Difference between Taru RNG and Elv RNG worth fussing over?

Rugal, would you happen to remember the damage differences in melee and ranged when you did that parse? Or better yet, would you happen to have that parse still around? :p

I'm afraid I don't have those parses. For those, I looked at the actual FFXI parser program after every fight, because it has a convenient "average damage per fight" value for every team member, which refreshes after every fight. The summary (which is the part of parsing I save) doesn't have this feature. Also, since I was using the parsing program while actually fighting, I didn't have time to save it as I changed weapons (I have to restart the parser to reset all the values whenever I change weapons).

I was mainly interested because I'm staticing with 2 RNG friends (on my PLD), neither of who has axe skilled up. They're probably not rich enough to afford either Hawker's or Hawker's +1, so I wanted to see if a Archer's vs Fransisca could be extrapolated from your data.

In my opinion, for more casual ranger players, Fransisca + Archer's Knive may be the way to go, assuming both weapon skills are leveled sufficiently. You would only be losing 3 RNG ACC (as opposed to 5 relative to a Hawker+1). If you spammed ranged, you would probably do less damage with Fransisca. But casual players usually don't spam ranged (save cost on ammo, and get less aggro to survive more), allowing you to do more damage with melee. Yes, I realize that any damage is a means of getting aggro, but it is much easier to tread the thin line of aggro management with your PT tank while doing melee damage than ranged damage.

Also realize that I almost always fought IT++... Weapons with higher base damage like Fransisca shine more against weaker enemies (less defense). So in parties fighting VT and IT, Fransisca would probably widen the melee damage gap even farther.

This is mostly speculation so take it with a grain of salt. :sweat:

Hey Rugs. Post lvl 68, it gets really hard to find any hard mobs to get even 300+ chains let alone those chains w/ a 400 on the end. So you end up fighting alot more VT-IT stuff.

Specifically at the 73-75 range I've been fighting weapons in Shrine of Ru'Avitu up in sky and they are giving 90-110 base exp but we chain #6 consistantly we just tend to run out of mobs. We run between 2 camps doing a chain 6 at each camp, so the xp still flows at the 6k/hr rate.

Anyways. Fransisca definately hits pretty hard compared to hawker on these mobs. Its common to get 70+ hits as a taru and crit for 100 sometimes. Now, hellfire is hitting from 150-240 (depending on mob/acids) so its still insignificant compared to ranged but its way higher than the hawker hitting or 10-20. Of course you don't get many swings in when each mob lives about 45 sec. tops w/ a 3 rng PT. 4 rng can go on forever as many high exp chain # threads have shown.

But if you were in a single ranger PT and fighting VT stuff, the fransisca is a really good option to have, as melee damage will add up w/ the axe vs. hawker. And don't forget that extra 1 tp or w/e you get per axe hit lol.

I havn't been xp rng hardly at all. Still @ 18k to 75. Do nin more now, and still not often enough. Almost 62

I have yet to see a kriegsbeil on Midgard yet. I'll admit I never check the AH for it really though. Only 1 or 2 LS ever do the bcnm99 so it'll stay pretty rare if ever at this point. Steam Cleaner has been MIA for like a month now on Midgard so no Seiryu to get Kotes >_<

I thought they didn't cancel accounts completely for 3 months after deactivation? Has it been 3 months already?

i use must+2 exclusively if that makes any difference.

i mean with duel +1s i can fire slug at 100% tp.


oh i switched food from yello9w curry to sole sushi because it increase my attacks by almost the same ammount while adding a bunch of rng accuracy (an unconfirmed 30 rng acc.)

And I suppose you learned this from observation? I hope nobody believes you on this and tells every RNG on their LS to eat sushi instead because it gives almost the same ranged attack bonus as yellow curry and gives ranged accuracy as well. :dead:

I can't tell if you are being facetious or what, but why would a RNG eat Squid Sushi over Sole? Squid gives accuracy, DEX, and AGI, while Sole gives accuracy, DEX and STR. Given that with sushi, you will probably have excellent accuracy anyway, why not take the STR?

He probably said squid because it is thought that squid gives higher %rng acc increase than sole, which gives higher %attack increase. Iuno though. I've never seen anything w/ data on what the increase on rng acc is for either of these sushi. Just that it increases.

Well, it hasn't been 3 months yet, and honestly they don't delete your account after exactly 3 months (first time I took a break from FFXI I came back 4-5 months later and still had my characters), but what I meant is I already gave everything away. I would be a pretty worthless RNG or PLD without any equipment

I've heard about the Steam Cleaner problem... S-E has no plans to fix it? And is it a Midgard-only problem? That just seems pretty messed up... and quite a big problem for S-E to ignore.

I read somewhere that they're basically the same, except Sole gives DEX while Squid gives AGI, in which case Squid would be better. But I just looked it up again and it seems that you are right, so Sole would probably be a better choice.

i was using the sole for the str for my nin/rng

the site says the both give 14% melee accuracy and an unconfirmed amount of rng accuracy that has been speculated to be around (30 rng accuracy to an unknown cap)

I dunno how much rng accuracy it gives, but the dex and str or dex and agi is very nice, the HP boost dont hurt either...

I have both kinds are nice but the sole sushi is great concidering i have +20 agi already w/o food at level 60, and only +2 str (from belt)


i said squid because thats what i ate, and no sushi gives rng attack they are all for accuracy and rng accuracy w/ some boost to HP and a combo of dex str and agi.

but dont trust my observations of my status window go check the site or eat the food, in any case yellow curry will still always be better for rng attack.
