  • Choice of subjob for farming?

I've read quite a bit on these forums, and see a lot of the NIN vs. WAR for EXP parties, but I haven't really seen much discussion between subjob choices for farming. I understand that TH1 is very appealing, but I'm considering RDM or WHM instead, due to the fact that even with the limited MP and spells, I am usually able to heal most of my life bar with the MP. This would seem to nearly double my active time in farming (I'd rest one time as a RNG/(RDM or WHM) while two times as a RNG/THF) and add some support spells.

Any suggestions or insight into these choices? Thanks.

Thief. The whole point of farming is to get the drops. WHM or RDM may be...ok at low levels, but once you get a bit higher up, you can kill a lot of enemies quick enough w/out taking much damage. I can usually kill easy prey Goobbues and take only 50-100 dmg. Barrage and weapon skills really help you to end the battles quickly.

And I just realized that curing won't double your active farming time; it just halves your resting time. *smacks self*

      Thanks for the reply.

I'w tried the /whm farming a couple of times and while it as u say reduce the time spend healing it atleast doubles the time u need to farm to get the same amount of drops without /thf (atleast this is the case with the low lvl drops like silk and such)

I haven't leveled ranger yet myself, but a friend of mine used this method for a while while farming. He went as rng/thf for TH1 but also wanted to reduce downtime. If you level Marksmanship even just a bit (the lv1 bolts are inexpensive), you won't have much trouble hitting monsters you'd normally expect to farm. If you bring along a fairly cheap crossbow and some Bloody Bolts (lv25) which drain HP. Just farm with your normal weapons and when you get low on HPs, switch to the crossbow and Bloody Bolts, fire off a few shots, and you should be mostly healed. There's no reason to farm with /thf unless you're level 30+, so you should be able to use these bolts before it's an issue.

I'm not sure how much the Bloody Bolts cost, but it may end up the cost of the bolts is not worth the reduced downtime. I'm not sure, since I've never farmed as rng/thf myself. It's something worthwhile to check out though.

I think that bloody bolts were like 2k per stack on the market? Might be able to make them for 1200??

I can't remember, but the low level bolts are easy to make if you can find the bolt heads for the bolts you want.
