Could some one help a newbie?

i was thinking about making a ranger thats why im here lol

i was thinking Thief / Red Mage = Ranger. i was woundering if any one has tryed this and did it work out well for them.

and i was planing on just using a gun is that a good idea?

red mage was my first ever job, stopped at like 15, then leveled thf to about 15, never tried combining the two once, i mean just try it in your mog house, take a look at your stats, then put on a glove so it doesnt hurt so much when you slap yourself for thinking for the lame idea in the first place.

I'd level warrior, bottom line every ranger is gonna have to level warrior, so you might as well get it over with at the start.

Or you get jobs like mine ..

blm 55, rdm, 40, warrior 18, ninja 29, ranger 56

I mean all that mage leveling cost me alot of gil and wasted a whole bunch of my time, i could be 63 ranger right now with fran axe...

just level mnk to 18, warrior to 3o, then go unlock ninja, dont even unlock ranger, the job is to fun and addicting to stop once you start, level ninja to 37 if you can hold out that long, 30 if you cAnt.

only since march....i was the biggest n00b in exsistence too.....

I always knew i wanted to be a ranger, even picked mithra as my race because the lame ghuide said mtihra are the best rangers... (witch is debatable)

then i go and chose red mage as my first job, knowing dam well i cant sub red to rng...lol

then i got tired of always leveling a sub, i mean your first time from 1-30 will take longer thenj 3 morte times put together, but once you got the flow down your good to go.


just one bit of advice, dont join a party unless you have some time to stick it out with that party.

I made the mistake of joining parties for an hour then taking a 10 min w/e break then trtying to find another party....just stick it out and xp rolls in.

why not go munk / Ninja - Ranger? or why ninja at all why not just theif/Munk - Ranger? lol
and do you have a pic of your ranger?

and can you Dual Wield a sword and a gun?

Ninja is an adv job. you'd need another job to lvl 30 before subbing it. Thf/Mnk is a very solid combo, using H2H up until 33. If your just looking to take something to 30 for Ranger though, take War, you'll need it either as your Subjob or the Sub of your Subjob.

And no, you can't dual wield like that. Gun is a ranged weapon, its in a totally different slot then your melee weapons.

^^ im at work, so had to steal this from an old thread thats literally 5 months old...

I only say that because way back then there were tons of choices a ranger could make as far as body gear goes, and there was no nocts, or HQ cp gear, so my ranger in the pic doesnt look anything like it does now

ideally you'll want both War and Nin at 37 for subbing purposes.

You can do this...

Mnk -> 18 (get subjob item)

War/Mnk -> 37 (unlock Nin and Rng at lvl 30)

Nin/War -> 37

Rng -> 75

Note ranger is one of the most expensive classes in the game.

agreed, i havent been able to yet, but cant wait to fight something with low evasion so i can sub war and eat em up

Melee/mage combos usually suck, or vise versa. you'd be better off with WAR or MNK since thats all that you can choose from under lvl 30.

rng/whm will work till level 33 for sure, soloing worms...


but yeah melee/mage USUALLY isnt a good idea.

TARU RDM/NINS POST lvl 55 have tons of mp, more then a hume whm, and can still contribute to the dmg somewhat
