidewinder:
    RNG/THF 350-650 (7/10 hits, 2,450-4,550)
    RNG/NIN 350-650 (8/10 hits, 2,800-5,200)
    RNG/WAR 450-800 (7/10 hits, 2,450-5,600)

    Per Shot:
    RNG/THF 40-60 (70/100 hits, 2,800-4,200)
    RNG/NIN 40-60 (85/100 hits, 3,400-5,100)
    RNG/WAR 60-80 (70/100 hits, 4,200-5,600)

That was only considering WAR (Berserk) and NIN (Trailer's Kukri) which allows the two to exceed most other subs in those areas in different ways. If you add in Sushi /WAR and /THF hits about 85/100, and /NIN hits about 94/100.

Add in Food items then the damage for WAR starts to really pull away in particular to Sidewinder with the right EXP mobs starting to reach 1,500 EXP and higher if you add in Warcry RNG/WAR gets at later levels. Beating RNG/WAR and RNG/NIN in efficency of damage is quite tough.

Alright thnx man, yeah I thought RNG might be kinda tough in the begining. But once I get higher lvls and my widescan gets better I think it'll be a lot of fun.
