I actually did at first after the change. Being RNG/WAR when I got the range and all down right I let go a Sidewinder of 1,500 damage on a mob we were fighting, never heard complaints after that. All I heard was 1 player make the comment "RNG got nerf'd? How did you get excluded."
Don't know if you ever used your compass to range, but the mob you are fighting set in the middle of the radii of the compass. Adjust back and forward from there a little does appear to help accuracy (or for me at least it does).
Cheezy Test Result (I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!)
Here is a good alternative craft for RNG: Cooking.
I make a LOT of gil at 80 cooking, and my wares always sell very fast. I make a stack of yellow curry when i need 1-2, and by the end of the day, I'm 100-200k richer. Plus, sushi. Since it's a consumables-only craft, your popular items sell very quickly (au laits, yag drinks, yellow curry, etc)
Woodworking is really nice, but due to recent patches you almost need to have Alchemy and Smithing, Goldsmithing and Bonecraft leveled to an extent to make it effective.

Really, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." The answer is "Because."

A subjob is like sex, you shouldn't have it untill your 18 but if you don't have it after 21 everyone laughs at you.
Well I have been leveling Woodworking for arrows. Not so bad really, I leveled Goldsmithing and will continue that so I can create elemental staves, picked up blacksmithing for iron arrowheads, since on Asura no one was selling those. Leveling woodworkign through arrows, was reletively cost effective though. Goldsmithing has become my gil/money pit.
If you are a budding Ranger with no other jobs say above 60, I highly recomend you stay away from goldsmithing. To expensive to do, even after the inflated xmas we just had, still spendy.
Depends on how far you plan to take goldsmithing... I took goldsmithing to 33 and I made profit on every stage of skillups I've done. Some stuff took a while to sell (thief's tools), but yeah. Ran out of fire crystals from levelling, so I took a break. Going for bonecraft now.
At low levels, seeing optimal skillups paths isn't that hard. You just have to be really smart about your money. I took a while to convince someone that making grass thread from lightning crystals -> moko grass was NOT worth the lightning crystal even if you farmed the crystal and harvested the grass. That person was not very smart about money. Even if I farm something, I still count that as a cost because I *could* have made xxx gil selling it on the AH.
Time is money too. If I spend xx hours farming a bunch of stuff, I *could* have been desynthing and synthing other profit stuff to make more money.
