Difference between Taru RNG and Elv RNG worth fussing over?

Might start RNG soon. Leaning toward Elv, since I already have NIN, THF, WAR levelled to 27, 35, 45, respectively. Taru only have WAR @ 17. Little guy would make a funny sight though, yeah?

I have a friend on my server that is a taru RNG and hes lvl 55 now and is AWESOME at it. He absolutely loves it.

race doesn't mean much. Its always the players skill and equip that determines how good they are. Just choose the race u like and stick with it.

I personally like elvaan rng just cause they look so f*ing awesome holding xbow or gun :sweat:

Taru works just fine as rng. I'm a currently a 72 taru rng myself. Its definately the "cute" way to go.

That being said, Elvaan will hit a whole lot harder than a Taru. As far as accuracty goes, taru have good Agi, but the higher you get, the less it matters what race you are. At my level, there is so much ranged accuracy equip available that race means absolutely nothing as far as accuracy anymore. It all comes down to who damage. Elvaan is king of damage, taru is at the bottom of the pile.

Keep in mind you need to level the ninja job for a sub on the taru.

But yes. Taru is funny with the gun. Taru is funny w/ any mele e job. I prefer taru for the fun factor in that regard.

tarus wont do less damage then elvaans with marksmenship type weapons....their damage is very similar when compared at the end.

i'm only level 59 mithra ranger ATM, but tarus and elvaan alike make fine rngs.


BUT!!! if you ever wanna go rng/war for w/e reason i wouldnt go elvaan, elvaan ranger wars have horrible accuracy problems even at level 59-60.

the last elvaan rng/war i partied with had i dunno 3-3 mil in gear and hit maybe 50% of his sidewinders if that, and he didnt go less then 150% tp.

i'd also go taru because taru nins are the best at nuking with nin magics (the best way for a nin to keep hate) and leveling nin is a pain because its basically the opposite of the ranger job...ones a tank and ones a DD.

The problem with Taru is the fact that long pulls often = death.

Sub ninja and buy some strider boots and you might be ok ^_~ But in Crawlers Nest, i found myself dead before i get back to camp at level 38, with a NIN subjob and Utsusemi cast. It's pretty frustrating.

Taru does less than all other races damagewise per shot. EVEN with marksmanship weapons. I have a Hellfire +1 Amemit +1 etc. etc. and each gun shot I do is between 10 and 20 less than the Hume rng in my spt. That equates to WS as well.

Secondly, you need to get over your idea that mithra are some sort of miracle ranger. There is so much ranged accuracy gear that race makes NO DIFFERENCE once you get up high enough. Equipment is >>>>> race.

3rd. Nuking is not the best way for ninja to keep hate. Its just another tool you can use, and for that matter its not even useful til post lvl 40 when you get Ni spells. Elemental Ichi is junk.

hmm not a lot of ppl go rng/war anyways. Theres a recent thread where Rugal explained how a rng/war would be practical if u have a trust-worthy (good) pt. The reason y a lot of ppl sub nin is for dual wielding stat up daggers and having the ability to save ur ass if ur pulling too much hate. Utsusemi is basically ur shield, and if the mob turns to u without ur shadow on, ur f*cked

Taru nins are absolutely fine, u just have to watch out for deadly mob WS (sickle slash comes to mind)

both elvaans and tarus are good nins. Elvaan can hit harder to gain hate while a taru can spam the ni elemental spells (ichi ones suck) to hold hate. (Obviously the elvaan nins should be using ni elemental spells also)

true not many people go rng war past level 50, but you still see them sometimes, and 90% of the times they seem to be elvaan..

Kinda like the only rng/thfs i see are mithra.....

thats strange, elvaans would benefit the most from the nin sub for the increased AGI and dual wielding hawkers and other daggers. They might just be too lazy to lvl nin or something lol. They'll figure out on their own how much Utsusemi saves their ass

I guess its like mithras are more likely to level thf, and elvaans more likely to level war.

so besides the many exceptions most elvaans have war level,a nd most mithras have thf leveled...

soo the people i see w/o a nin sub 99.99999% of the time dont have nin leveled...so whats next...thf or war.


this is an obvious generalization, but its true alot of the times (false alot too)

i also see elvaan rng/nin using rng attack food that doesnt raise their attack like it would a taru or mithra due to attack caps, so those guys should be using rng accuracy food IMO.

especially when i cant SC worth anything off you because you miss your side/slug too much.

Not to start a flame war but I would prefer an elvaan rng a lot more so than taru, Ive pted with elvaan and taru rng plenty of times, with basically same equips, whatever the name is of those +14 acc. knives, muskateer gun+1, and silver bullets, etc. Taru rng did about 600 slug average where elvaan did maybe 900 as average slug, plus a difference of like 14 damage per hit more on the elvaans ranged attacks

well i find that impossible to believe because marsk ws damage is based on agi not str....


so maybe per normal shot the elvaan outdamaged the taru...

but no way on WS damage, its not possible sorry maybe you were seeing something else.
