Hi I just got ranger [woo me], although I wasnt expecting to play this job ever! For some reason I just got a sudden interest for it and now I want to make it my main. Mainly I want to use guns, but would it be wise to invest in crossbows now or should I just use bows until level x? Also, off topic a bit, what would be an awesome sub for RNG when grouping for xp? And would it be worthwhile to invest in the tradeskill that makes bullets?

First of all, make sure you check out the FAQ at the top of this forum. It has quite a bit of answers, especially for your subjob question.
Second of all, if you're planning to use guns (which you won't use till later levels), then yes, make sure to lvl your marksmenship with crossbows. You should probably use longbows as your main weapon, but lvl your crossbow on the side. Either alert your pt that you will be lvling crossbow for a few battles, or just fight a couple mobs solo with it.
Hope that helps a bit, and welcome to the ranger life. I've yet to meet any ranger who doesn't enjoy playing it, even with the huge costs.
