  • New Ranger Here

    Hi

    This is my final push in FFXI; if I don't enjoy Ranger, I'm done. Anywho, I just have a few quick questions, and then you folks can go on your way:

    1.) Woodworking; my skill: Zero. Does it matter? The only reason why I would want to level it would be for arrows, but doing the math out, there doesn't seem to be any reason to - there's virtually no profit, only availability, but arrows seem to be in stock a good percentage of the time. Should I level it anyway? Will I be kicking myself later on?

    2.) Guns. Should I care? I've never, ever partied with a Ranger with a gun, though I did see one Ranger use one while farming Rams in Konschtat. One in over 40 days playtime. He was almost one shotting Tremors, and he was /anon and naked. Anywho, will I be kicking myself later on for not leveling the skill?

    3.) Come level 55, when the xp starts to climb, how many stacks of arrows do you go through to level? Come 60+?

    I think that is it. Thanks in advance.

    1) WW is nice particularly with furniture being useful now as well.. but it really isn't a necessity. As long as you have some sort of consistant income, you're sitting pretty. I'm sure as you know, any high level tradeskill can pull decent money.

    2) Gun from a pure damage standpoint (ratio) rock after 51. (Incidentally, they rock your bank account too). Use crossbows to keep your skill up. It dosen't take much time to cap at all, and all bow/marksman WS's are interchangeable from what I've seen. (No messing with skillchain to skill it up).

    3) No clue on that, but I can tell it progresses from dirt cheap up to about 10 to maybe 15k a level around 40ish.

      I've been waffling on the marksmanship front. Right now I'm looking at RNG to sub to SAM, but if I like the job, who knows if I wont keep it as my main? I guess it wouldn't hurt anything but my bank account and my inventory space to level it...

        Thanks for the responses.

        Another quick question: How do you use quivers? I see them for sale in AH, either singles or stacks, but I don't really know what to do/use them.

        Thanks.

          Quiver = condensed arrows/bolts

          Stackable up to 12, when you click on one, it "casts" for a short period or so, then breaks open into 99 of the respective ammo.

            Okay, so when you buy say, one quiver of horn arrows from the ah, it's basically 99 horn arrows?

            So, a stack of horn quivers is technically 1188 arrows?

              Bingo. A good number of the really good arrows you'll use though aren't quiverable. (Fang, Scorpion and everything above it.) Bastiches.

                Well, at least my toon has fifty slots; that's still pretty stupid. I guess I'll be carrying around 10 stacks of scorps and a few quivers of iron.
