Gun or Bow - Better in the Long Run?

Hello, I can't decide which I want to use. Would the Gun or Bow be better overall as a Ranger. If its not too much trouble please say why you made your choice.

P.S. Would it be wise to do a lot of Bow/Gun using while I'm still a Warrior on my way to being a Ranger.

I would say bow.

some of my reasons:

-There is a more variety of bows to choose from
-It is -way- cheaper to use, guns are ridiculously expensive in the beginning
-arrows are quiverable , which means more arrows you can use during an xp pt

I would say wait until you lvl ranger to lvl up your skills, rangers skill up very fast anyways

I used bow 1-55 then i got slug shot and it averaged about 130+ damage then sidewinder. I started using gun but its dam expensive, cost about 100k+ for 10 stacks of bullets and i use more then that in most PTs if they last long. For the long run i would say stick with bow if you dont have the funds for gun.

Any good ranger knows that you need to level archery and marksmanship. None of this stupid either/or garbage.

Hello. For me was really hard to decide. I have lv 84 alchemy, i can make my own bullets for 6-8k per stack and had 5.3 million gil.

When I started to think about it, was hard to decide .....

1- Use the gil to level up alchemy to 100 and use guns all the way to 75.

or

2- Buy Eurytos Bow, level up with arrows and finally sell it for 90%-95% of the price at AH.

For me, those 5.3 Million are enough to level up to 75 using bullets even on rabbits: 5300000/8000 = 662.5 Stacks or 65587 bullets. But after spend those bullets, how much gil will I have then? The answer is 0.

I started to think in get the bow, level up to 67 with that, then switch to Othinus at 67. When I sell the bow will get back around 5 million and be able to level up alchemy to 100 anyway. The cost of level up with Scorpion/Demon from 55-67 will be 1,000,000 max, and after all that, will have gil to buy the +70 gear for ranger anyway.

The question is .... would you like to hear "Wow, see that damage"? Only guns can give you the wow effect. If you want the best damage over time, Eurytos bow + demon is the best.

I agree that you shouldn't limit yourself to one set of weapons. If money's not really an issue, you'll be using both sets to deal optimum dmg, imo:

12 - Hunter's Longbow - archery
16 - Power Bow +1 - archery
30 - Great Bow +1 - archery
34 - Serpentine Gun - marksmanship
40 - Battle Bow +1 - archery
50 - Musketeer Gun +2 - marksmanship
55 - Eurytos or stay with Musketeer Gun +2 - Debatable - either
67+ - Personal preference from Eurytos, Hellfire, Othinus, and maybe even Master Caster's Bow. - either

I am only level 42 rng, but i have used both guns and bows (serpintine gun at level 34)

I had marks capped when i was level 34, but noticed no increase in dot or big hits from barrage or WSs, so i switched right back to the +1 lvl 30 bow.

I currently use a battle bow+1 and it does great dmg, like 545 for a good barrage, 280 on a low barrage, and ablout 100-110 on IT++s

If i can get the gil for my ebow then i'll stick to bows the rest of the way, otherwise i'll be switching to bullets at lvl 50 for the rest of the way.


Oh and is there anything better then firing away spartan bullets with a nin tank, having the mob go absolutely no where, saving the tank tons of shihei and the wht mage practically all MP.

Seems alot of the really good stuff is just skyrocketing in price way past what its actually worth. Thing is, you woudln't lose $ on an ebow most likely.

So ridiculous. I borrowed an Ebow from a friend for lvl 55-67.
Gun isn't worth it til the Hellfire IMO. Ebow+PPA arrow WS is a good thing.

As for the original poster. Do both. Be versatile. Use x-bow and bow til gun at 70.

Thing about the E-bow (4 million just over a month ago and had reached 8.2 on Fairy last week). Price varies a LOT. Before it hit a low of about 3.5 million a month ago, it was at 6 and 7 million. But 5 ppl all put theirs up at the same time and it killed the price. For buying and selling it, just keep an eye on the price. Granted, is over 8 mill atm but in two weeks when some of the ppl who bought it cpl months ago hit 70 and switch to hellfire, well they may all sell it and it may bottom out again.

I like the variety of weaponry this class offers, and with this depending on my mood (and current gil funds) I could pick up whatever I felt like exping with today and go with it (^^)b

umm what are you gonna do when you hit level 40 though?? scorp arrows dont sell in quivers??? hrrmmm delima

yeah theres a reason why bullets dont quiver, because at the level where they are worth using, nothing quivers.

umm your a taru, go gun and max out your agi, marks dmg is directly related to agi alone.

if you were an elvaan i'd say leave the guns alone period and go bow all the way, even if you have to use a crap sarnga..

me myself, ima mithran, so i'll be using a war bow till level 55, and then i'll sepdn the next month farming a certain beast hardly anyone farms and i havent the slightest idea why...for my ebow, i refuse to go w/o it.

othinus bow, no thanx....ok IMO repeating crossbow is the only xbow worth getting, and not for xping, for cool factor.

xbows suck (yeah i know they dont and at times outdamage bows) but that gay noise they make is horrid, we already get a goofy lvl 75 set up of mix and match gear to max out rng acc and rng atk

we dont need a fruity sounding weapon too.
