  • The Main Issue: Money

What I wanna know, is did any fo you guys/girls that are high lvl rngs get to 30 and your first advanced job was rng?? I mean, I would have LOVED that, but the funds arnt there. Did you just go about getting money when you needed it?? Or did you stock pile it and then start?? I have 37k, plus atleast another 30-40k in armor/weapons that I could sell and start a RNG. But how far will that last me?? My lvl 10 bow+1 is 15k. then my lvl 16 bow is 20-25k. PLus I gotta buy arrows.

SO I guess the main question is, did you stockpile?? or collect as you went?? Cause i really wanna be a rng..

RNG was the first advanced class that I got, although I didn't play it until I leveled both WAR and THF to 25 (I took RDM to 30). I did get DRK and leveled it to 10, but stopped there. So, my highest job is still RDM sitting at 30, while my RNG is 28. I had absolutely no problem with the costs, as I have about 100k in cash right now, with about 250k in investments (not counting my gear), along with almost three full stacks of Horn quivers. The main thing I did to make money was play the market. Before I started RNG, I took woodworking to 49 (which costed me about 50k in initial investments), and saved up all the arrows.

            I'm beginning to save now.

I've farmed along the way as my Warrior, and I have a Whm who is mostly a mule for me. When I reach lvl 18, after getting my subjob I'm heading back to Bastok to re-equip and make lots of gil.

I'm going to send around 10000 gil to my mule character and have them garden. With 10000 gil put into gardening I could probably make about 25000 gil back in two weeks. I'm then going to invest half of that into gardening then make twice as much back, etc etc etc, so my profits keep doubling.

I should be a Ranger in 10-14 days anyhow, so I should have 15 000 gil waiting for me (if not a bit more from what I farm with my War) waiting for me when I get Ranger, which should be enough to get me going as a Ranger.

It seems to me ... that if you aspire to be Rng or Nin ... start planning/saving around lvl 15

I'm planning on working on RNG/NIN soon. Remember, you can never do enough preparing. My main job is WHM 52/26. At that level I have many options for making money. Probably the most common method used to raise RNG, is to raise another job beforehand. It just makes coming up with the cast much easier in the long run, in my opinion. However, it's not impossible to level up RNG right after you hit 30 with your first job. Just start making your preperations now.

Raising Woodworking is a good idea. I've been in the process of raising mine. I noticed someone previously said that saving the arrows was a good idea, and initially I had felt the same, and was going to turn all the arrows Iron Arrows and up into quivers, and hang on to them until I needed them. Recently though, I changed my mind on this matter, and decided, I would sell the arrows I make now, simply to break even with Woodworking. I'm planning on raising Woodworking to the level where I can make Scorpian Arrows, 59 I believe? The reason I changed my mind, is because at that high of a level, it is not hard to come up with exceptional results in woodworking while you're making arrows. Still, it's up to you to make that choice. I can see the benefits in saving arrows, since you won't have to worry about making them when you're at the appropriate level, and synthesizing can be a very tedious, time consuming process.

I went as RNG without other advanced jobs first. I just got clothcrafting to 12, wood and bone to 4 at least. From there creating a huge stock of wind crystals, earth crystals, yagudo feathers, bone chips, and arrowwood lumber was no problem. Made tons of bone arrows about 4k of them, then I just used them to hunt or farm with.

Worked out great, still got 12 quivers of Silver Arrows sitting in mog house and my mule characters are carrying about 3k - 4k of Scorpion arrows and other various ones I liked like Sleep Arrows.

Sometime soon though when this pile withers away I'll start stocking up more bullets for my gun.

You can actually start successfully making Scorpion arrows around 50-51 woodworking. Scorpions become "trivial" at 59 Woodworking, which means you won't receive skillups from them any more at that point. Also, don't anticipate lots of HQ synths of Scorpion arrows with only 59 skill, as it seems with 59 skill and favorable conditions, getting HQ synth will happened maybe once or twice per 12 synths.

As far as cash, leveling ranger takes a lot of gil if you strive to be well-equipped. It is possible to start this job right after level 30, but expect to take breaks from leveling to raise funds for arrow and new equipment. If you really want to be the "ideal" ranger, you'll want Leaping Boots (lv7) and an Emperor's Hairpin (lv24) for the bonus AGI. These both go for around 250,000 G on Bismarck, but would last you until AF. These aren't required by any means, but in a way a Ranger's effectiveness is highly based on his gear and while you can still be good without top-of-the-line equipment, you could always be better. The ranger in my set was a level 62 Samurai before even starting ranger, which ment he had a good amount of gear he sold to fund ranger. This made leveling his ranger extremely fast (I was level 53 and he was level 32 Ranger when we decided to form a set and he caught up with me in about 10 days).

Basically what it comes down to is how you want to play. If you'd rather hoard gil as another job for a while before making a huge level push with ranger, it might be best to level another job beforehand, such as Thief . If you don't mind taking breaks from leveling to get the gil you'll need for the next few levels, than you can probably jump right in.

I can suggest putting some money into woodworking though. A stack of scorpion arrows usually goes for around 1500-2000 G on Bismarck, but we can synth them for around 1000 G. Plus, sometimes the crafters have been lazy and Scorpion arrows are low in stock, making it difficult for our set to fight that day. The ingredients will almost always be there though, which means supply will almost never be an issue.
