Tired of being weak, so......

After I get WHM to 75, I'm going to level RNG, just for the pure damage that they cause. I'll have All my subs leveled: NIN, WAR, THF, and SAM. I'll start farming/hunting for any/all equipment that I need, once my WHM hits 75. I want some imput from some experienced RNG's about the job.

So far, on my list I have big items like:
Leaping/Winged Boots (Can be camped)
Emperor's Hairpin (Can be camped)
Hawker's Knife (Can be synthed by guy in my ls.)
Fransisca (Know a friend that can get me this, hehe)
Amemet Mantle +1 (Leathercrafter in my LS, prolly easier to buy)
Euryto's Bow (Dear god....)
Peacock Charm (In a million years...)
Kriegsbell (Probably never get this, or Peacock charm, but what the hell, I can try.)

Minimal Stuff:
+1 Rings for R. Acc.
Ninja Tools
Arrows/Bullets
+1 Bows (Cheap ones)
+1 Guns (again, cheap ones)



Anything else that I should invest in? I'm willing to farm my ass off at 75. And I'm pretty sure I'll have help, since one of my friends wants to do rng too (He's a 61NIN in my set.) What equip should I buy other than what I have? And if anyone can, could you tell me which bows/guns/crossbows to use at certain levels. Thank you (in advance) for your time.

Just use X-Bow up to 52+ instead of Gun, it's more costeffective.

Also level Woodworking and Alchemy to 60 along with Smithing and Goldsmithing to 25. Then you can make your own ammo. Since you prolly need to make your own ammo sooner then later, on levi there's a shortage on Scorp arrows all day now... And no i don't pay 3k+ for a stack scorp arrows. And silver is too expensive for just random pop party....

I'm going to get all of my Guilds to at least 60, and take either Cloftcraft, or Goldsmithing to 100. Both are expensive I know, but I know a guy who did it, and it only took him about a month to get everything up, including farming. And yeah, I'm going to be using a gun after 70, cause I'm a cheapass sometimes. >_> But when it comes to my jobs that I take a real shining to, I like to pimp them out as much as humanly possible. Either by camping, farming, BCNMing, or whatever. Thank you for your reply, and I hope I can have some more helpful info soon. ^^

IMO cost cant be equated like that

bow cheap, xbow cheaper, and gun uber exspensive...

demons arrows 15k a stack

silver bullets 15k a stack

darksteel bolts 9k a stack

so yeah a xbow user using acids and holys he crafts only will prolly level a bit cheaper then the bow ranger using iron arrows at level 50...


but if your doing what it seems to me like most rangers want to do (maximize their performance) then ammo cost will be high no matter what weapon you chose.

i actually leveled from 61-63 using a gun cheaper then every bow user who uses demon arrows...


so gun = most exsepnsive isnt always the case.


i do agree that uber gears arnt needed, but i dont believe ammo should be skimped on, plp pay millions for 1 more agi here and their or 2 str here and their but wont up their ammo cost by a % for a more noticable difference in damage.

just makes no sense to me......

acid+holy bolts can do more damage than acid + darksteel, thats why most people use acid+holy.

darksteels are good for barrage+ws.

Past a certain point you do so much damage that you'll end up tanking alot of the time. If you get hit with utsusemi down (or not using nin sub) that costs a lot of mp to the whms. If using warbow+1 and scorp arrows draw hate from pld anyways, don't bother switching to gun or demon arrows since you're probably going to kill yourself and increase the downtime for the party anyways.

again, don't worry about the absolute top of the line stuff. most rangers die enough without all those +2 guns. ^^b

naw you dont need a must+2, i admitt its a status whore item, the lowered delay is only good for my hurt feelings when i think "dam cant this shoot any faster" and i know "dam it cant its the +2" but had it been a +1 i'd always wonder what that 20 or so less delay would feel like.

using a gun period is for status whores, post 61 ws damage from the gun is crap of all crap crap, swear i only still use it because no ebows have went up for sale at a reasonable price (last sold 7 mil, i bid 7.5, no good, IMO thats not reasonable)


1-30 bow
30-40 xbow
40-50 bow
50-63(where i am) i'd say bow and gun damage come dam close to each other concidering sidewinder hits for a good 100-200 more dmg) xbows get blown away.(bnut meh obow coming up very soon, we'll see where that one gets placed.

Hmm....I got my RNG to level 4 tonight. I'm taking a break from that to level NIN to 15 and War to 7. Doesn't seem too expensive at the moment, seeing as how I spent 20k on a bow, and a crossbow. I'm going to be able to do a BCNM soon, but I'll probably end up keeping Utsusemi: Ni for level 37NIN. I've been skilling X-bow more, I like it a lot better. But I guess I'll just have to level both somehow. I looked at the prices of bullets, I won't really use a gun until 70+ when you pretty much have to use it >_<. RNG is really fun, and I must have gotten from level 1-4 in like ten minutes last night. When I started leveling NIN it seemed really slow. But also, I was a NIN/WHM, to make things a bit faster. Just keep both bow and xbow capped and you'll be fine. When you get Piercing Arrow and Split Shot (weapon skills), you can use both for most Skillchains in an xp pt. So you won’t have to worry about messing up your Skillchain & you can keep both capped EZ.

i didnt bother with keeping my marksmanship leveled up at all until levle 65. by that time you can powerlevel it up so quickly i did 1-120 in sauromague the rest did in key hunts for ls members.

I solo'd RNG to 35. I went to Crawler's Nest for my first party as a RNG. On the first pull I linked some crawler's but after the raise things went really well. I ate Squid Sushi, used Crossbow and swapped between Acid and Holy bolts. I had a lot of fun, so different partying as a RNG at low level than PLD at 70. I'm hoping to have time to level it more, hopefully 40 by the weekend.

lol that link sotry is hilarious, i think every rng that didnt touch a crawler or play a pulling job before has had that same problem...


i started rng exactly one year from a week from tomorrow...lol

and back then hardly any NAs were rngs, so i'd get invites with the quickness unknown to all drgs....hence solo time was limited to late nights and JP hours.

Well, I had my first party with another RNG.

Rai(me) Elvaan started at level 36 and went to level 38.

Edita(the other RNG) Hume started at level 37 and went to level 39.

It was a lot of fun! Here is the parser data. I used Squid and Sole Sushi and at the end used Damhel Pie when range accuracy was no longer a concern.

make up was RNG/NIN x2 THF/NIN NIN/WAR BLM/WHM SMN/WHM. All were JP except for me and Grifter, the NIN/WAR.

Oh, for the most part I used Zamburak +1 with Acid and Holy Bolts, I switched to Bow only to cap it, and Edita used Bow.
