I planned on lvling NIN and RNG as soon as I get to lvl 30 but one of my RNGs friends told me that I should wait ontill i bring my THF up to lvl 45 and then farm for a few weeks to be able to afford RNG... is this the best way about going about starting ranger or is there a better way

Just play and farm as you go. It's not really that big of a deal, you just want decent gear (+1 bows, rings) starting at 16 (granted, the hunters longbow is a fine weapon if you get it at 12 too), and enough cash handy for arrows and food.
The super expensive gear is nice, but dosen't really have as much of a noticeable effect as the basics. On the other hand, if you want to get thf up to 45 for TH2, more power to you.

Go to 45 man, I never, ever regreted going to 45 for TH2. Trust me you won't either. If you farm at all. It will also give you a lot of experience which will make you a better ranger. And money affects ranger more and more the higher you get You miss out on tons of ranged accuracy/ranged attack/agl if you're poor. People always say these 200k gil equipment isn't so great, etc, etc. But they're completely wrong, they just don't want to work for it. People say, what does +2 agl matter to me anyways? What does +3 ratk matter? Well if you say that for every slot, you're looking at losing out on +9-12 agl +5-20 racc and +10-15 ratk, that's a big difference. But I think the most important thing for ranger in terms of equipment is get the best +1 bow you can get and use the best arrows you can get. Those 2 things will affect things more than anything. Oh and atleast dual weld archer's knives, that should help a lot.

If you take THF to 45, you might as well to it to 50 so you can go coffer hunting with Invisible/Sneak.Originally posted by Luminaire
Fact - WAR has a ton of potential, the only limits on the job are the player

By not doing thief, you possibly miss out on..
Emp hairpin +3 agi
Leaping boots +3 agi (And the bastokan ones are better half the time anyways)
Mage Cuffs +2 agi (I have yet to see these on bahamut!)
Everything else is obtainable with regular amounts of farming. (Including +1 gear, hawkers, etc). Will it make you better? Yeah, probably. But you won't be able to tell a difference without a parser.

Just farm as you go. You'll find yourself getting into a regular pattern. Get a few levels .... farm a bit get a few levels farm a bit.... etc. I dont understand on how not having TH2 makes you not able to get a hairpin or leaping boots. These are nice items to have if you take the time to camp them but they arent that critical to have there are other items that boost agi a bit and can get you by until you have the time/gil to get them.Rank - 4 RNG-49 WHM-40 NIN-26 RDM-22 SMN-20 THF-15 WAR-10 BLM-5
