  • Approximate Cost for 1-30

    Hey everyone~
I know all you are probably sick of threads like this, but I need some first-hand experience with leveling ranger to answer a few question.

First, I want to take ranger 30. Why? Fun, I guess. That and farming (farming with a blm sucks...-ga spells only get you so far). With that said, I intend to be the best rgn I can be (within reason...I don't intend on buying leaping boots / hairpin unless I manage to get the buggers to drop). I'm a tarutaru, and money isn't *that much* of an issue. That being said:

How much gil does it take to go from 1-30?
When are the major upgrades (I can check on the AH, obviously, but knowing when to switch bows will save me from having to look on the whole list)?

Assume buying all the best bows when they're available, best gear possible, and using the best arrows possible. Also assume I'll be eating meat mithkabobs
    For The Horde!!
Current Gil total spent on gear:
    3,235,000
    Current Gil Value of gear:
    1,151,000

Unless you're leveling for the widescan, I'd almost say don't go with ranger for farming. We can blow up really weak stuff pretty quick, but when it really gets down to it, I've noticed that mages have better defense. Anything even close to easy causes excessive downtime. (I can do 2 tigers in batallia safely at 40) :/

That being said.. I'll break this down more at the bottom of my post. You've got standard armor costs, because they're really nonissue for ranger. You'll go full suit of leather, bronze scale, lizard, and then I skipped it until centurion, but you could also go with brass scale too.

I would figure 2k, 4k, 6k and maybe 10k for a suit if you go for that. So I guess 22k in total for armor.

Rings. I wouldn't worry about them until 16. Then you'll want bone +1. and switch to beetle+1 as soon as availible. I hear these are dirt cheap on bahamut, but I would guess 5k and maybe 8k for the sets of +1 rings respectively. So 13k-ish for the rings.

Bows.. I wouldn't worry about getting +1 bows until either a powerbow+1, or a hunters longbow (level 12). The amount of time you will use the lower level bows does not justify the added cost. Hunters is about 20k on my server, power+1 is about 25k, and will take you to 30. Personally I would just wait for the power+1. So I'm going to figure 28k for bows (The other ones are really negligable).

Belt is your choice until 30. Back item should be a nomads mantle at 24.. I can't remember the cost for this but I think it was about 20k.

I would recommend getting the sandorian conquest headband at level 10. It's +1 agi and costs about 1k. Beestinger is a nice little toy too, I think that goes for 5k on my server... at least until you can get a archers knife around 28. The latter there goes for about 8k.

Earrings... I personally wouldn't worry about (I didn't use any until drones at 35). But go with whatever you want. +evasion might help, since you're mostly worthless in melee.

I think that covers most of the nonexpendable items.

    Armor 22k
    Rings 13k
    Mantle 20k
    Bows 28k
    Minimal weapons - 13k
    Headband 1k

Fo at total of something to the extent of 100k in gear over the course of 30 levels. This really dosen't count though, because you can sell it back at near no loss normally.

Next.. expendables. Assuming that you go with the best arrows availible (Which you should be), I'm going to guess maybe 10k in arrows up until level 15. (Wood, bone and iron respectively).

If you're really serious, at 15 you'll switch to fang arrows, which are about 1.5k per stack. These are useable until the advent of horn arrows at 29. Horn arrows are -slightly- cheaper on my server, but not so much so. From 15-30 I will guess about 50k in ammo. This is being conservative, and is assuming you'll get into some sucky groups. If you don't, well then it's signifcantly cheaper. Food.. I'm not even sure where to try and guess this. Figure 2.5k per 6 hours with meat mithkabobs.

Expendables - 60k in ammo. 20k in food. If you want to level marksmanship as well, then add another 30k in ammo.

All told, 180ish k, probably 100ish of which you will get back. Like I say, this is being conservative with groups, and is assuming you don't go for any heavy cost pieces.

    Edit:
    Bow levels.
    Shortbow - 1
    Longbow - 7
    R. Archers longbow 10
    Hunters longbow 12
    Power bow+1 16

generally id say about 80k for arrows 1-30
bows would go like longbow +1 then hunters longbow then powerbow+1 im on midgard so last i remember longbow+1 was atleast 12k hunters was 15k and powerbow was 25k

armor i went from crap > leather > scale > steam scale big jump yup

for rings i didnt even bother with bone i waited till my beetle +1
      those should cost abit

      u wear ranger necklace

id say dont waste 7k on the beestinger just use any good ol melee weapon, i preferred my free light axe from a quest

ranger is really a fun job to be, of course as a taru might be a bit tougher since your HP is alot lowerthan mine (elv). You're gonna tank alot if ur the same type of ranger i am :p js keep blasting it till it dies

Yes it is dangerous in parties but guess what faster kills = faster exp

I just hit level 30 last night having a blast with barrage now

hit me up on midgaard if u need anything atrapos

        All costs in Valefor gil:

        Armor:
Lvl1-7: I used my fisherman's gear. But in effect, no cost.
Lvl7-10: Leather, appx. Could wear my Leaping Boots (dropped). (3k)
Lvl10-17: Scale body and legs, Ryl Footmans headband and gloves. (7k)
Lvl17-26(Current): Lizard body and legs, still wearing gloves and headband. (4k)

        Neck:
        Lvl1-7: Nothing.
        Lvl7-14: Wing Pendant (Quest item)
        Lvl14-26: Ranger Necklace

        Rings:
        Lvl1-14: San d'Orian Ring
Lvl14-16: Sandy Ring, Tourmaline Ring (2k)
        Lvl16-21: 2x Bone Ring +1 (4k)
        Lvl21-26: 2x Beetle Ring +1 (4k)

        Earrings:
        Lvl1-10: Nothing
Lvl10-26: Amber Earring, Shell Earring (2.5k)

        Main:
        Lvl1-7: Bronze Axe +1 (4k)
        Lvl7-26: Beestinger (5k)

        Ranged:
        Lvl1-5: Shortbow +1 (3k)
        Lvl5-12: Longbow +1 (20k)
        Lvl12-16: Hunter's Longbow (15k)
        Lvl16-26: Power Bow +1 (20k)

        Ammo:
        Lvl1-7: Wooden Arrows, 5 stacks? (1.5k)
        Lvl7-14: Bone Arrows, 8 stacks? (5k - guessing)
        Lvl14-26: Beetle Arrows, ??? stacks @900/ea. (12-15k)

That's about what I've put into the job and you'll obviously get most if not all (or more) of your gear investment back. Arrows are a sink and food is too (nod to the above poster), but I cook my kabobs (farmed meat, so a stack usually costs me 600/stack).
        32/War, 54/SAM, 25/Thf, 34/Rng
        37/Cooking, 22/Fishing
