I would not recommend it. There are really no bonuses that it adds compared to other jobs.

Read the Ranger FAQ although it is really long it is pretty helpful.

I suggest that you sub NIN or WAR....

depends on how you want to play

If you like accuracy then go with NIN

if you like hitting for huge numbers go with WAR

neither is really better or worse I always go with /NIN because I am just a stickler for accuracy and my damage is good enough that I actually make use of my shihei =P.

oh and then there is /SAM but dont worry that isn't till 60 that it becomes a good option. And even then I know alot of people that would rather go /NIN or /WAR anyways.

Good for farming yes... but TH is never an excuse to sub it in a party...

Oh and personally you can sub /NIN or /WAR...

However since you are an Elf and already are going to be on the more... less acc more power side of things. I suggest you just go all out and go /WAR you might not hit nearly as much as mithra /NINs but when you do it will be for alot more.

It is my personal opinions that you should work on your strengths more then your weaknesses (for the same reason that PLD/DRKs and DRK/PLDs dont work).

I suggest maybe you level both anyways though I sub war alot. And always sub war in BCNM 40 since more then likely you will be tanking and the extra defense/damage is better then Utsusemi (since mandras hit so often, and you shouldn't need the +Ranged Accuracy either cause they are so easy to hit.

I would like some of the RNG/THFs to come in here and tell us why they do sub it?

Consequently I think I see them alot on the "I am poor, tell me how to make gil" threads.

Do you really sub it for TH? In an xp party? There is a time to farm and then there is a time to get xp... at least that is how I think of it.

And I would never invite a RNG/THF or WAR/WHM, or DRK, RNG, SAM, DRG, WAR, /RDM.

You just aren't maximizing your output.. and when I have to pay gil for each arrow I shoot... it is kind of nice to have a good party.

A Gil Party or Treasure Party it's a good one to invite them into. Funny thing that surprises me so much is that so many of these MMORPG players don't seem to comprehend a reason to form a party to make money, it's one of the best ways I've ever had done before to make money. Since it's a party effort you hardly have to work that hard to make what you need either.

All you do is each member comes with a fairly empty inventory, each designates what drops they want from an area. Then in the same zone everyone just splits up and starts hacking away at anything that drops the items that each party member wants. The time it takes to get the items is drastically cut down everyone getts what they need out of the party and usually making 10k - 30k will only take 30 min. to 1 hr.

To clarify this is a lv. 30 party, getting higher up you can make more a lot easier.

at level 30 you get your 2nd accuracy bonus and some more good abilities with war.... though its not significantly better until you start hitting more often.

Moral: Don't sub thief unless you're farming or goofing around.

there is another reason thf sub would be acceptable for rng.

when pulling very fast mobs in places like cape terrigan. (velociraptors and such)
if your rng is 50+, then having flee makes all the difference for long pulls.

Still, in those situations, one could probably pull well with blink for the most part and still get all the bonus's of /nin sub.
But thf sub is not completely gimped when using it for flee.

Flee is not a reason to sub thf in parties. You can sub Nin for utsusemi for much better results on pulling, and Nin has something else to contribute to a party while /thf does not.

i am level 43 ranger / 16 ninja

once i hit 50 im going to level my thief to 25 and my ninja to around 30



thief mainly for flee and for th when i farm elementals

I've had two difference answers on this, but this is kind of the topic I was looking for. Does SA or TA work with Eagle Eye? I'm guessing the answer is no, but maybe I'm wrong? Because that would be some uber ebil damage.

SA and TA do not work on ranged attacks.
