Hello, Just hit level 55 the other day on my Rng and i realized i was a couple million short for that Eurytos' bow. After staring at that 4mill bow for a couple minutes, i started to ask a few high levels whats there weapon of choice. Most of them don't have eurytos thank god. but they do use a type of xbow (forgot the name, but it was rar/ex) at times and they say its better to have both bow and xbow skills leveled up to the max to be prepared for different situations. Upon hearing this, I realized that my xbow skill is only at mid 50s... so heres my question.. at level 55, how long would it take for me to max my xbow to 178? i mean.. is it faster if i killed higher leveled mobs? Does it have to con as "easy prey" for my skills to go up? whats the most efficent way for this slacker ranger to catch up to yall? hehe. thanks. ^^ btw, if you got 3 million g. laying around, and don't know what to do w/ it, i will not hesitate to sacrifice my moghouse's delivery box for it.. ... /sigh.

It's Othinus' Bow. You get it from Gobbie NM in Gustav. Wyvernpoacher Drachlox or something... I posted in another thread that this xbow is very nice and many people use it over Euro but they kinda just laughed at me and said "No, It doesnt kick Eurytos ass"

    Whatever, i have mine waiting for my RNG at 67 ^_^ Haha, it's really too late to tell you you should have kept up your marksmanship too... but fastest way to skill up marksmanship is to fight things near that Lv cap skill. For example since you're 50, you could probably level it up in Qufim for a while, then maybe take it to the next spot you normally level. Bloody bolts are good for this so you dont have to rest that often. Soon I will have to skill up axe for my Francisca, cuz im an axe slacka! ; ;

When skilling i usually do Qufim > CN > Castle Oztroja, but that's just me :p

in my case, goobue gardeners in zitah were veeeery good at that lvl. go hunt goobues with some friends (not solo at that lvl, you'll get pwned), you won't be disappointed with the skillup speed.

        Orthinus' Bow rocks ass.

marksmanship is much easier to skill up than any normal weapon, as you gain skill like a beast most of the time. it's just finding areas to up it... i'd say join a skill up PT but you'll probably be too low level for that :/ depends where they go i guess

I think there is a chart that can tell you where to skillup but I heard it wasn't very accurate and I'm to hungover to find it... sorry... not much help...

First of all put "Skill up party - Yes, Please" in your search comment. Maybe even throw the level in there so your not going somewhere out of your league.

I don't remember exactly, but I think around lv100 many people skill on the lost souls at the eldieme entrances, then move to Crawlers nest for quite some time, then goto kuftal tunnel.

And also, Othinus' Bow is quite the weapon. Acid bolts stack with Dia, and holy/darksteel bolts put out the damage like crazy.
In fact, I'm probably going /NIN now because I have to hold back much much more, and berserk is absolutely worthless because I pull hate so fast. Average berserked shot is anywhere from 200-220 damage. It's pretty crazy

Good luck, and just tough it out. Marksmanship levels very quickly (unlike GSW  )

Crappy parties and Maat win. Now a full-time Fisherman. Fishing: 50.1

When i started ranger, i had never used a bow with my warrior, ever. So with the bow sitting at 0, i took my bow and my level 30 war and started killing near the top of east saru, then tharongi, then the maze and then bubu. That got to to about what it would be for a level 20, so I would assume you could just keep moving into slightly tougher areas. I did notice that if i was fighting something way above my bow level, i didnt get much of a skill increase at all, so better to stay closer to the bow level. I need to do my xbow too .

hmmm when i was leveling in the crawlers nest this japanese play named morrison was party with me. he was a ranger as well maybe the best ive ever seen. He was insanely rich ( he may have purchased all the stuff off a website). He had the strider boots, 2 hawkers knives +1, emporers hairpin. ANY WAY this guy was amazing. He was switching weapons like mad.. he was using guns,Xbows, and regular bow. His Crossbow was doing amazing damage and used it to debuff as well. In some instances he dispelled the crawlers defence buff with the arrows. This guy was great to party with, but was pretty stuck up... anyway theres the story.

Would it be a really bad move if I stuck to marksminship for a ranger career? Since I be using guns 50+ anyhow.

                    I think so...

You may think that you know how expensive being a gun RNG is.. but look at it this way I am not a poor ranger.. I have pretty good equipment. I just spent 4 million gil on a bow

and I am telling you that it is a waste of gil to go guns all the way
:p . On my server silver bullets run about 10k per stack, and with Eurytos bow I do about the same damage as someone using the best gun and silver bullets (Musketeer's +2.. that person being me I guess lol) I barely notice a difference.

In fact I think that probobly the best damage I have done is with arbalest +1 and acid/darksteel bolts. But this too gets expensive, I suggest getting a gun cause it is fun. But work on your bow too cause if you realize that it is too expensive it will be a pain to lvl up bow.

Speaking of skill up in general. Dont forget to skill up Axe if you plan on using rare/ex Franncisca....

                        No bow?

mmm so from what I am hearing, as a ranger I will be most likely going to be using an xbow or a gun at higher levels? or can I take a bow all the way up?

For this answer, I'll refer you to my thread:

                            http://ffxi.cogn.net/forums/showthre...threadid=32841

Also don't forget when skilling up a weapon ( in this case a ranged weapon ), wear all the +ranged accuracy gear you can, and if you want to take it even further, wear all the -ranged attack gear you can. I believe that your skillup is rated based on your level vs the mob's level, but also ranged attack is taken into consideration. So you wanna hit as often, and not as hard.
