Other subs for ranger..

I've heard from other rangers and people who are going to be ranger that dark knight works well as a sub lvl 60+. Is this true?
I think it is a possibility because of souleater and last resort but im not sure if it is melee only or for both. Plz clarify this for me

Well I've heard Thief is a really good subjob since it will help alleviate some of the expenses since you can steal. I don't play the game so I don't know, just going by what I've heard.

I've never seen a Ranger without Ninja, Warrior or Thief as his subjob.

Basically, anything that makes you hit harder (WAR, SAM, ETC.) or more often (NIN, THF) is a good sub.


For my budget-minded self, I would probably go THF or NIN. NIN would probably be better due to dual-wielding archer's daggers for the accuracy boost, but I like THF best for the extra cash. I can see how the arguement for better damage is a good one, but I always figure that the least damaging attack is a miss.

On a related note, I take the biggest, meanest longbow I can because it consumes fewer arrows (plus big damage numbers look pretty).

A THF adds nothing more than a WAR in ranged accuracy. I believe the difference in AGI is something 1 or 2 points at 75. Other than for gil farming purposes, THF is a horrible sub for Ranger. You can get away with it pre-30, but there's no excuse not to either have /nin or /war afterwards.

WHM for solo'ing is a good choice, as is THF for farming...but otherwise, i think WAR and NIN are the most viable subs for PT/XP play, with SAM becoming viable after 60 (though i have no personal experience regarding that choice...)

i haven't played RNG, but this is what i've gathered from partying with them.

Currently I am a level 32 ranger with only 10 ninja and i have great accuracy with dual archer knives. I think that elvaan would be better off with this sub job because of the 2 archers that could be equiped. Mithra or Taru could be more flexable because of their natural agi. But elvaan with ninja sub owns, atleast I like it. But id still like to know if any has tried drk as a sub.:p

i saw a ranger with a rdm thief the other day like 66rmg/33rdm is that any good?? or was she just doing it for cure purposes maybe

The Sub job does make alot of difference and unlike popular belief, its not opinion. There is a right and a wrong sub. Sure you can play whatever you want but that doesnt make it good.


Party / XP

War - DMG
Nin - 2 Archers Knives (Accuracy)
Sam (Not till after 60) - TP
Drk - DMG (Not sure about this one exactly)


Farming

THF - Gill/Treasure Finding abilities
RDM/WHM - Healing


It is not okay to group with the farming subs, The agi diff from Thf - War is like 2 points. However since no thf ability assist Ranger dmg it should not be used without a doubt during a XP/Party. I grouped with 3 rangers getting my NIN sub to 20-25 on saturday and trying to explain this to one of them said its all opinion, but the fact is it isnt, look at the stats and abilites and its just obvious.

Edit - One of the lowbie rangers also said he planned on subing monk.

Monk is NOT a good ranger sub, why would a melee powerhouse be good for a range bassed class, non of their abilites drag over to range as said in the info post. Monk shouldnt even be a option. Thats almost as ridiculus as subbing dragoon.

This is kind of off topic but why wouldn't you level Ninja just TWO more levels for Utsusemi?? 10-12 would take you an hour at most. ...

well, maybe for solo they did that (bind/gravity/sleep n' shoot arrows)

/nin for dual archers knives seems common

/sam at post 60 is very strong

a bit off topic, but sam/rng is a very powerful combination
