How do quivers work?

I've seen different quivers in the AH, for example Rotten Quiver. Now I was wondering if I need to buy a quiver, and how they work. Up to now I simply put a stack of 99 arrows in my ammo slot, and that seemed to work fine without a quiver. What would be the advantage of using one?

Quivers carry most type of arrows you'd use, and are stackable up to 12. So you can carry 1188 arrows in one stack, instead of useing 12 inventory spaces.

The downside is, you need to click the quiver to "activate" it and break it into 99 arrows. This takes about 2-3 seconds, and can be interrupted.
