  • Woodworking. How is it done?

I have just become a ranger. And i love it.
But upon reading about how expensive it is beore hand, i would like to craft my own arrrows.
But that is the first problem. I do not have a CLUE what to do. No seriously.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how i can go about doing this. Also if you have any tips, please share them. Thanks in advance.

but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Thanks for that. That was useful, but i am unsure how to get started, thats the problem. I can rely on that when i am actually crafting.
Where is the guild for woodworking? How do you level up your skill? etc, these ar what i need. Thanks.

Guild is in San'Doria, not sure which part though...

Skillups come from synthing, as you synthe you willl gain skill, just like using a weapon, or anything else. The more its done, the higher it will go, to a cap like everything else

Thanks. Would the skill for woodworking only go up when you syn wood based?

I can't read the link that was posted, so forgive me if some of this is redundant:

Woodworking guild is in North Sandy, the northwest corner, right by the odd wooden platform that is perpetually being built. Basically, just join the guild (its free and you get a crystal), buy or farm your supplies and crystals, and start crafting. NPCs at the guild can give you recipes, but its better to use one of the many lists on the net. To get your skill up, pick a recipe that is higher than your current level, but not too high. As you craft, you'll get an occasional rise in skill, just like you would get a weapon skill increase just from attacking a monster.

            Some advice for skilling up:
            1. Always get advanced synth support. It's worth it every time.
            2. Pay attention to what day it is and know what days are best for what crystals.
            3. Pay attention to the direction you are sitting in when you craft. Each direction has an element that goes with it, that makes for better synthing if you face that direction. For instance, if I'm skilling up using earth crystals, I face south.
4 Be patient. There are slow patches to leveling any craft - times when you won't seem to get any skillups at all, and ingredients will cost you a lot.

              Thanks for that.
I am unsure what you mean by-advanced synth support? what is it?
Did some research on the synth, didn't find anything on the direction thing. Thanks for that!

                rng really isnt that expensive

regular farming can handle the cost of arrows, the most expensive things on a rng are gear and food, but like most other jobs it isnt that much different , i cant really see y its said to be that expensive . i worked out the cost of ninja and its prices exceed rng by far so dont worry about woodworking unless your really cheap

Imagine being able to HQ bows, crossbows, arrows, and shihei. Insteado of paying for a full stack, it's like paying for 2/3 or 1/3 of a stack. Imagine that stacked w/ normal farming. O_o

Everyone who doesn't do woodworking thinks its some amazing godsend way to save gil on Ranger or Ninja.

To a certain extent, it's true, you CAN make some types of ammo for less than you can buy them at AH. But the cost and time investment to get beyond 59 woodworking is quite high. Also note that there is no practical difference between Woodworking 59 and Woodworking 89, as far as ammo costs are concerned. Demon arrows cost more to make than to buy, and the HQ rate on Scorpion Arrows doesn't increase in any significant way until level 90.

I whored my friend's char for his woodworking as I leveled rng, he was 60ww. It was nice, paying 1~2k for a stack of 4k ammo... but for an entire stack of ammo at merely 4k, when I was used to paying insane amounts for bullets, I had no desire to lvl it for myself once he actually cancelled the character. Maybe if it's your very first job, and saving 2k a stack of ammo is really beneficial, but meh, its not like it makes rng cost nothing.

that's right. When I play ranger it's more about feeling good to make my own arrow/bolts. I usually makes bolts, holy/acid bolts are useful all the way to high level and only requires 15 woodworking skill. It takes some time to gather resources tho so like 50/50 i'll be buying from AH straight away too.

Re: Woodworking. How is it done?

The other nice thing about having high woodworking though is that at any time,
you can simply go and make the ammo you want/need, as opposed to being subjected to the mercy (if it even has any) of the Auction House.

This is especially important I think for Demon Arrows and Kabura Arrows, which might not always be plentiful on AH. If they're cheaper to buy, go for it, but I still think it's nice being able to make your own ammo at any time, especially in the field. Though synthing ammo in the field since that last patch added more quivers isn't as handy as it once was.

I realize this post is nearly a year old, but I don't believe the cap of 16 on status (read: Holy) bolts has changed in that period of time. Likewise, 51-tier on those synths being reached at 67 has remained constant. 59 Woodworking gives you 31-tier only.
