On the subject of rng needing HP....as a pld tank in a multi-rng PT i can say that HP is very important to avoid deaths. For those that have never been in a multi rng PT with access to side/slug, il provide an example of a fight in which HP matters.

One scenario: pld rng rng rng rdm brd
Rng1 pulls---pld voke+flash then start curing whenever possible, voke every 30, flash every 36---rng2+3 start shooting---Rng 1 side->barrage->side(solid hate...all pld JAs at once usually wont get hate off 5k dmg from this)---pld uses cover---rng2 slug and miss(barrage down from earlier chain)---rng3 slug and miss(barrage down from earlier chain)---cover wears off with the mob at 30% HP---rng gets pounded on for ~200 dmg a hit, ~500 dmg WS and occasional double attacks<---at this point, the HP matters a lot to staying alive. Being the main target of attacks wont allow you to get blink back up and the pld will have some JAs down from earlier in the chain. If one of the 2 missed slugs had hit it would have died safely, however, even with a 90% slug hit rate, now and then youll miss more than you plan to.

Rugal I have a question. When u were xping, did u have a initially have a blend of +HP equips, or did u macro swap them on when neccessary? I think its very possible for a taru to play ur playstyle. Using ur example, when u stated that ur trying to finish chain 5, and ur going all-out with sidewinder(slug)---> Barrage---> Sidewinder(slug), if u were a taru, wouldn't it be likely that a taru can macro swap most of their -hp equips and swap them with +hp equips? (example would be emperor hairpin). So the moment the healer sees that the taru rng successfully lands his 2nd sidewinder, they immedietly casts CureIII or something, and the taru would immedietly be in full hp with around extra 200~250hp buffer (since they would still have their shadow on). It would be a pain in the ass for a rng to own both RACC concentrated gear and +HP gear, but I guess a taru that wants to play a risk-taking huge xp gaining playstyle, this might be the only way

I don't use any -HP equipment (RNG AF girl scout hat is better than emp. hairpin). The sad fact is that there is no equipment equivalent to the +HP, +STR, -AGI difference between Galka and Taru. Sure, you can use some RSE, pigeon earrings, bomb queen ring, etc whenever you get aggro, but then you also dramatically lessen your damage dealing effectiveness (losing lots of rng acc and atk from your rings, AF, etc). This is bad as well since you're trying to kill the monster as fast as you can while you're getting hit on.

The best thing I can think of is to switch taru RSE for some of the crappier AF equipment.

          Let's compare:
          Taru RSE:
          Wonder Braccae (Legs) = Def: 12 HP: 21 STR: 1 VIT: 2 MND: 2
Wonder Clomps (Feet) = Def: 5 HP: 20 STR: 2
          Wonder Kaftan (Body) = Def: 18 HP: 36 STR: 1 VIT: 2 MND: 1
Wonder Mitts (Hands) = Def: 6 HP: 12 STR: 3

          RNG AF:
          Hunter's Braccae (Legs) = Def: 27 HP: 15 MND: 5
          Enhances Sharpshot Effect
          Hunter's Socks (Feet) = Def: 12 HP: 10 AGI: 4
          Enhances Scavenge Effect, Evasion: 5
          Hunter's Jerkin (Body) = Def: 41 HP: 20 VIT: 3
Enhances Camoflage Effect, Ranged Accuracy: 10
          Hunter's Bracers (Hands) = Def: 10 HP: 10 DEX: 3 Vs. Dark: 10
          Enhances Shadowbind Effect

          Noct+1:
          Noct Gloves +1 = Def: 6 Vs. Dark: 2
          Ranged Accuracy: 2
          Noct Brais +1 (Legs) = Def: 13 DEX: 2 Vs. Dark: 2
          Ranged Accuracy: 2

          RSE2:
          Creek Clomps (Feet) = Def: 9 HP: 35 MP: -35 STR: 4 VIT: 4 INT: -3
          Creek Mitts (Hands) = Def: 11 HP: 65 STR: 6 VIT: 2 AGI: -3

Before HNM items, a good mix of body equipment would be AF Body, Noct+1 Legs and Gloves (macro AF legs for sharpshot), and either AF feet or strider boots. The only Taru RSE that gives a decent amount of HP is the body (36 HP) and that is crap compared to 10 RNG ACC from AF body.

