  • Equipment setup all wrong?

Ok my equipment is as follows as a lvl 60 rng/nin

    Hawkers x2
    Hunters beret
    Hunters jerkin
    Noct gloves/AF gloves
    AF pants
    Hunters socks
    Genin earring
    Drone earring
    2x Scorp rings
    ranger necklace
    R.K belt+2
    Musk+1 + silver bullets/ Warbow + lvl 60 arrows (forget name =/)

    And heres the situation.
At lvl 59 i went to Onzonzo to fight torama and manticore in a ranger pt,
    rngx3 pld whm brd
All 3 rangers equipment was identical, one rng started using Ebow but decided to switch to gun later for reasons unknown.
The only difference was 1 rng was galka the other was elvaan and i was hume and they were lvl 61 so had amemit mantle.

Per hit me and the galka were doing an average of 115 the elvaan around 116-117 slugs were random due to different tp amounts etc... but averaged around 690 from all 3 rng.
We were all on squid sushi and had brd so we very rarely missed our slugs even me on torama at a lower lvl.

During the party i wanted to see how much i could get my damage up too without changing food.
My acc was pretty good so i thought i would swap out my hunters jerking for my shikaree aketon... +7 ranged attack.... Nada
damage didnt even go up slightly, normal ranged attack, slug shot....Nada.. i would of been happy with +1 or +2 damage per shot atleast i would of known it made a difference after working hard to get it.

So fair enough maybe i didnt raise it high enough to notice a difference So seeing that ozonzo was under sandorian control and me being sandorian i swapped out my hunters pants for repubic greaves... another +7 ranged attack, still nothing.

So theres a limit to how much ranged attack i can have?
If so does the same apply to ranged acc?
all my equip together gives me about + 52 ranged acc
and about + 10 ranged attack, if ranged attack is capped already
does that mean my ranged acc was capped a long time ago?
Can i afford to lose some of my ranged acc equip and not notice a difference?

I'm just a bit confused about it all, could someone clear it up for me and give me a few pointers.
    thanks.

I hit this damage wall in the upper 50's as well. RATT just doesn't seem to do anything after a certain point. I can wear Amemit mantle, hit for 117, take it off and put on federation mantle (AGI+2) and still hit for 117. I can take off my AF hat and wear my Emp pin, and still hit for 117. :/ Chances are, the other rangers are wearing RATT stuff w/o really realizing that it's not helping them. There's also really nothing that great to wear instead.

You could try boosting STR (2 points of STR for 1 point of damage) but there's really no point. The only thing I've found to boost my damage any more is to go /war and use berserk. Then I see some mad damage numbers, but I also get a lot more hate, lol. Not worth it IMO.

Stack up on AGI and RACC. Post 70, consider boosting STR. You've hit your damage cap, bro. Congrats. :spin:

Edit: Oh, and as for capping RACC -- I've heard that you can only ever get to 94-96% accuracy. If you parse, and you're at that mark, all you can do is boost AGI for WS, really.

Range Attack in a way gets negated by mobs that are IT++ to you or have very strong defense. If you fought VT-IT mobs in an exp situation you would notice some increase.

This is the reason that e-bow is a great xp bow post level 70 but doesn't perform as well against Gods or HNM in comparison to guns or the other bows. The defense on these Mobs is so high that the range attack is nullified. Higher base damage weapons perfrom better in those situations.

This is also probably why the rng in your PT switched from e-bow to gun.

Try fighting toramas again at 63-64 and mess around with your range attack also, you might see different results.

Also consider how much increase in damage you see from yellow curry. It gives (i forget exactly) what, +5 or +6 Str and ~30% range attack increase? So that much of an increase in range attack gives only slightly more damage per shot than the +str bonus from the food gives.

I also found that the food you eat should be a concideration when chosing gears.

i.e. curry raises your ratk by a % so having more natural rng attack means your gonna get a bigger boost from the curry.

i.e. eat a curry shot a shot, take off your hunter's hat and shoota shot, for me it was 10 dmg per shot with curry at lvl 63..

        same with fran axe.

the problem is im 65 almost 66 now and the boy tree is the only place i can use curry and still land consistent sidewinders.

Well once you hit 66, shouldn't be as much of an issue unless you PT extensively in RNG heavy PT's where you either renkei Slugshot/Sidewinder -> Slugshot/Sidewinder or just simply spam Slugshot/Sidewinder, since you'll get Arching Arrow/Heavy Shot and can participate extensively in light renkeis. Arching/Heavy lands very consistently (MUCH more so than either slugshot or sidewinder).

That's a good point, thanks. My static generally goes to a new leveling area one or two levels before the recommended level, so we are fighting IT++ and higher pretty much all the time. No matter where we go, I always carry my AF hat and Amemet mantle so I can always check and see if the RATT is going to help. I'll talk to them tonight -- we may try camping someplace with VT-IT for a change to see if the overall exp is better (and I can test out RATT some more). Should be hitting 63 tonight - Fran Axe = woot.

              worse then that...

m,y rng friends are mad because i dont xp with them anymore.

I joined a static because my whm friend asked me a million times veer since lvl 30 to join his static of

bard, whm, drg, blm, pld, and me rng

the only problem is i told them no Light SCs after lvl 66 and they dont seem to care..

we are fighting dhamels in bibika bay now witht the strat of sushi and prelude makes me accurate even though we shouldnt be fighting these till level 67-68...

and the flood mp for 1300 combined with 900 sidewinders makes the dhamels die just as fast as gobs.

but.. the blm has to sub smn to have enough mp to last through the chains.

I wanna get outta this static, because i wanna eat curry and be with my rng friends, but the whm really needs me and is nice so i'll stay, he is trying to help his friend (the drg) reach lvl 70 since there is no way he could reach it w/o a pocket whm

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.
So what equipment changes do you suggest?
I was saving for trailers kukuri but im unsure if i should trade in my hawkers for them, the +2 agl on each knife seems like a good bonus.
And fransisca also, is there any point to this other than looks if its not gonna raise my ranger attck on IT++ mobs that i normally exp off?

I would skip the Trailer Kukri - the AGI on your Hawker is going to do more good than the extra RACC. I got to 63 last night and switched to Fran axe for a bit. I need to skill up axe before it will really be good, but I do recommend getting one. For one thing, I've noticed that my Hawkers will hit for 0 damage on exp mobs sometimes, so they aren't helping with TP gain when that happens. The axe hits harder, so it helps with that, and I didn't really notice a loss of RACC. Keep your Hawkers, if you find they're hitting for 0, equip the Fran.

Ranged attack works the same way as regular attack, It will not raise your Damage, but will make you hit higher in your damage range more often. If youve noticed during xp pties, ranger damage range does not vary much. Food/Brd songs effect your dmg in a different way than +ranged attack items. Basically, past 61, your amemit mantle, ranged weapon weapon and ranger necklace will cover the majority of the ranged attack you need, therefore you stack the rest of your gear for agility and ranged accuracy. As for Hawkers hitting for 0, I dont know why rangers melee, you should be shooting, not swinging. The exception to that is if your tank cannot keep hate, slow down your shooting rate a little, but for the most part, youre there to make the monster a pincushion, not poke him with your daggers.
