Low Level RNG Advice

I just completed the RNG Quest about 2 days ago. I am a WHM/SMN as you can see but I thought it would be nice to try a warrior style character for a while and see how things go and also there is no RNG in my LS so I thought what the heck.

I got to lvl 7 relatively easy by just running around and shooting rabbits and worms and bats(night time) in ronafure. But now the XP from these will be pretty low. Should I go to La Theine and try Rock Eaters? If things get out of hand I can always back off and heal and resume the fight, I hear that worms are the best solo prey for RNG.

I bought a Longbow +1 after reading this forum (wow what a big difference!) I bought a set of leather armor as it seemed all I could get for now. Is there anything else I am missing for this level? I have now switched to bone arrows. I have also used a light crossbow some to build up marksmanship skill.

Any other advice would be appreciated. Right now I subbed war but I plan to try nin and sam soon. There seems to be some controversy over these 3 subs after I have read several posts here. Maybe over time I can report back my findings on the 3

Good luck. I found that leveling to about 13 was actually better solo rather than grouping. I could take out 2-3, 72-100XP mobs before resting. Worms are ideal but your damage should be able to take out most rabbits and plants pretty well too. Right now you should go to the lake in La Theine and kill worms. Once you get to about 10-11 start taking on rabbits and plants as well. Make sure you get a Hunter's Longbow @ 12 because it is a HUGE improvment. You can then bring yourself up to 13 and maybe 14 which is then a good time to head to Valkurm Dunes or Korrolok tunnel near Bastok for some higher level worms. In the tunnel, group with some BLMs and WHMs and lay waste to worms at range.

Solo worms untill 13, then head to dunes/korokola/shakrami. Shakrami is good if you want to continue to solo worms, but it is a little tricky and takes more practice to solo ones there than latheine/highlands. Like said before, pick up a Hunters Longbow at 12, and the +1 version of the lvl 16 longbow. I did 14-19 with my RNG in valk in one day, luckly i got invited to very good groups. From what i have heard, Korokolla is good for soloing 18-21, though i completely skipped this and went to quifim, so i dont know.

You can easily solo up to lvl 24 or so, then you're forced to head over to Kazham, but I've found lvling in Kazham to be pretty painless.

As said, just solo until lvl 13 or so, then head to Shakrami maze. If you can find a good group, or perhaps another lonely black mage, go ahead and team up (rng+blm is a nice duo until 15 or so, since you will still get 200 xp per fight). I was able to get to 16 in the maze painlessly, but then I went to Valkurm to lvl. I got lucky though...if you get fed up with Valkurm, just go to Korroloka and solo the worms in there. By lvl 20, you can easily solo worms in Qufim. They should be a cake walk for you. The xp may start slowing down at lvl 23, since you're only fighting tough and a few vt, but you should be able to get up to a third xp chain.

But you didn't really ask for all that. As for your latest question, no, there is no +1 version of the Hunter's Longbow. If you're feeling lucky, go hunt Juu Duzu the Whirlwind in Giddeus. I fought him about 11 times and never got the bow, so it might be easier just to buy it from the AH. It should only be 15-20k on most servers.

Yeah the hunters bow was going for 18k when I checked last night which is just barely more than I payed for my +1 longbow. I'll just buy it at the AH when I am lvl 12 I completed the nin quest last night with some LS members so I only had time to get to lvl 8 rng last night. Now I can work on nin for sub tonight :D


I forgot to pick up the sam quest in Norg when I was there last night. Oh well maybe this weekend I can do the quest with LS members again.

I partied with a whm at about 13 and took on korroka tunnel w/o a problem til about 21 I think, imo thats best place to try if you got a whm friend, I was having horrible parties at valkurm so this was a godsend too ^^ but then again when i was doing this there was rarly anyone else there, I think the word has gotten out and it is somewhat crowded down there sometimes, If you can manage it tho, get a 25+ whm to escort you to the otherside and kill the worms over there, there is never anyone but marrion hunters there on my server.
Anyways have fun with Ranger, its a great class, I just got my af armor and couldn't be happier ^^

also when u get to qufim thre is more worms for the old distance/silence trick, and if ur still sub war u can provoke them and killem pretty fast since they'll ignore the melee's so long as they're silenced, fairly standard stuff, just watch b/c worms are agro there.

It's very unreliable to silence stuff with a whm sub. You're much better off partnering with a mage and having them do the dirtywork (err.. silenceing).

Yeah I finally got to La Theine Last night and was hunting rock eaters really easy for 72 - 140 xp each. I even got a couple of Chains...I can see why you can solo fairly easy....my problem was competing with all the new ps 2 players...they kept taking my worms before I could shoot them


I also got my new nin sub leveled up :D The dex and agi bonuses really help

hi guys, i just got ranger last night too only lvl 7 at the moment. long bow +1 that much beter then long bow? is it worth the price difference?

also whats the better sub thf or nin?

Isn't silence a lvl 15 spell anyway? And yeah, a mage sub is not good for enfeebling an IT or VT.

Rice: You are just in the low levels, and the next bow comes at lvl 16 (or 12 if you go for Hunter's Longbow). I personally just went the regular Longbow, mainly because I couldn't find the +1. But I never had any trouble, and I'm Elvaan.

Just like the DEX and AGI bonuses from any melee-job at that level.