The minimal HP you gain from the other the RSE gloves and feet aren't even worth sacrificing 4 RNG ACC from noct+1 for personally, so the RSE feet might be the only decent switch.

RSE2 gloves and feet offer a nice alternative. The hands especially offer a sizable 65 HP and 6 STR, much better than 2 RNG ACC from Noct+1 in my opinion. Then again, RSE2 require level 62, and are generally rarer than AF and Noct+1.

But even when you factor RSE2 into the equation, it still doesn't make up for the 3-400 HP-for-9 AGI difference between Galka and Taru, so a Taru will still have to be careful. Does this make one race better than another? Nah, I don't think so. Tarus can still make great rangers. I just think they would have to be a bit more careful in some situations, like the scenario Clyde drew out.

well im still only 60 and i have a question....

why does everyone switch to hawkers and fran axe at 63???

i have a franny waiting for me at 63, but the more rng acc i have, the sooner i can let loose with slugshot...

I mean if i just max out rng accuracy to the limit couldnt i go at 100% on xp mobs??

or is it always inaccuracte at 100% no matter what your rng acc is.

because theres a lot more ranged acc gear than there is ranged attack gear

Yep.. thats why I go Kriegs + Fransisca during EXP right now. Dual wielding axes is cool too.. I love getting crits with them.

                    no that wasnt my point...

and kriegs is 20 mil on my server...

my point was ok, you gain 7 rng attack and only lose lets say 4 rng acc.(5 if you have a hakwers+1)

...but do you think the 7 rng attack makes more of a difference on your total dot, or wouldntr you think being able to let loose with slug/side a lil bit earlier could make it so your dot is greater then with a fran....

its just a thought, because im seriously debating not even using my fran axe cept when walking around jeuno for the looks.

yes.... because you can easily gain 50+ ranged acc from other gear, and theres hardly any ranged attack gear. double minuet and sushi and you'll hit slugs with musketeer gun almost all the time at 100% anyways, hell on flamingos the other day, I was using dual minuet and curry and still almost always hitting slugs with 100%tp, doing like 1300~1600 dmg

I did some testing along with Nsx about this very point. Back when meat mithkabobs still boosted rng atk, the difference in shot power between francisca+hawker+1 and 2x hawker+1 was miniscule... almost no difference at all to tell the truth. I don't know how it is now with sole sushi or whatever, but that's the case.

Now, I thought maybe the increased melee attack would make up for it, so I went in some skill up parties and capped my axe skill along with my dagger skill. Even though I spam ctrl+D to shoot as much as I can, I still get some melee hits in. So for one xp session I did fran + hawker+1 for 1.5 hours then 2 x hawker+1 for 1.5 hours and compared...

Lo and behold, I barely did more melee damage with axe, and did more ranged damage with 2 hawker. Ever since then I stuck with 2 x hawker+1.

I don't know how it is now with the lack of rng atk food, but that's what I found before. I figured the people used francisca because it's free (so they can sell their archer, hawker , or hawker+1 and get more money for other things, like dusk trousers or whatever).

in the end does it really matter? any PT or HNMLS will gladly accept you regardless of race. its all about your skill and knowledge.

Cool. Did you even read the thread? The countless posts where people have said race doesn't really matter? The only reason we are even discussing it is because the original poster asked. It's been stated a myriad of times that race isn't a big deal.

I just love people who make inane replies to threads without reading any of it.

cool then it's decided, i dont wanna look like every other ranger weaing a fran and hawkers.....

not only that i dont eat sushi, i eat yello curry and it boost my per hit dmg by 7-10 points per gun blast of the must+2.

i just feel another hawkers+1 is the more practical choice, i mean being able to realiably let loose a slug w/o worry that it will for sure miss seems way more practical then a status axe everyone wears because they assume its the better choice.

I know for fact rng attack barely does anything because i have republic pants and i couldnt tell you how much dmg they add because honestly i dont notice that they add any dmg.

i'm at 120 per shot on raptors at level 60, and i pretty much am always at that unless theres another rng to weaken deffense.
